codex_10.jpg
To be honest, I am exhausted. I think I've deserved some rest?

Yes.

codex_10.jpg
So, Copper Coronet?

Sounds good. Although, do you mind doing one more thing on the way?

codex_10.jpg
On the way? Where?

Temple District.

codex_10.jpg
That is pretty fucking out of the way considering where I am.

bg2_up24_031.jpg

Not anymore.

Update #24: Probably Should Have Rested First

bg2_up24_032.jpg

Our hero is tired but happy, like a new mother after giving a birth.

codex_10.jpg
That example was kind of disturbing.

bg2_up24_033.jpg

I'm not sure if that THAC0 is correct. It should have worsened by at least two points since we switched from Lilarcor to Staff of the Magi.

bg2_up24_034.jpg

We have items giving us a total of +7 bonus to saving throws. That is pretty ridiculous awesome.

bg2_up24_035.jpg

Nothing new here.

bg2_up24_036.jpg

The Codex has killed 664 enemies in his less than 42 days of adventure. This means every day, on average, around 16 creatures end their life due to our hero's actions. I hope nobody in real life gets inspired by this.

bg2_up24_037.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So... What exactly am I supposed to do here?

bg2_up24_038.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Forget I asked.

bg2_up24_039.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It was nice of them to teleport away after the dialogue, and leave me free to loot everything.

bg2_up24_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Although I feel they may have taken some offense.

bg2_up24_041.jpg

Most summoned creatures attack Glabrezu, but the Nishruu seems to find our hero tasty.

codex_10.jpg
Traitor!

bg2_up24_042.jpg

Fortunately, we have a perfectly non-magical two-handed sword just for such a situation.

bg2_up24_043.jpg

We deal with the Nishruu while Glabrezu slaughters everyone else in the lobby.

bg2_up24_045.jpg

After it is alone, we dispose of it without problems.

bg2_up24_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Trapped containers promise the best loot.

bg2_up24_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And it actually looks decent.

bg2_up24_048.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Meh.

bg2_up24_050.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I always wanted to summon one of these!

bg2_up24_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Another new spell.

bg2_up24_051.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not bad either.

Although we won't be using it, too much hassle.

bg2_up24_052.jpg

Both spells are learned.

bg2_up24_053.jpg

codex_10.jpg
They are ambushing me right by the stairs. This reminds me of the Iron Throne tower.

bg2_up24_054.jpg

First attack = stunned by Celestial Fury. Such luck.

bg2_up24_055.jpg

At least it was relatively painless. Probably.

Death Count: 138

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
I have a feeling this party should not be underestimated.

bg2_up24_056.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I will start by going around them and looting everyhting.

bg2_up24_057.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Very funny.

bg2_up24_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I really should not be surprised to find traps and secret passages everywhere.

bg2_up24_059.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I wonder why they did not take these items into combat with them.

bg2_up24_060.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This might actually be useful.

bg2_up24_061.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The tenants here are seriously mistrustful of people. It's not like anyone could sneak in here and steal everything.

bg2_up24_062.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, hello there.

bg2_up24_063.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Always nice to be able to deal 8d6 AoE damage.

bg2_up24_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And what do we have here?

bg2_up24_065.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Interesting. No saving throw either.

We could keep those for boss-killing purposes. We'll see.

bg2_up24_066.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I highly doubt if this slingshot is any better than the one I have.

bg2_up24_067.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Exactly.

bg2_up24_068.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Alright, time to wrap things up here.

bg2_up24_069.jpg

codex_10.jpg
That takes care of the mage.

bg2_up24_070.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Take 8d6 AoE damage!

bg2_up24_071.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Mah luhng!

bg2_up24_072.jpg

There's more backstabbing here than in Diplomacy.

Death Count: 139

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
I'll kill that bitch!

bg2_up24_074.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I really like doing this.

bg2_up24_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Note: some people start to glow green when subjected to fire.

bg2_up24_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And now you can't see me!

We promised not to use this cheesy tactic of turning invisible in the middle of combat.

codex_10.jpg
I'm having a hard time recalling that I promised anything like this.

bg2_up24_077.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There goes the wand.

bg2_up24_078.jpg

codex_10.jpg
LetsSeeIfYouCanTakeMeOnIfIAmSuperHasted!

bg2_up24_079.jpg

Yup. He can.

