Grab the Codex by the pussy Divinity: Original Sin Torment: Tides of Numenera Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
No one should dismiss a game for it looking questionable. We should see whether or not anyone has tried them and if they found the gameplay solid, whether or not they are eroge games. As for Sanctuary RPG: Black Edition, the game does look great and I have heard good things, but I'm also surprised to see it on a list of Wizardry-like games. I guess it works out if you are including CRPGs that are single player rather than party-based.

i did some more research on it and it's apparently not even a real dungeon crawler. i struggled with whether i should add it or not since it is an official Wizardry game but in the end it doesn't deserve the time of day. it's a pay-to-win cash grab with a few good qualities. I mean, Wizardry: the Nemesis adventure is also not listed and i'm well aware of that... um, "masterpiece".

that's also why i post these findings first in this thread before adding it to the list so you guys can comment on them since no one man can play everything, and the japanese blogger whose review i read concerning this particular Wiz phone game obviously cannot be trusted.

as for the language thing i don't know if you've taken a look at the original post recently, as in today for example, but i have improved the formatting and readability a lot and each entry clearly states in what language the game is playable and whether there is a translation patch or at least a translation project in the works with links to those things. so far the japanese-language titles i have added that are outside of the Wizardry-franchise have all been recommended by people like you, dorar, courtier, and others from the forum.

if you think there's a game we should add to the list share it!

btw i already have a MegaTen thread draft ready to go and i'm including links to each game's OST (a youtube link).

what i've been thinking is making a third thread specifically for ALL turn-based dungeon crawlers that are NOT wizardry-franchise. That thread would include the Etrian Odyssey series, the Elminage series, the Generation XTH series, etc; and all of the games currently listed under Wizardry-inspired. yeah, i think that's exactly what i'll do. that also opens the door for adding more and more "import" 'crawlers in that thread without clashing with the long list of Wizardry titles.

Deuce Traveler

I'm going to move Sanctuary and all the other "Wizardry-inspired" games to the non-Wizardry blobber thread soon enough. although I would argue that whether the game was party-based or not was never one of the criterias in contention for a game to be a Wiz-clone and the developers cite Wizardry as an inspiration.

EDIT: returning to the language thing remember that there are a lot of people who play foreign-language games without knowing the language and the dungeon-crawler genre itself is one of the best possible genres to play without understanding the language. heh, i've actually learned quite a bit of hiragana just from playing japanese-language elminage and wizardry empire games. what I do is i write down the english-language command in a menu, or the english-language dialog of an event/NPC, then i write down the japanese characters on a piece of paper and compare. i can now immediately recognize the characters for samurai/bushido, katana, sword, map, attack/fight, flee, parry/defend, armor, helmet, spears; also the characters for directions like left and right.

the trouble comes with the dialogue as the same character that means knight can mean mercenary or swordsman or samurai depending on what character is before it or after it so i by no means am trying to say that i can read npc dialog. it has made me want to learn hiragana though for real.

actually elminage and experience inc. games should stay in the wizardry thread right where they are: under "games by ex-developers of wizardry". the rest, i.e. the ones under "wizardry-inspired" are going into the new thread, except it won't be titled wizardry-inspired instead it'll be "turn-based dungeon crawlers".

etrian odyssey series's going to go in there, since the series is too short to merit it's own compilation thread; all of the games currently under wiz-inspired such as paper sorcerer and starcrawlers are going to go into that thread as well, along with games like lost heroes 1 and 2 and hand-picked japanese-language 'crawlers.

smt thread will be its own thing. would it be against the forum rules to link directly to official video game strategy guides? was thinking of adding that to each smt game entry.

Yes! Feels good to be correct. Screw phones man. Wait, wait. Oh, shit, I can't believe I forgot these. Introducing, Sorcerer!
screen320x480.jpeg

There's 5 of 'em, all free. I never got to it because of time. Don't know how good it is, but bam. What a find.

