Match day 4, second half

I hope photobucket bandwidth doesn't kick in 'cuz it's been bugging me just now :troll:

BB0709.jpg

As you may remember, the last half ended with a crazy 1:1 tie, which almost turned into 2:1 for the halflings.

BB0710.jpg

carron.jpg
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

BB0711.jpg

The rats get a perfect defence to further troll the treemen.

BB0714.jpg

No linemen are moved away from the line of scrimmage, however, but more players are set up aggressively on the left.

BB0715.jpg

Meanwhile, the halflings mob up the ball.

BB0716.jpg

And the trees begin a-hittin'. Star player gets trolled by loner lino into a push.

BB0718.jpg

And finally one of the linerats gets KO'd. One more got harmlessly dusted earlier. Armour value 7 is way too strong. But the lino still left coach Ramas a package, by trolling the treeman with both down, causing a turnover :troll:

boreale.jpg
Their fehth is their shield!

20090123105455-apothecary.jpg
Their armour is contempt!

20090123105523-idontknow.jpg
But brother captain, aren't they mutants and xenos?

boreale.jpg
Fehth is purest when it is unquestioning, bruva.

BB0719.jpg

Rat blitz incoming!

BB0720.jpg

SLAM!

BB0721.jpg

More skaven get into the vicinity as another halfling is taken out on a stretcher, and the turn ends.

BB0723.jpg

The halfling coach calls Zara out from the back to snatch the ball. Surely, a loner ball carrier will work properly this time around!

BB0724.jpg

Loner lino finally meets his end at the treeman's slam.

BB0725.jpg

While the downed treeman decides to take root after standing up :troll:

BB0727.jpg

And the turn ends again with a majestic display of doge.

BB0728.jpg

Jaedar begins by knocking out another halfman.

BB0730.jpg

And the air gets hot around Zara the Slayer as more skaven close in on her.

BB0731.jpg

Zara fails a blitz to get out of the stormvermin's grasp.

BB0733.jpg

It would appear the spectators are not very amused by the halfling coach's performance.

boreale.jpg
And neither is the camera operehtor.

BB0734.jpg

And the halflings suffer yet another turnover, after a failed 1d block on the stormvermin :killit:

BB0735.jpg

Meanwhile in ratville.

BB0737.jpg

Zara's about to eat a knuckle sandwich!

BB0738.jpg

And the ball gets scattered south.

BB0739.jpg

Another halfling is swatted like a fly, and the ball is pushed even further down.

BB0740.jpg

vroooooom

BB0741.jpg

dog.png

BB0742.jpg

A big hand means twice as big middle finger to show your opponents.

BB0745.jpg

Jaedar twirls his moustache wickedly, or at least, he'd do that if he had one (but he doesn't because he's a homo and a swede) and ends the turn.

BB0746.jpg

Incoming halfling bombardment!

BB0747.jpg

Yeah, right :hero:

BB0748.jpg

Another stunned lino.

BB0750.jpg

And a generic blitz by Zara that doesn't really accomplish anything.

Because why would you try to stab something dead instead, right.

BB0752.jpg

What will the skaven do?!

BB0753.jpg

How surprising.

BB0755.jpg

The fans start yawning in anticipation as they witness another failed blitz.

BB0756.jpg

The skaven team up in the middle to protect their carrier.

BB0757.jpg

Treeman blitz!

BB0758.jpg

Treeman KO's a rat during a blitz!

BB0759.jpg

Treeman...!

... dodges...? :hmmm:

:hero:

BB0762.jpg

Zara is wrestled down and dirty by a lino.

BB0763.jpg

BB0764.jpg

And it would appear the halflings are fairly helpless now.

BB0765.jpg

But wait, there's another bomb!

BB0766.jpg

Nope.

BB0769.jpg

Push on a wake-up blitz on a gutter runner.

BB0772.jpg

The turn moves again to the skaven.

BB0773.jpg

Beginning with another SLAM!