Death Count: 140

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
Fucking wannabe ninja jerkass shitface motherfucker.

I can tell You really dislike that Koshi guy.

bg2_up24_080.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Eat lightning, asshead!

bg2_up24_081.jpg

codex_10.jpg
FUCK NO! I refuse to die fightning you yet again!

bg2_up24_082.jpg

Once again, denial changes nothing.

Death Count: 141

Reloading.

codex_10.jpg
Any brilliant ideas?

What, You suddenly once again need my help? What happened to Your own tactical genius?

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you then.

bg2_up24_083.jpg

Not sure what The Codex is casting here, but it must be something from a magical item.

bg2_up24_084.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I have a few things to say to you too, bitch.

bg2_up24_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, I hate when she does that.

bg2_up24_086.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Invisiblity serving you well over there?

bg2_up24_087.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Alright, bring it on!

bg2_up24_088.jpg

codex_10.jpg
DON'T BRING IT ON! STOP BRINGING IT ON!

bg2_up24_089.jpg

Trying the same approach over and over again does not seem to work here.

Death Count: 142

Load.

codex_10.jpg
I have an idea.

You'll try a different approach?

bg2_up24_090.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hell no.

bg2_up24_091.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'll try the exact same approach while wearing armor.

bg2_up24_092.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, I really hate this woman!

bg2_up24_093.jpg

codex_10.jpg
My precious blood, it's everywhere!

bg2_up24_094.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Save me, my mighty staff!

What, again with the cheese?

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you!

bg2_up24_095.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'll kill these other guys first to improve my mood.

bg2_up24_096.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damn, why did this Stalman guy have to interfere?

bg2_up24_097.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Stop casting spells!

bg2_up24_098.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, take this blade outta my belly!

It seems that Olaf Rasmussen hits just as hard as Koshi.

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, I've noticed!

bg2_up24_099.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Have a fireball!

bg2_up24_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damnit, give me fucking break!

bg2_up24_101.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Daddy, help me!

bg2_up24_102.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Where are you, daddy!

bg2_up24_103.jpg

Funnily enough, it was a trap.

Death Count: 143

Reload.

codex_10.jpg
No, I don't remember screaming like a little girl, so don't even bother asking.

bg2_up24_104.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Uhrk...

This isn't a very good start.

bg2_up24_105.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Does this blade barrier spell even work?

Beats me.

bg2_up24_106.jpg

Koshi's back.

codex_10.jpg
Go away! I'm not yet finished with your child-molesting friend here.

bg2_up24_107.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me show my huge balls... of fire!

bg2_up24_108.jpg

I have to admit, this Koshi guy looks rather badass relentlessly hunting You with his dual katanas, despite being on fire.

codex_10.jpg
Whose side are you on?

Well, he wields two katanas and You switched Your sword for a stick. A fancy stick, but still...

codex_10.jpg
Keep talking and I'll show you what I can do with a stick like this. It will involve your anus.

bg2_up24_109.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Once again, the wand of fire is exhausted.

Hopefully, it's the last time (spoiler: it's not).

codex_10.jpg
That means I will die, doesn't it?

bg2_up24_110.jpg

I never said it was a big spoiler.

Death Count: 144

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
So, how many screenshots do we have in this update? It would be nice to know up front how many times more I will end up cut to pieces by this Koshi guy.

I bet it would.

bg2_up24_111.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This web spell is like my personal I Got You Babe.

bg2_up24_112.jpg

codex_10.jpg
They should be getting bonus damage from my fireball if they're trapped in the web.

This is Baldur's Gate, not Knights of the Chalice.

bg2_up24_113.jpg

codex_10.jpg
DIE ALREADY!

Once again, we use up the wand of fire.

bg2_up24_114.jpg

That is one well-working Web spell, I'd say.

bg2_up24_115.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I will attack them from the other side.

bg2_up24_116.jpg

Well, that was actually unexpected.

Death Count: 145

Loading the game.

codex_10.jpg
WHAT THE FUCK!

