One of the things Falksi (IIRC, correct me if I'm wrong dude) and I actually agree on. Live-A-Live is a fantastic JRPG. And its coming to Switch, remade Octopath style.

It's the same engine, yep. Shame those that cared for LaL already played it/watched LPs long ago.

You are severily underestimating the size of my backlog. By playing both crpgs and jrpgs I have so much stuff to game, that I never gotten to playing JP exclusives yet.

Yep, one of the better SNES RPGs which gets overshadowed by constant noobs bleating on about the same popular 16-bit RPGs over & over.

Think the remake looks good. Probably one of the highlights of the presentation, that and Triangle Strategy.

This was the most awesome announcement during the last Nintendo Direct. I love the original Live a Live and i cant wait to get my hands on this beautiful remake. Hope they one day give Chrono Trigger, FF 6, Treasure of the Rudras and Treasure Hunter G the same treatment.

It looks shit though.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
LAL was very cool.

It's good to see that it finally gets an official translation.

Some of the tunes in this game are also top tier tracks.

It's legit my favourite announcement of the direct alongside Xenoblade 3.

Live a live SNES is a very interesting but somewhat flawed game.
This remake look absolutely fantastic while SNES version was very middle gen (close to FF V rather than chrono trigger)
If they perfect the battle system and add substance to some scenarii they have a 10/10 game at their hands.*

Oh and if you hesitate to play snes game, play at the very least the robot chapter, it's really incredibly good.

But really, what a surprise, frankly i'm very happy that SE realizes the potential of HD2D both for new games and remakes.
Not to mention cool projects like dungeon encounters.

I'm noticing that each year comes with a lot of good to great JRPGs and 2022 doesn't look any different

This was the biggest surprise announcement in a Nintendo Direct kind of full of surprises. Of all the things I'd expect to be remarked, and leave Japan, this and Front Mission weren't exactly at the top of that list. Looks good.

I wouldn't call Live A Live a very middle gen looking SNES games. As far as JRPGs on the system go, it was one of the better looking ones with those nice big sprites it had for all the characters. Was recently thinking about Live A Live and it's nice big sprites because of that FF Pixel Remaster thread, and talk of Yoshitaka Amano. It's kind of funny, for being a more niche title it seemed to get a little more love than any of the Final Fantasy game back when it came out, and now the same seems to be true when it comes to remaking this compared to the new FF6.

That looks pretty cool, didn't expect that by how obscure it is outside of Japan. I wonder whether the new graphics will fit the feel of the original game.

I enjoyed this game back in the day a lot. I'll have to get my Nephew to lend me his switch for a while (he's been looking at my ps5 so he can borrow that for a while).

The White Hot Rage I felt from the medieval chapter when I first played that came back when I watched the trailer. Boy howdy that fucking pissed me off. Kinda wish that Oerstad wasn't still a silent protag though. Never cared for silent Protags. This one is a little bit more forgivable for reasons though.

I find it humorous that they listed Lei first with the Sensei's disciples
and barely even showed the other disciples in the main trailer besides Lei which is probably an acknowledgement that almost everybody picked her to be the inheritor

Sundance is cool. And I like his VA. Definite Clint vibes there.

Akira/Cube chapters were fine.

Ninja was cool due to how were given multiple approaches.

Sensei was great, and was a key part of the replayabitlity of the game.

Baki wannabe is probably the weakest.

And I will always find it funny that they have a chapter in this game lead by a character who's whole motivation is to basically get laid.

If they give actual story and interaction between the characters in
the final chapter where they all meet up
I'd consider it to be absolutely perfect.

It looks like Octopath Traveler including the overbloom except they tried to fit it with the stories, but you can tell they used it as a framework for a UE4 port for better or for worse, they didn't bother dumping money into making another 3D remake.

Overall it's pretty faithful to the original, so they did a good job on this remake. Consider it something like a shorter saga frontier with different systems. They did a good enough job on this remake that I wouldn't mind a bit if they gave these other 3 the same treatment:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_of_the_Rudras
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_Hunter_G
https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Bahamut_Lagoon

The pixel remasters they did for the Final Fantasy games are massive decline IMO (except for 3), but they did good on this one.

Odio was such a cool character. Genuinely felt for him in a way I normally don't. Couldn't ask for a better choice for a remake.

I just bought this after playing the demo. The Far Future chapter is so damn good.
Lots of sci-fi horror cliches, but it throws enough red herrings at you to keep you guessing until the end. It's very intense when you need to go exploring and know the behemoth is stalking around the ship, even if it's not that hard to avoid.
So far I've cleared the Present Day and Wild West chapters as well. Those were fun as well, though Present Day felt pretty half-baked, taking only about an hour to complete. I'm hoping the others will feel a bit meatier like Far Future. Great game, though.