All the slammed halflings got only badly hurt, though. Boring.

BB0775.jpg

Halflings again.

boreale.jpg
Wehke me up when something happens.

Fortunately, the camera is focused on the action anyway, so Commander Boreale can enjoy a nap.

BB0776.jpg

A gutter runner gets stunned.

BB0777.jpg

Same with a lino.

BB0780.jpg

The halflings move 2 players up to try one last desperate action vs Jaedar's gutter runner. A third one also tried to get there, but, well,
dog.png

Wake up, commander! There's action to be had!

boreale.jpg
Where?

Northern quadrant, but they are on the move

BB0781.jpg

borealehappy.jpg
:flamesaw:

BB0783.jpg

A failed blitz doesn't accomplish anything, and two skaven players can only try to set up dodge traps around the two halflings!

BB0784.jpg

And a stormvermin fails a dodge to provide more security!

BB0785.jpg

Uh-oh...

BB0786.jpg

STOP BASHING AND GET ON WITH THE ACTION, FOOL

carron.jpg
FEWL!

BB0787.jpg

One halfling dodges out, blocking one assist for the runner carrier.

And the second one dodges-blitzes! :avatard:

borealehappy.jpg
:avatard:

BB0788.jpg

And manages all these 5 or something dodges.

Just to see a red skull on the blitz.

BB0789.jpg

And a ko to boot.

boreale.jpg
At least that was sort of entertaining.

BB0790.jpg

:kwanzania:

BB0791.jpg

The gutter runner moves through the finish line, then runs a full ring around a fellow stormvermin...

BB0792.jpg

And that's a score!

BB0795.jpg

The treemen look at one another in sadness, thinking how could this happen to them. Why did nothing work!

BB0796.png

Post-match stat screen.

And Commander Boreale's final thoughts:

boreale.jpg
The outcome was fairly predictable, the halflings couldn't possibly hope to stop the skaven gutter runners from scoring multiple, simultaneous and devastating defensive touchdowns. However, that doesn't quite explain why coach Ramas would use his inducements to get Zara the Slayer, whose Stab ability is very much made to go in and ravage flimsy av7 gutter runners and linemen. If you can't win, why not at least provide the enemeh with a parting gift and injure gutter runners (who are hard to pin down by regular blocks due to blodge, too) or guard linemen? Trying multiple times to use the loner star player (and, indeed, the only actual player) as a ball carrier was also rather questionable.

But this is not the last we see of the halflings. For the Secret Military Union will be facing them as well during the next match day.

boreale.jpg
Stay vigilant, bruvas!

Kinda annoyed by that. Zero stabs in 16 turns.
I kind of understand the logic behind Zara in Halfling team, she is a ST4 Blodger with 6 MA. Obviously 2D blocks are good, but stab offers a chance at no turn-over blocking. She's standing next to AV6 Guard Line-Rat at the start of turn 1, but chose to dodge out instead. She is so much better than that - seeing her being gang fouled by no less than 7 rats is ridiculous. The rats should be running away from her, not laughing at her face as she tries dodging out of their tackle zone repeatedly.

Seeing them equalize before half time was surprising though, but second half's usage of Zara as ball carrier isn't a surprising decision at all. I do not question it. She's ST4 Blodge, 6 MA, she can literally use the flings as cage edge and move out with 2D Pushes Blitz, or stab anyone that gets close to cage center.

Except he didn't stab. Let's block instead.
2D - Both Down- Both Down on Stormvermin. Reroll. Why?
Why would you even burn a Reroll on Loner for a non-turnover block dice?
It failed, and the next halfling tries a 1D block on the same rat and got both down, there goes on cage corner to a 1D block without block against a block.

:hmmm: Genius.

Next turn, rat gets in without needing to dodge for 1D block on Zara - Got her down and it's game over.

