Out of all the Silent Hills, I think this one makes the least sense to someone who hasn't done their research. You did a good job of explaining it.

Congratulations. I've quite enjoyed the LP and your writting. Good work.

So, that baby is like the new Cheryl? That Alessa girl reincarnated into a baby again? And what happened to the town after that? If that baby comes back again to Silent Hill in the future, will the shit hit the fan again?

Oh, well.

I thought the movie adaptation was quite awesome. Sure the story wasn't great (then again, same goes for the games) and some of the changes made rubbed people the wrong way, but they did a great job for the area that matters most when it comes to SH: the atmosphere. Movie had truly creepy moments, some nice Hellraiser-like brutality and they stayed true to the music. At least be thankful Uwe Boll didn't get his hands on it.

The movie fucked the lore up the ass, relied on cheap scares rather than building a sense of dread, and only used the most superficial elements from the series, IMO.

LPs are not over till the fat lady sings, and at this point the fat lady demands more endings and more explanations. So, what the Hell happened here ? Where is Cheryl ? Who is Cheryl ? What the hell happened in Silent Hill ? What the fuck were these Silent Team dudes smoking, mang ? The answer to the last question is easy : White Claudia Hurr Durr. As for the rest, let's see if we can make sense of the various events...

CHAPTER XXX :
accw1e.png

  • An ancient cult resided in Silent Hill, formed around the hallucinogen properties of the White Claudia plant that flourishes only in that area. They had a strange religion that probably started as Paganism and then adopted elements from Christianity.

    vcti80.jpg

  • The town was very reclusive until some people decided to make it a resort area. Silent Hill flourished as a tourist attraction, but the cult didn't like that. 20 years ago (from the current events), the staff of a new development group died mysteriously one after another. The cult was probably responsible for their deaths.

    14v2nog.jpg

  • 14 years ago Alessa Gillespie was born. She was treated harshly by other kids in school, maybe because she had unique abilities, or maybe just because her family was strange.

    5aq4uo.jpg

  • 7 years ago a fire breaks out that burns down many houses. The fire seems to have originated from the Gillespie house and Alessa was declared one of the victims. The cause of the fire was a ritual that Dahlia --her mother-- conducted in order to bring about the coming of a god. More precisely they tried to invoke Samael, a fallen archangel.

    wrbbc4.jpg

  • However, Alessa didn't die during the ritual. She was burned horribly but was kept alive with the means of magic and medicine. Kaufmann, another member of this cult, was also chief physician in the local hospital and he treated her body there in a secret underground facility. It was through her intense suffering that they meant to bring forth the god, into her body.

    2dreyax.jpg

  • It seems the connection with the god was made, but Alessa trying to escape her extreme torture, managed to separate her soul into two parts. One part remained in her and the other part was transfered to a newborn baby far away. Harry Mason and his wife found that baby on the side of the road and, having none of their own, decided to adopt it. They named her Cheryl.

  • After these events a drug known as "PTV" becomes prevalent in town. PTV was circulated among tourists and the town was corroded. It was a drug circulated by the cult, based on white claudia. First a criminal investigator and then the mayor himself met with mysterious deaths after trying to stop the drug trafficking.

    24e4cwx.jpg

  • The cult intensifies Alessa's suffering trying to bring the two parts of the soul together. Alessa, in a desperate effort to break the cult's control, brings forth the powers of the otherworld and sinks Silent Hill into a chaotic nightmare, her nightmare. Childhood drawings become living creatures, monsters from farytales are given form, and when the "other" silent hill emerges we can see burned buildings, bandaged figures, chained bodies... a projection of her own state.

    k2n3pw.jpg

  • By that time Harry's wife has died and it's just him and Cheryl. When they decide to go for a vacation, Cheryl chooses Silent Hill for their destination. She is drawn to this place, feeling the call from her kindred soul. When they arrive into town, they are both drawn in the nightmare. Harry is left unconscious and when he regains his senses, Cheryl is gone. Harry embarks to find her, and the game starts...

    206gfbb.jpg

  • As for the conclusion --if you get the good ending-- Alessa, right before she dies, gives Harry a newborn baby. It is hers and Cheryl's soul born anew... And yes that girl returns to Silent Hill eventually (Silent Hill 3), and shit hit the fan again.

Now, let's have a look at the other possible endings.

There are two choices that define the endings. One is deciding to investigate the Kauffman angle (search his hotel room and find the red vial) and the other is saving Cybil. Believe it or not, it's not saving Cybil that is of more importance, but it's Kaufmann's events. If you complete the Kaufmann side quest he'll appear in the end and use the red vial on Alessa, thus freeing her from the demon/god and enabling her to afterwards give you the new born baby. Whether or not you'll save Cybil affects if Cybil will be there with you in the end, helping you out. Now, let's see the endings :

BAD ENDING [Didn't help Kaufmann, didn't save Cybil]

Events unfold the same up until the god's awakening...

This time --since Kaufmann hasn't appeared-- Alessa isn't separated from the demon.

Unfortunately for Dahlia, no matter the ending, she always ends up well-done.

And guess who you have to fight now. Yup, Alessa.

:(

...and when you finally beat her...

Daddy...

Cheryl !

And then she disappears...

Blackout...

and we're back at the car crash.

The horn is screaming and Harry isn't moving. This was a nightmare he couldn't escape from.

Many players are likely to get this ending in their first playthrough. It's a rather fitting ending to this kind of story, if I may say so, even if it's rather sad. Well, at least you'll be rewarded with this awesome track.

BAD+ ENDING [Didn't help Kaufmann, saved Cybil]

This ending plays exactly like the BAD ending up to the point where Harry is on his knees devastated.

2ijsnyv.jpg

At that moment Cybil gets on her feet.

105e4r8.jpg

33nf669.jpg

This isn't a time to sink into misery, Cybil knows that.

That was Cybil's best moment :smug:

2hn57o8.jpg

Where they go to, we'll never know, but they're accompanied by this fantastic theme.

GOOD ENDING [Helped Kaufmann, didn't save Cybil]

This ending starts exactly like the GOOD+ ending. Alesssa is separated from the demon, we kill the demon and Alessa gives us the baby and opens the portal. Only this time it's only Harry that walks away.

2rnen83.jpg

He comes back to the roads of Silent Hill and stops to look at the sky...

2igkmle.jpg

2samsn7.jpg

Maybe he's saying goodbye to Cheryl.

ezpjev.jpg

This ending is dominated by this chilling piece of music.

Goodbye to you too. :salute:

Awesome!

What I liked about Silent Hill 4 was that it elaborated on how the cult in Silent Hill might have started out (although it got kind of semi-Lovecraftian).

Awesome stuff. I always wanted to see the game's story, but the crappy gameplay did not let me.
