I realize that it is probably a long shot, but damn if she doesn't deserve it.

Grow up, D voters. She's a girl. Don't let her bait us into a fight we'll lose. Again.

Oh come on, she's asking for it. And she didn't even see 1/10th of our talents, we still have a lot of aces to play.
Edit:
Edit: And A voters, as interesting a read as it would be, sleeping with another man's wife would earn us a reputation hit and make us a mortal enemy of said man.
Only if he finds out. :M

The Harem King's love knows no bounds!
With our luck she'd get pregnant and rat us out.
You know, that sounds like the beginning of an awesome succession crisis, once we become Khagan.
Edit: and she won't tell on us, that would be admitting her own infidelity. More like her husband will suddenly get "lucky."

Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader comes to mind, where is the heir of Khagan answer me or die.
Sound like quite nice legend.

So 2C won? Ugh, come on Codex. Don't vote for unorthodox and then pussy out when it comes to actually making unorthodox choices. I didn't want to do the unorthodox path, but now that we started it I'm willing to stay consistent with those kinds of choices. I hope those of you who did vote for it can do the same.

A for first choice, and if it proves unpopular I'm willing to go with C.

I'm not willing to mess with Qilin. What makes you guys think she leaves her valuables unguarded. She could've laid some poison traps or her pet snake to guard her invitation. You want to risk that, go ahead and try steal it from her.

Honestly, I've given up worrying about our reputation in regards to orthodoxy. It seems like a bit of a lost cause right now. We should have gone from Orthodox to Unorthodoxy, not the other way around. Also, I don't know why you're voting for B if you're concerned about such things, whatever the Prefect would have us do, assuming he even accepts us, sounds like it would involve much shadier activity than a private tryst with a lovely old woman, and is much more likely to give us a bad reputation (I get the feeling in regards to reputation, it's working similarly to how it works in Age of Decadence)

Ditto bolded.

How the hell did BA4 not win, I thought it was quite far ahead?! Seriously, you people are the worst. "Oh let's be super cool and unorthodox BUT OH IN A TOTALLY UNORTHODOX FIGHT WHERE EVERYONE IS OUT FOR THEMSELVES LET'S TRUST OUR NEWEST FRIENDS"

Bleurgh.

Just because we're unorthodox, though, doesn't mean we have to be selfish, backstabbing, amoral, use poison and burn down villages for the lulz, a douche in other words, which I don't want to see Jing become.

Edit: I did completely derp on the last vote, though.

You mean, like poisoning a dinner banquet in Sumeria and slipping love potions to a king's daughters, that sort of douchebaggery? :troll:

In that case, why the heck didn't we go orthodox and train at Wudang back when we had the chance?? And now, Jing has to aspire to going to Wudang. Had the choice been made for Wudang in the first place, we wouldn't be in this situation. Not that I'm not enjoying myself doing all these amoral, backstabbing stuff. But kinda hard when no one else thinks that if we're gonna go unorthodox we might as well go full out.

Tigranes was right when he was arguing for 'tis easier to go from orthodox to unorthodox than vice-versa.

I got overly sentimental at the end and I had hoped that my BA4 would have won out in the end if AC did not. Damnit. I knew that BA4 would have been effective, I shouldn't have been swayed. Keep in mind that cheating in this competition, which was basically an open invitation to cheat anyways, is not really that immoral. Slightly dickish I guess, but the whole point here was to fuck with the rules.

I agree with Smashing Axe and Tigranes... partially. I don't think that the door has closed on gaining a good relationship with the orthodox sects by any means, but we shouldn't really worry too much about what they think either. We should look to make friends where we can, but we can't look at every situation as an "oh shit, if I do x, then the orthodox bros are going to think I'm an asshole and they won't ever invite me to their little clubhouse." We shouldn't think of making a good relationship with them as futile either, but first and foremost, we should be concerned with what we're doing, not what they think about us.

Oh, and going orthodox to unorthodox is much worse than the other way around. We'd be cast out as a traitor, that's far worse reputation wise than being an outcast from the beginning. The odd unorthodox guy might be trusted every now and then, but a guy who leaves his school to become an unorthodox martial artist who understands killing techniques will likely be hunted forever.

As for the choice here, I am still very reluctant to take part in the shady task that the prefect has. Robbing a girl who is probably far better at sneaking than we are is another bad idea. Considering the husband is gone, we should pay a visit to Jiang Du's house - he's a man of influence, so he might have guards, but we could have herbs to put some of the inhabitants there to sleep.

treave, do the Miao people have any techniques like the Yinglang Step, or is that something that we wouldn't know?