Conclusion:
Jaedar was indeed playing it VERY safe, but the 2-1 scoreline was too flattering for the halfling.
If I look at the first half, Halfling got very unlucky with some dodge roll at the start, but otherwise recovered the game with a superb luck throw - and nearly scored a second with a Blitz.

The second half... the less said the better. The moment Zara dropped the ball, it was over.

Also the only person on that team who can throw at all. The dodge/stunty means that Haflings make half decent, if terribly slow, catchers. Terrible throwers of course. Skinks must be terribly effective.

Skinks are very effective at picking up unguarded balls and running away with them. They're also good at dieing.

Or as catchers (but no even half decent Lizardmen throwers!). Ag4 goblins (I got a few) are actually seriously effective players. Nothing like gutter runners with stunty of course ;) Glad those got removed.

The dying thing really isn't at all bad with having dodge and being so cheap to allow plenty of spares. I played plenty of games with goblins and mostly it was just fine. Longbeards though are basically custom designed hafling/goblin/skink murdering machines!

Well fuck me. I've apparently run over Nuffle's prized poodle or something, because those dice today. God damn.

Anyway, here are the stats, and to give some context the halfling chef that left him with one reroll, and he used it in the first turn:

ImageMatchReport.aspx

Okay, technically a kick off event gave him one for the 2nd half, but he didn't need it at all.

Don't be afraid of the TV differences. There are a lot of new/low TV teams as well and even if you do get drawn against a high TV team, you'll get a lot of toys to use against them to even the playing field dramatically.

It's not as big a deal as it sounds - you generally lose because of the other player's skill* rather than because of their team value.
*Or because the RNG hates you but that too is Bloodbowl. -IainC

10 KOs, 5 injuries. Yep, those chaos teams know how to lay down the hurt. Many claw/MB players on his team?

Really just his Minotaur has both, and a couple of other beastmen & chaos warriors have either or. The dice just hated me today (going over the stats in BBM show me that I got 1 out of 8 pick up rolls, it being a rainy day, where he got all of his.)

RUNNING. CIRCLES.
ImageMatchReport.aspx

Yeah, between the mounting rat casualties and failing every action that mattered, whether it was a throw, a GfI, a Dodge, KO rolls or whatever, I wasn't really able to contest the game. So many times I stood my remaining guys up then immediately turned over on the first action of the turn. Satael played a solid game but he didn't need to. I had no players on the pitch to contest with by about turn 12 or so and Nuffle wasn't letting me complete any kind of play anyhow.

Hey guys, we're back, this time we're playing against H.
megrim: so, how close do you think you're going to get to winning it this season?
rk: not even close
rk: jaedar's gonna win it
megrim: really?
rk: yep

The amount of TV difference is pretty big, but I really don't care about cutting the squad. They all look fine to me. I think, looking from the division meta - we should be safe with 12 points in the bag.

01.jpg

So the priority today is earning those SPP for players who are primed for level ups.

02.jpg

They took Morg the Star Player and a Wizard.

03.jpg

04.jpg

Won the coin toss and went for receive.

05.jpg

Good start.
Standard LOS bash ensues.

06.jpg

No injuries, but we got a shot at Morg...

07.jpg

Naturally, Whitewolf will take that shot.

08.jpg

No injury. We'll give him the boot later. But first, let's get that 1 SPP for Arkay.

09.jpg

Meh. Reroll, short pass to stabby.

10.jpg

Wow. Much excitement.
Let's foul.

11.jpg

Fouling with ball carrier - cause I don't really care.

12.jpg

No injury but a stun. End of Turn.

Megrim launches counter 2D blocks on...

01.jpg

02.jpg

They got all their rolls. Sigh.

03.jpg

Oh boy.

04.jpg

Oh, it's just Azira.

05.jpg

End their turn having gotten 4 good downs on our players but no injuries so far.
I decided to reply with a 4ST 1D block on their Bloodthirster.

01.jpg

Reroll.

02.jpg

Got him. Calling stabby to blitz as he moves.
You should blitz with your ball carrier, nobody would expect this.