Check for traps.

bg2_up24_117.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh.

bg2_up24_118.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Since open warfare does not seem to be an effective approach, I will try some guerilla hit & run tactics.

bg2_up24_119.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Here, I'll show what my 'stick' can do.

bg2_up24_120.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Lightning/fireball, bitch!

Watch out. Koshi.

codex_10.jpg
What!? When did he get here!?

bg2_up24_121.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There's more when that came from!

bg2_up24_122.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck! I hope the regeneration on ring of Gaxx will make my eyebrows grow back.

bg2_up24_123.jpg

So, they cannot see You even though You are on fire. Or are the flames invisible too? And smoke?

codex_10.jpg
Instead of answering your idiotic and pointless question I'd like to point out the fact that the fucking backstabbing whore is dead.

bg2_up24_124.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh... Oh, that felt reeeeaaally gooooood.

Spare me the details.

bg2_up24_125.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No! No! Fuck you, Stallman! I will stab you so hard that you will need to be picked up with chopsticks!

bg2_up24_126.jpg

Wow, it was no idle threat.

bg2_up24_127.jpg

Although his friends seem to not have taken kindly to it.

bg2_up24_128.jpg

After luring two remaining enemies away and bravely turning himself invisible, our hero comes back to check the loot.

bg2_up24_129.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I suddenly have the urge to start using katanas.

If this sword was a +4, it would easily be one of the best weapons in the game. These abilities are pure awesome. +3 is not a powerful enough enchantment to carry it all the way through, though.

bg2_up24_130.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Is that all the mage had? Kind of disappointing.

bg2_up24_131.jpg

Well, most enemies seem to use very limited amounts of equipment. For example, Stalman here would be much better off getting a helmet and a shield with his weapon and armor, even non-magical ones.

bg2_up24_132.jpg

bg2_up24_133.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Standard issue magical equipment. Boring like an Elcor opera.

You shouldn't know what Elcor are.

codex_10.jpg
And you shouldn't breathe. Apparently, the world is not perfect.

bg2_up24_134.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ten potions of invisibility? Screw this shit. People who can turn themselves invisible all the time are so fucking anno- Oh, I almost walked right into that one, haven't I?

Yup.

bg2_up24_135.jpg

bg2_up24_136.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Move along, nothing to see.

bg2_up24_137.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Time to turn my attention back toward Laurel & Hardy here.

bg2_up24_138.jpg

codex_10.jpg
My ear! Fuck! Runaway!

bg2_up24_139.jpg

Trap Sprung.

Death Count: 146

Game load.

codex_10.jpg
Of course by 'runaway' I meant 'retreat a little'.

bg2_up24_140.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I will just disarm these, so I can employ better mobility around the battlefield.

bg2_up24_141.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This bow shoots like crazy, but its average damage sucks monkey balls.

bg2_up24_142.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you and your critical hits!

bg2_up24_143.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's see how this wand of paralyzation works... Aha! Gotcha!

bg2_up24_144.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damn, my guts are so perforated right now, I will be pissing blood for the next week.

bg2_up24_145.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Surely, you're not scared, are you?

bg2_up24_146.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ouch! Good thing I'm bald. I'd hate to have to wash my hair after each hit to the head.

bg2_up24_147.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Such a satisfying crack.

bg2_up24_148.jpg

Right after hitting the magically paralyzed Maferan with a magic-disppeling staff, our hero realizes he should probably heal himself first.

codex_10.jpg
I probably should have healed myself first.

bg2_up24_149.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I hate to resort to kiting, but whatever works...

Obligatory Benny Hill music

bg2_up24_150.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I feel this might take a while...

bg2_up24_151.jpg

Starting the second lap, our hero still is ahead of Maferan by quite a bit.

bg2_up24_152.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, I think I've regenerated enough. Time to employ my cattle prod!

bg2_up24_153.jpg

*smack* *smack* *smack*

bg2_up24_154.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, come-the-fuck-on!

bg2_up24_155.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And he exploded. Typical.

bg2_up24_156.jpg

codex_10.jpg
That's a lot of stuff.

bg2_up24_162.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And even more here.

bg2_up24_157.jpg

bg2_up24_158.jpg

bg2_up24_159.jpg

bg2_up24_160.jpg

bg2_up24_161.jpg

bg2_up24_163.jpg

bg2_up24_164.jpg

codex_10.jpg
All shit, though.

