Let's talk about Lacrymas' homebrew fantasy setting where paladins are eunuchs

If you mean brotherhood as organized militaristic structure, then no they didn't have one.
No, they had exactly warrior societies inside tribe where
Each group had their rituals, warpaint, decorations etc.
+ lots of groups like "young warriors", "married old men who don't raid anymore" and so on.

It's a way of life because they devote themselves to the sisterhood and to being a mercenary/adventurer. There are no barbarian tribes as in chieftains and wooden huts in the mountains. Also, they aren't nuns, the sisterhood and by extension the academy aren't a religious institution.
:hmmm:
Then it is a mercenaries not barbarians, you uneducated germanicus barbares.

No, men not being allowed to join a sisterhood is the same as men not being allowed to join an all-girls school or a nun convent.

Having barbarians as a sisterhood the same as being retarded :)
Your buttons cannot save you Lacrymas of Bulgaria

fantadomat git over here. Lacrymas' shamefur dispray gives Bulgarians bad rep. Could you do something to him?
He is a german now.
:shredder:

Nice way to dodge that bullet :salute:

Wait, so you have sisters who aren't really sisters training to be barbarians who aren't really barbarians? It's just a fighting school that teaches you rage-fuelled martial art? You can just enter, learn how to rage properly and then leave? How does being devote to being an adventurer works? Does anyone check if you are adventurous enough?

They are sisters in tragedy. And it's essentially an academy which trains mercenaries, the training teaches them the techniques needed to be the Barbarian class. You don't really "leave", you are expected to either be a mercenary or an adventurer to contribute to the coffers. Most of the time, militaries or adventuring groups go to them to hire one of the sisters, but sisters can request to be discharged for a time to attend to personal affairs/missions. In the one-shot that we played, the barbarian was sent to the village to help with local problems.

What if I get trained and simply stop paying them?

What happens irl if you leave a mercenary company?

Nothing? In modern times they'll probably sue you for breach of contract but in fantasy setting they have no way of knowing if you've left or simply died somewhere.

And you aren't paying them, you are the good being sold.

Sold to whom? DnD style adventuring parties?
I haven't really thought about it, but they might have special groups dedicated to hunting sisters who skirt their duty. Are they really going to desert willy-nilly, though? What happens if a squire-in-training leaves the knight he is assigned to after his training is done? Hell, what happens to a knight if he deserts? It's the same thing. And I already answered who they are sold to in the last post you quoted, it's to anyone needing a mercenary, mostly the military or adventuring parties. Like I said, the barbarian in our last group was sent to the village the one-shot takes place in to help with the troubles there. If her orders are vague enough, like "help with the troubles there", she might voluntarily join an adventuring party which has the same goals as her.

^ Exactly, there's some sort of punitive action. I like the special hunting groups, so I might go with that. Or maybe the sisterhood puts a bounty on the deserter. I doubt this will realistically happen frequently, especially since women go there voluntarily in order to find solidarity and to become warriors/mercenaries. It will obviously happen from time to time, but it won't be a massive problem.

"Desert setting. Resource scarcity. Theocracy. Forced resettlements" Let me invert Lacrymas setting.

  • Tundras instead of deserts. With a lot of dangerous carnivorous animals.
  • Resource abundance. There are plenty of food, mines, fresh water and etc thanks to the implementation of magic in agriculture and resources gathering
  • Magocracy + Tribal societies. There are city states governed by a magocracy which doesn't exert any strict control over their subjects and act like a Marid on D&D, arrogant but don't care about imposing their will on another people. They have no religion, some respect and admire Mystra but they don't worship anyone but themselves. The bulk of their military forces are death knights and golems.
  • Barbarians has supernatural powers, but their are nothing like arcane casters. Their believes are more about ancestral worshiping and they have some supernatural bodies, more strong than polar bears and they don't need any clothing to survive in the coldest freezing winter. They have natural regeneration, can move at superhuman speeds and a lot of vigor. Hence they can enjoy week long orgies(much better than chastity + castration). They also don't pray to their Gods. Like Crom, they see praying as a symbol of weakness.
  • Instead of forced resettlements, people value their soil a lot. And defend their soil with everything from hordes of Jotuns, Trolls and Angels which tries to convert then into a sissy egalitarian moral shamming religion. Soil is sacred for barbarians, since their ancestors are buried there and for mages, results of generations and generations of magical research and infrastructure which they depend upon are there. Both prefer to die than to leave their "settlements"
  • The world alignment is "chaotic neutral" and a central point in a cosmic conflict between law X chaos.

That's actually sounds pretty great.

I had strong icewind dale vibes with that "inverting Lacrymas" setting idea. Of course, no magocracy, no supernatural barbs, no hyberabundance of resources...

If you look just south of IWD, you get Luskan which is run by the Aryan Arcane Brotherhood.

I don't know it has some good points which I like that ID doesn't have:
-Angels waging crusades against barbarians
-Main conflict being waged between overly lawful wizards and chaotic barbarians
-Barbarians being actual ubermensch in lore
Feels more like the first campaign of Heroes Chronicles than Icewind Dale.

^ As always, I'm open to suggestions as to why that is. For both the right and faggoty aspects.