03.jpg

04.jpg

Got stabby into a TD position with 3 GFI (He can do it with Sprint.)
Meanwhile, let's dodge out Whitewolf...

05.jpg

Meh. Didn't call apothecary. Turnover.

Much enthusiasm into this game. I can feel it. Do you?

Khorne's turn...
01.jpg

02.jpg

Oh no.

03.jpg

Stuns Arkay.

04.jpg

Davis stunned too. Sigh.

05.jpg

Stabby gets pushed by Juggernaut blitz, in the danger zone now.

06.jpg

Meanwhile, Lund and Humppalekka is eating dirt as they end turn.
Our turn.

01.jpg

Think we need more people there, getting Jaedar in there with a blitz.

02.jpg

Good. Stabby with 2D block now.

03.jpg

OK. Nice going.
Xeno can try 1D Block here defender has no block - it's a good chance -

04.jpg

Guess not. Rerolled.

05.jpg

Phew. Azira, how about you? Are you going to give me a red skull?

Big bad gets up.

01.jpg

More 1D Blocks thrown...

02.jpg

03.jpg

Ah, LundB gets taken down.

04.jpg

Broke his ribs. Fine. No Apo.

05.jpg

Guppy gets punched down by Morg, but his armor held as the Khorne ends their turn.
Much tension here.

Our turn.

01.jpg

Guess I'll set up muckguppy as a decoy receiver.

02.jpg

Dodge out Xeno cause I don't want him to die before playoffs. Told him to blitz too, cause he has block.

03.jpg

04.jpg

Did just fine.
OK. What now genius? You gonna delay TD? On Sunday morning? Don't you wanna go back to Skyrim? Play your Khajitt boxer?

05.jpg

Yeah. Let's go back to Skyrim. This game's boring.

So Whitewolf and LundB missing next game against 1600 TV Chaos.

01.jpg

Fine. Was getting tired of giving away inducements.
Let's kick.

02.jpg

03.jpg

Yay. Whee.

04.jpg

05.jpg

Hm. Too bad.

06.jpg

So many stuns today.

07.jpg

Got the ball without a reroll. Their turn ends.

01.jpg

I'm lazy, so let's just walk up straight and asked for it.

02.jpg

03.jpg

Yay. Look at stabby go. Wow. Much...whatever.

04.jpg

Hey, that GFI is free with Sure feet amirite?
More people would be nice, calling in Humpy.

05.jpg

Rocket science. Not gonna waste last RR on it.

06.jpg

He is stunned by this decision.

01.jpg

eklektyk gets taken down.
While Big Bad blitzes guppy to free up some demon on the left.

02.jpg

04.jpg

Even Jasede can't stand up to the pounding from Morg as our LOS gets wiped.

05.jpg

They end their turn, marking stabby.
Guess it's time.

01.jpg

Walked eklektyk up there, only to realize he walked into Guard piece.

02.jpg

Oh well, dodge stabby out for assist cancel.

03.jpg

2D Block didn't get a Down we need on a Blodge carrier... I didn't reroll. Regretted it.
End of our turn.
...
..
.

Faggots

01.jpg

02.jpg

Angelo gets stunned as the blitzing Big Red repositions...

03.jpg

04.jpg

Ball dodges out -

05.jpg

01.jpg

02.jpg

Do it anyway.

03.jpg

04.jpg

Jaedar and stabby makes it. Stabby burning 3 GFIs again. Why won't he die?

05.jpg

Azira with a mobile blitz.

06.jpg

But failed the last hurdle. Sorry.

07.jpg

The decision stuns him. Turnover.

01.jpg

Wow. Look at him go. We can't stop him now.

03.jpg

Looks dire. Fagsalom exits the game with a KO.

04.jpg

Jaedar is marked.

05.jpg

Never mind.

06.jpg

No tears to shed anymore. Our turn.

07.jpg

08.jpg

Just pushed off -2D block. End our turn, because faggots.