So yeah, sounds like a plan, man. It's a fine system and I'll just inquire as to which ones I'd need help in. Oh, and speaking of iOS, don't forget to add that the GBA port of SMT is on phones too. In english, no less.

compile heart....kind of suck because their card game was kinda interesting but it was missing something. and then Moero chronicle, it just suck. it's a fan service game first and then try to be a dungeon crawler but it sucks.

and yeah I saw Labyrinth Search: Dragon Princess, it looks interesting but I don't have any phone and not planning on getting one...

i've heard about sorcerer quite a bit but i hadn't paid attention to it because of the not owning iDevice. that one's definitely going into the new thread. it's not wizardry franchise, and it's not made by ex-wizardry developers, so it'll go into "turn-based dungeon-crawlers".

heh, speaking of phone 'crawlers there are some hirarious wizardry games called Wandroid that are touted as "wiz-clones" that i swear i still don't know whether they're malware or real games. they look atrocious.

oh, another turn-based dungeon crawler that was mentioned in this thread a few pages back is Dinosaur for PC. i've watched a complete playthrough of it on youtube and it is MOST DEFINITELY worthy. yet another one to add.

Compile Heart is not really good at mechanics, they should really stick to games like Neptunia; I wouldn't ever touch Moero Chronicle with a 10-foot pole. Speaking of imports, Dorarnae, how are the other Gen Xth games for the non-English user (if you've played them)? I.e me?

---

So the new thread would have the same format as this one right? Walkthrough, language, etc?

sure, but i'm always thinking of how to make it more presentable. heh, just moving the picture on top of the game information was such a huge improvement i felt so dumb for not doing it since the beginning. i also de-bolded the font.

Generation xth Code Realise might be a bit hard because you need to answer a riddle in the beginning in japanese. I had a wiki before but it's no longer working it seems. The remake (operation babel) kinda fix that though, you can select your answer. (could always use operation babel wiki I guess)

other than that, It's possible if you're patient I don't know much japanese, just hiragana and katakana. Katakana helps quite a bit for reading some skill name and few things in some game but other than that I don't really know any word...
also Code Realise only work in window mode for me, full screen doesn't seem to work.

have you already played some dungeon crawler in japanese or played the first game in english? When I got into elminage and Wizardry xth/other exp inc. crawler, I was new to the genre, damn it was rough in the beginning lol.

Elminage series is particularly easy to play in japanese because every item has a 2D art asset model of it when you inspect it which makes it as easy as pie to know what the fuck it is you're carrying around. Also elminage games aren't big on riddles whatsover; they're almost all about good old-fashioned maze-navigation and tricky dungeons. Unlike the XTH series you can basically ignore any NPC you come across. heh.

the wiz empire series is ALMOST as easy to play in japanese as Elminage with one very important caveat: you first have to play the MrRichard999/Helly english-translation of wiz-emp 2 for PC and familiarize yourself with the interface. Don't worry, the game is so long (and good!) that by the time you reach post-game you'll be able to do anything with your eyes closed.

after you're done with wiz-emp 2 in english you can easily play wiz-emp 1 and wiz-emp 3 because the layouts for everything are exactly the same and 90% of the items are the same.

another one you might want to give a go at is wiz-gaiden-6-prisoners-of-the-battles on ps2/iOS/PC. in-dungeon text is in japanese but: 1) the game is strictly classic wiz 1-5 style and i don't think there's a single NPC to talk to in the entire game; 2) the ENTIRE interface is english and i don't just mean the commands, i mean EEEEEVEEERYTHING. you just need to switch the language options in the settings menu.

Sounds doable, though I can barely stand reading other languages I somewhat know (like Spanish). I've played plenty of dungeon crawlers before, including the first Gen Xth, but I'm pretty much allergic to moonrunes. I could start learning, but I burn through my free-time enough as it is.