Flopped to E

Here, obviously
D for the lulz and because it won't win anyway.

I don't see why you guys are assuming that just because we have started being unorthodox that we must keep down the path. Some of us never asked for this anyway.

You don't know what techniques they might have, but you do know that the Miao people are sedentary and live mainly in the southern parts of the country, concentrated in Guizhou. Given that the girl seems to be some sort of poison specialist making her way alone without a chaperone (as far as you know), you can infer for yourself what type of skills she may have.

Nope, we didn't ask for this wanderer unorthodox path, but might as well enjoy ourselves, instead of making decision based on, as Esquilax so eloquently put it, what the orthodox bros think of us. None of that I want Jing to be a free wanderer learning martial arts from unorthodox people, BUT I want him to be a pure wanderer.

There are a lot of voters here, so it's understandable that there are going to be people that don't like the direction that the character is heading in. There are around 20 people pulling Jing in different directions that all think they have the right idea - really, I love hearing other people's ideas for the choices - but we should try to maintain some sort of consistency.

The orthodox/unorthodox choice at the beginning of the chapter was very polarizing and there are lots of pros and cons on each side. Nevertheless, I believe that our excursion in Songfeng was overall a great success: we offed a potential rival, gained prestige and forged the beginnings of the sword technique that will likely be our signature style (something, I should mention, that might not have been possible had we gone orthodox). And we got a little bonus from the Beggars too, so we did good there.

No matter what, regardless of whether you like the choice or not, you have to be true to the character and consistent. If you don't like that the character has gone unorthodox, you can't say "no fuck this, PLEASE TAKE ME BACK WUDANG BROS!!!" - you're just gonna have to go with it. We're an unorthodox guy who fortunately hasn't made any mortal enemies yet - it's only a matter of time before the Emei are on to us - but while unorthodoxy doesn't necessitate alienating every civilized person out there by doing things that would make Dio look like a saint in comparison, at the same time, our priority is us.

We'll try to make friends and contacts of course, but overall, constantly worrying about whether people will like us will fuck us over hard. Ultimately we didn't care if the Songfeng academy liked us or not, but it turned out that doing the thing we wanted to do as opposed to the popular thing gave us the victory.

Depends, if we make the right/wrong people hate us, that can bite us in the ass too: case in point, the prefect. I already stated why I don't think going down that road is wise, it will simply put us in a position where we'll have to decide whom we piss off, the Proprietress of the Manor or the Prefect and both of them are pretty damn powerful people that can make our life difficult. The Manor because they have people from all walks of life and all corners of the world participating in their brotherhood and thus a large network; and the Prefect because he is a politician of one of the most important cities in the region and thus will have a lot of pull (what do you think will happen when we don't hold up our end of the bargain?), causing problems for us wherever we go.

This Miao girl is good, yeah, but not automatically better than us in every department, remember that she did get the drop on us when we were beaten up and exhausted, in a crowd of people. If anything, I think A and D are better options than B because they are less likely to put us in a difficult situation later down the line. That, and taking her invitation just removes her from the competition later on, making thing easier for us.

For sure, it's a balancing act. We shouldn't put ourselves in positions where we piss off people that can make our lives extremely difficult, which is why B seems like it could be a bad idea - we might be placed in a situation where we have to divide our loyalties - but at the same time, a situation like the one we were in, where cheating was pretty much a given and the contestants were mostly nobodies (if they were important, they wouldn't be there), where there was nothing that immoral going on apart from a little harmless hustling, is the sort of situation where we shouldn't be giving a fuck about what people think.

But yeah, I'm totally with you on either picking A or D. I've flopped to D since it's more likely to win and our Yinglang Step might give her some surprises.

Yeah, lets take on the girl who kicked our ass again. That's reeeeal likely to succeed. Codex doesn't know when it's beat it seems. :/

Yeah, we got our ass handed to us, limping our exhausted ass through a street and suddenly a random chick jumps on you and distracts you with sexy. She took us completely off guard, but in doing so showed us most, if not all, her tricks. Conversely, she saw none of ours.

Now it's our turn to get back at that tease.

If your motive is a harem it's probably better to not antagonize her by attempting to take her invitation, giving you an opportunity to work with her and increase possible interaction at the manor later on.

Just saying.
