In Wiz 1 is it worth it to change a fighters class to a Samurai? Or should I just wait until I have enough stats to make him a Lord?

you don't need advance class to finish the game , but it'll help if you plan on doing scenario two after that.

they're both good options. samurais are worth it for getting extra Malor's and extra Tiltowait spells, and Lords are worth it for having extra healing, resurrection and extra Holy damange spells. that's the beauty of classic wizardry; it's perfectly balanced. even keeping a pure fighter can be worth it as they get lots more hit points than any other class. the only class that worthless is the thief as there is absolutely no reason to keep a thief around instead of grooming him for ninja class.

Right now I am grinding on level 10 right outside the teleport pad to the surface. Hoping to get some good drops. Tiltowait's sound good I think I might change to a samurai.

here the picture I did with transparent background. to be honest I don't know if I did a good job...in particular the last one, had a lot of trouble with her hair. also do like the ''size'' of your picture, they feel more all the same size...
I did resize some when I did mine :S
You posted jpegs, I need them in transparent PNGs.
You can either upload them to an image hosting website (e.g. imgur.com) or zipped them to a file hosting website.

Only doing it once, so do upload your 5 finalized 192x192 transparent PNGs.

this looks fantastic. the only thing that ruins it are the horrible portraits on the side.

i've been thinking about somehow making scenarios using wizardry 5 pc-98 version assets. i would love to make a new wireframe wizardry that implements the innovations starfish did to the series with empire and elminage.

reading up more thoroughly on what this wizardry editor can do.

man that compression really doesn't do justice to the super high resolution font in the PC-98 ports. those japanese computers had such good font graphics because they were specced for drawing katakana and hiragana characters.

i was fooling around with the wizardry legacy construction kit and made a small maze. it is really easy to make the maze but your options are very limited. however the thing that almost completely kills the construction kit is the rules implementation. it features a lot of bastardized "house rules" the programmer implemented and it's a weird hybrid of wiz 1-5 rules + wiz 6-8 rules without actually being either one; even the primary attributes are completely different and there is no vancian spell casting. it kind of deflated my interest to be honest.

ok so i finally decided to test the encounter rate / encounter(s) between the different versions of a Wizardry game and surprise surprise the original version has a waaaay more hard-core encounter system. Not only the rate, which is not shown in my brief video (it's crazy high compared to the other versions) but specifically the fixed encounters. In the original version of Wiz 3 you can literally get ANYTHING from the dungeon floor's monster list whereas the remakes have explicitely placed "softer" fixed encounters.

Heh, you could always email the dude your criticisms. Who knows? Maybe we'll find the one person who listens.

I think you're going to like this Wizardry Construction Kit. I made two brief 4 minute videos showing how easy and quickly you can tile a simple maze.

the end of the video; using the software's feature to navigate your maze in first-person on the fly while you're tiling. it's awesome.

The Wizardry OVA is indeed quite good and indicative of the times it was made in(including that one wishes there was more of it)---one of those rare situations where I reckon it would be A Good Thing to get a game based on it outright in terms of tone and style, not unlike how a Dai's Adventure riff would be good for a Dragon Quest sideline. I mean, anime based on games tends to have a pretty horrendous conversion rate given the impetus is the cash-in versus any heart put into it---so one does well to laud the times where they get onto something.

nice I'll have to spend more time on it someday. I kind of wished it was easy like mapic, but it seems not bad once you're used...

i made a gnarly maze in another thread, heh. waiting for a mod to merge it to this one. haven't created a party yet to playtest it; i want to make a redonkulous 50x50 kernel/spiral/vortex/multiplied behemoth maze with 16 sections
