Actually it's even worse since you have to sacrifice 1 of the live traitors in the research project too and they take up scarce prison space in the meantime. You get infamy back sure but I think I'd rather have the tokens.

IIRC you can get the research topic of traitor muties from other sources, so having them live is not necessary. It's the one called "Mutant origins" I think. It also introduces stats for all other mutie types.

Why aren't you using your belt slots?
I am. There is a lite in it, and a place for a weapon switch. Thats it. Thats like the first time I had a pirate armor on since I got barb shield gear.

Dont think so. Every melee weapon trains melee and reactions. Id rather melee than sit around and hope not to get a double barreled blast to the face and die cause I have 20 armor and 0 evasion.

To prevent you from making a viable economy for a long time, duh.

Cause Savage hits morale harder. And barb armor is already made and Savage is better than naked...

why are your units slightly lit?
Good question. Ive seen it happen with barb armor too but less illumination. Lites on the belt? Gotta check.


Question: is there a way to boost the number of brains or am I stuck with ~16 for the rest of the game?

This time it's the exception. Also, I think I'll take some notes from your lp regarding stuff such as outfits rather than the stuff said in the Piratez forums, as you have hands-on experience in comparison. For my future playthrough.

You only pay the 200k upfront, thats it.

The few dollaros you get from infamy that's not eaten by scientists are meant to be used to buy stuff, assuming you cannot get enough by pirating. Later on you will be able to produce stuff of high quality that will quickly turn end-of-the-month pay redundant. As for scientists, there are research topics that unlock buildings that let you have more scientists, but the game forces you to prioritize, so you'll have to eventually turn your main base into a research one, and have a secondary base for the same thing, if only to avoid the game taking forever to complete.

Lastly, free tip: Stuff researched across labs from different bases don't stack, so don't try to have the same thing researched twice as it will do nothing. Also, try adding 2 scientists at least per research than just one. Some research topics take tons of time to unlock, while others take so little they're unlocked automatically even by having 0 scientists working on it (ie: Newspaper stuff, special messages). So try having some unused research stuff just in case.

I looked up the formula and reactions happen when our effective reaction, which is
eff react = reaction * tu percentage
is below the enemies
So at the begining of a turn we have 100 eff react, but after spending half our TU, we have 50 eff react, and so on

Note that you're not meant to capture many people in a Terror Mission/Progrom. Instead, kill as many as you can while capturing VIPs and such, so that the others lose morale and surrender.

That does happen, so watch out.

Remember that Gals don't like being shot and freaks have uneven stats, including Bravery. Also, the white SMG that sometimes enemies carry set targets on fire, a great way to destroy morale even if little damage is taken.

I also was ronk on the Brainers upkeep, their research infamy is not enough to cover upkeep. Our upkeep gets compensated by mission scores, which gain infamy. I didnt realize that.

Poison knife jumps right to the top of 1H melee picks because it also has x1 toStun and halves the enemy armor. Without even considering resists.
Its within 20% range so even a meager 80% resist vs cutting makes it our best weapon for stun-able targets.

0.5 to pierce/concussive dmg is a monster resist. A gal in chainmail can tank 120 max pierce dmg (the assault mg is 35 mean, 70 max) without a scratch if shot from the front... It feels very exploity... The AI doesnt handle it very well...

Cause right now I have a mission in the cold that I reloaded cause cold damage... But also used sandbags to fuck with the AI.
The question is: should I abort or use the sandbags to win?

Harpoons are better used as ranged capture tools with the Daze ammo, which you should have a bunch.

They are expensive and I dont know what they do, and frankly I dont care...

Regular expedition "vehicle" works for enemy bases, as these are stationary and require all the guns you have. The other type of Expedition sounds interesting, but never tried it. Didn't have these when I played the game.

Ambo is back, proper like at the same time as a mission

Some advice: Fear not, they shall come to you, soon...

Slave AIs are very useful so hold on these. Small engines are valuable and easy to acquire.
Also, I meant the stuff from the Codex like the rocket launcher.

Animals are usually not worth capturing with some exceptions, and so do enemies in progroms, as you want them to break and stunning them doesn't affect their morale (nor yours, so be careful with the combat stress).

I didn't expect you would use these sandbags straight, I thought they were meant to be deployed or something. In any case, a honorable player wouldn't abuse this trick, as it's scummy and mean... But you're playing as a pirate, playing fair is for idiots!

Either way, it wont' work against more advanced weapons anyway. Or melee monsters.

Its your fault that all spider hunts are all trivial now. They cant path through blocked doors and cant open them. And its your fault that I know this :> Otherwise I would have been at least a bit scared camping in the bus...

This is great tip. I didnt think about reaction fire.
And I still cant act on it. If a gal has 2 hands free, she'll use a hunting rifle or battle rifle, both having unlimited range and very high accuracy. While the bow requires grinding throwing, which I'm probably not gonna do...
Fire and poison arrows dont seem to work combat bow though, which sucks.

You pretty much HAVE to use the tech viewer at higher difficulty levels though, it's your call. Let us see how far you can go. You should be able to unlock Chateau early at least.

Also, shame on the combat bow not working with arrow variants, makes it pointless.

Lastly, farms are weird: You should be warned once they are ready to be used, moment which you sell them to reuse the soil and get the harvest.

IMO it's not worth the tedium, as these missions take long and unless you don't mind repeating the same missions over and over, it will burn you out.

To be fair I wasn't aware it was this effective, I didn't get to try this, for not to mention that IIRC Chrysalids in vanilla xcom were capable of opening doors.

By the way, Cats' sense let you spot hidden units, making them good scouts and little else. Speaking of: It seems you're a long-time lurker or an alt, if you know about Black Cat's "thingies".

Oh, and cats are civies that will join you automatically if they survive, no idea why you stunned them (unless if it was to save them).
