being different than what you like isnt valid criticism of witcher.
it has its many flaws and lets be honest, which rpg doesnt have flaws (might and magic 6 being the sole exception) ? at the end its well made for its time.
storyfags and c&c fanatics are a thing (CYOA books says hello) and are just as valid as any other game kink (guess yours would be mechanics and party based combat?).

It's a popamole. The only half-decent Witcher game was the first one, and only due to its alchemy system. But CDPR failed even there because they didn't make alchemy consistently necessary on the default difficulty, which is what most people play on.

half-decent game had a rhythm clicking combat. No amount of alchemy salvages that.
As i said, many flaws but it has its worth among its contemporaries.

Poor Scorpia wrote during the so-called "Golden Age", which was a casual era: it's only the glorious Renaissance/API era that facilitates hardcore write-ups (Baldur's Gate, ToEE, Jagged Alliance 2). Go and check out 'Dex threads on the Goldbox games: nothing hardcore in sight. Just some oldfags talking about party composition. No stats, no breakdowns, no in-depth analysis of THAC0, AC and spell mechanics. Nothing! Because the games are primitive, full stop.

And (reading) too much in-depth analysis sucks the fun out of the BG games.

JA2
Diablo II
ToEE
NWN2 (maybe)

I’ve read some write-ups on these and I’ll definitely be playing them.

its not a bad list but 1996-2010 is a long time to gather in 1 group.
i found MotB too long winded and pretentious. like how you feel whenever lacrymas talks about art and shit.
pst showed you the world while motb had a character talk about it.

also i disagree about dao. its just the same as witcher .its combat is just as bad. both are loved for their stories, one borrows liberally from existing fiction and other is based on established books.

Note that octavius criticized both Fallout and Jagged Alliance 2. He also only played them recently--after he played Oblivion. Note that he has played neither ToEE nor Arcanum nor Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines; no Troika. But he has played Oblivion.:lol::lol:

I don’t think he cares about CnC and reactivity.

It's fucking awful, it truly is.

And The Witcher 1 & 2 are two of my fave games too.

I've gone over it a million times in TW3 thread, but the main game is just so, so, so boring for many reasons which I can't be arsed to go through again.

Great expansions though. It just amazes me the main game gets praised so much. It's Assasins Creed: Origins with better cut scenes & less interactive quests.