Now you're being unfair.

codex_10.jpg
Fine. Vendor-trash. Can we go now? I would like to rest, finally.

Nice job !

I do think Celestial Fury is one of the best weapons in the game, despite only being +3 : the fact that whoever it hits has to make a saving throw or be stunned is devastating. It becomes much less useful early in ToB, however.

Next quest... Hmm... Well, since we're in Athkatla, how about the Astral Prison ?

I feel like I need to point out that next quest = after Trademeet (which is already done).

I remembered that afterwards. But I'm still voting for the Astral Prison. :)

While you're in Trademeet, I guess you can deal with Rejiek, BTW.

This is one of the joys of BG2. You are in the city, walking around, find a random manor in the temple district, walk in, and end up facing a buttrape of high level spellcasters and fighters protected around traps that kill you instantly. And just stumble upon some of the best weapons and items around, such as Celestial Fury. How about that?

Just seeing stuff like this revives that interest in playing it all over again. But first I must finish my BG1 playthrough on BGT.

It was today until I've realized that I forgot to upload the screenshots to photobucket.

Tomorrow then. But it is literally a few screenshots only, so don't expect miracles.

Since I wasn't making save files backups regularly (now I am...), The Codex and I were bumped back to de'Arnise Hold, fighting trolls. Getting back to the state from after Update #24 took some time and was as entertaining as You might imagine, but it went relatively smoothly, since I played on the easiest difficulty and did not gimp myself with not resting for long periods of time. Still, some deaths occured... More than I expected, actually.

This update is supposed to show the major differences that occured during the replay.

Update #25: Intermission

bg2_up25_003.jpg

First, we missed this little quest during the initial playthrough. 9500 XP is not much, but since we're clearing the sewers anyway, why not take the opportunity?

bg2_up25_004.jpg

Second, there is a stash above the Wall of Infinite Spawning If You Click On It, with some nice stuff in it, also missed the first time.

bg2_up25_005.jpg

bg2_up25_006.jpg

bg2_up25_007.jpg

All these spells are new to The Codex, and while their usability varies, it's always nice to get 13K free XP.

bg2_up25_008.jpg

bg2_up25_009.jpg

One of the mummies during Unseeying Eye quests dropped this rare spell, which was promptly learned by The Codex.

bg2_up25_010.jpg

Fate balanced all the newly found spells by not giving The Codex his Horrid Wilting this time, which kind of sucks.

bg2_up25_015.jpg

We wrap up this update by saying farewell to a loyal friend.
Goodbye, Lilarcor. You've served us well, but we don't need You anymore.

I am actually rather disappointed with myself in how Lilarcor turned out in this LP. My initial idea was to turn him into another regular character, that would trade banter with both the player and The Codex, but it kind of did not spark. I blame partially my irregular free time which causes this LP to be written when the opportunity arises, with most of the text being created on the fly, and partially my incompetence as a writer.

---

Next time: We shall get back on track with regular adventuring by travelling to Trademeet.

Next quest selection details:
You can still shape reality by voting for the next quest. Current votes:

1. Firkraag [Azira]
2. Firkraag [MotherMachinae]
3. Korgan's quest [Aeschylus]
4. Rescuing Haer'dalis [Erebus] Astral Prison <- not available yet
5. Firkraag [Thor Kaufman]
6. Firkraag [Storyfag]
7. Firkraag [Shadenaut]

Honestly, I think that Lilarcor was adequately entertaining in this LP.

Anyway, most people seem to want a red dragon, so I'll have to continue to vote for a shadow dragon. Temple Ruins, then.

Looking forward to the druid-slaughter.

Hopefully, Cernd will be among the victims.

He'll probably die after he serves his purpose, unless Shadowkeeper shenanigans ensue; The Codex's monocled True Neutral alignment won't allow for the most fun resolution.

The Codex can't *really* piss off the silver dragon either. Such is the burden of :obviously:.

But-but-but! Playing both the "goody" silver dragon and "evul" drow removes two scheming extremist powers for the price of one (super neutral!), and also provides the means to create the prestigious human flesh armour!