I'll just try and beat the games aweigh doesn't stop talking about before I get into the pure-Japanese games.

the other thing with generation xth that can be hard a little is the crafting, since you have to grab the junk and all the correct material to craft, so when you can read 'material' and 'metal' it helps.... with Operation babel you just need to select a junk item and it tells you how many material it takes and how many you have and can craft, don't need to grab everything...

operation babel has a VERY FAST combat lol. like a repeat last turn action instantly.

you're forgetting to mention that operation babel and operation abyss have neutered class systems tho.

Yup. When playing you can just feel something missing, it's so close to being fun but for some reason they decided to gut it out.

I'm thinking about buying the LE for Strangers in my Sword City, how long is it? Trying to justify a good chunk of money for the feelies. A wee bit desperate for some Vita crawling as well. Otherwise I'll jump to Dungeon Travelers 2, or Elminage Original.

I personally never changed class in the first two generation xth game, so I didn't even know you could keep the spell you learned and it is not needed.
then when you start code realized, you start with a new party and sub class is available. If I remember correctly, in Code realize the sub class doesn't level up at the same time, you have to do it separately.
In operation babel they changed it like labyrinth cross blood was, they both gain exp, sub gain less but it'll eventually lvl up.

stranger of sword city is maybe around 50-60 hours for the main story, and then maybe another 10-15 hours for post game. you can always do new game + and see the other ending.

i added the two recent releases of the labyrinth of souls series; both were released in 2011. they're in the OP. are those two entries the ones that you say are included in the PS3 perfect pack?

also here's the link to Javardry's website: https://translate.google.com.pr/tra...u.sakura.ne.jp/games/javardry.htm&prev=search

here is the link to the Testing Scenario meant to represent the editor's features: http://thu.sakura.ne.jp/games/down/Javardry01_v1004.zip

here is the link to the scenario editor; this requires a test scenario to be loaded first for easy editing: http://thu.sakura.ne.jp/games/down/Javardry_v0346.zip

here is the link to the manual: http://thu.sakura.ne.jp/games/down/JavardryManual_v0604.zip

Javardry
Javardry is Wiz clone made of Java. Of JavaScript made Wiz made in Oita previous Jsardry tried doing things you did not do it in, Toka in such a feeling. So Java, it is referred to as ...... move if even entered JavaVM. Mainly it is confirmation of the operation in the Windows 7 + JDK 8. It also confirmed that for the time being run on Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 + OpenJDK 7).
Largest selling Javardry is that you can build your own scenario in JavardryEditor. I do you say Speaking Toka Wiz Maker. It's not good in making scenario, I wanted to direct, and they Na or not me and the public to make someone good at people. However, the editor is very difficult to use. No, I'll be ok if you get used to it, maybe.
Wiz # 1 ~ # 3, Gaiden # 1 to # but with things like that is doing a two-I do ask them I can roughly, prima facie, leave roughly wrote such as that can be.

  • item
    • The type of the item is a weapon, armor, shield, helmet, gauntlets, boots, and other. You can create up to 10,000 maximum, but probably does not need so much.

Wizardry 'shadow of the red sister' was the dlc for the first game.
then Wizardry ghost town or whatever the name was. this was in 3 scenario.

the perfect pack included the first game with all it's dlc(shadow of the red sister, but even the training dungeon you had to pay a dlc to go deeper than 4th floor or something) and ghost town with the other 2 scenario.

here some info for both game.

I wonder if it would be possible to translate. it really look like a competent editor, can create your own race, class, spell, items, map (maps are easy to do, it's kinda like mapic, I just don't know how to ''save'' them for now), event on map....

hey man, keep at it. i believe in you! i also poked around in it and it is VASTLY superior to the Legacy Scenario Editor, although that one is much more user-friendly. and in english.

you can bang out a super complicated maze in Legacy in less than 1 hour. but it doesn't hold a candle to Javardry. try hitting up the website's forum.
