You fucking sphere diplomats throwing old Wrinkly, and by association Rain and everyone around him, into the pits

This is a literally Miltiades deal. We are not in any immediate danger. We're not in a desperate situation where there's no other choice but to grasp at straws. We're literally a ten year old on a sidequest where we just got a cool new astra and we're zooming away to safety. There is NO sane reason to accept some offer by a dangerous demon just because the demon told you you'll need to accept it.

Here, you are sitting in your room in complete safety. A demon comes to you and says, "just cut off your dick for me and I shall give you great power, and you will totally need this great power because I predict you will be in deep shit 20 years later!" You have NO reason to believe this motherfucker, but you're pulling your pants down going "have at thee upon my rod".

You are voting to sell Wrinkly's soul away just because. Why are we suddenly throwing the LP down the shitter?

You'd rather wait until we're in deep shit? How about get some life insurance *before* we need it, not after.

There needs to be less dramatism about it. That isn't even a choice that would kill us.
And we don't know what we are selling away. Souls are overrated anyway.
Not to mention the example doesn't work. We aren't cutting off a rod, we are getting ourselves another one. A longer one at that. Some would say it's a bargain!

Seriously, though, there is a certain appeal in playing an agent of Chaos (there always are a couple of Codexers waiting in the wings to stir things up) and working for Sauron to protect what is dear to you, and let the rest of the world burn. Power is power!

It isn't quite my kind of appeal... at least not yet, but it is a valid path to walk.

yes, lovely
but do these kind of powers come with no price attached?
did Rain just give away her astra to protect us, leaving her completely defenseless?
or did she pour her life-force into the spell, perishing in the process?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
If that was actually Rain giving us HER astra, that's so touching. And you assholes want to sacrifice her.

Of course there's a price attached, he outright says it:
But if you grasp that spear now, you can overcome that future before it ever comes to pass.

Uridimmu grins; the pale glinting fangs are all you can see.

But I will not lie. You may have a different regret instead.
The may part could imply that Lambchop is right, and the price may not be too bad, depending on how we use the spear.

He (seemingly) has the capability to divine a person's fate. He is amused with ours and, seemingly out of respect and/or boredom, offers us assistance against a threat that we won't be able to defeat otherwise. This is pretty standard for a god's modus operandi, really.

There's obviously a hidden cost and agenda involved my guess is that the spear will funnel souls to Uridimmu, thereby strengthening him. Maybe he will attempt to mind control or corrupt us, but I think we'll be able to come out ahead of those with our stats.

If that was actually Rain giving us HER astra, that's so touching. And you assholes want to sacrifice her.
Uh, what? We had that locket with us ever since we picked her up.

Do note that I'm voting 1A for the lulz atm, and will probably flop to 1B if it starts winning.

What if this dog just wants to be our friend?
This is a very good point. It is known that all dogs are extremely good bois at heart. If we show him love and affection, Uridimmu will come around in no time.

And just how good are these drugs? Find out next time on The Tower.

Bx. Its too early to derail this cyoa. I bet we will have numerous opportunities in the future.
It's never too early to derail a CYOA. It's only too early to dead-end it. Honestly CYOAs tend to be more fun when you go off the beaten path a little. Do it, man. Get lost in the deeps and find yourself armed with a god-demon spear in your right, a holy shield in your left, wondering "how the hell did I end up here and what the fuck is that thing I'm up against?"

This. I want this one to go on and have a reasonably successful career like Jing or Ean. Would they have randomly signed a blood pact giving their soul away to a demon when not in any immediate need / danger, only as a 'just in case I need it later' deal?
We are not trying to be Jing or Ean though. We want to have a different breed of successful career. Also, the demon in question is known for its honesty. We should take the warning that we would end up having to accept its aid in desperation rather seriously.

His predicted future is implied to be bad. As in BAD bad. Bad enough that we would have to contact a demi(?) god like him in the first place out of desperation.

Doubt it. I will only flop to A if Uridimmu reenacts this tiktok.
This is also a very important point.

treave, I want to ask the Great Uridimmu a question before we accept the sphere spear and he disappears: will he, the Great Uridimmu, Master of the Black Pyramid, as a show of his good faith and intentions allow us to pet him? It can be of any form he demands, a muzzle stroke, belly rub, etc... Establishing the symbolic bond between Man and Hound through this time-honored ritual is paramount if we are to engage in a business relationship with his esteemed personage.

I'm actually kinda serious about this, bro.

Edit: let's roll a d20, like we did with old man Yang when we showed him the Ashina talisman. Have some fun with it, yeah?

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
He (seemingly) has the capability to divine a person's fate.

Or he just think that someone who has fought a part of him and is taking part in shady rituals is leading a risky and adventurous life. More like deduction than divination

I won't really flop even if the dog demon acts really cute since that'd be dumb, I just wanted an excuse to post that Tik Tok.

Sure, we could play such a character. But imagine reading a book where you have a 10 year old kid like Wrinkly who just randomly sells his soul to the demon for no immediate reason. Is he in the midst of a war or other crisis with civilisation tumbling down? Is he a born sociopath? Is he out on a quest for revenge from some traumatic event? (He might later find out more info about his past, but he doesn't know a thing right now.) Is he someone who feels abandoned and mistreated by the world to the point that he wants to let it all burn?

No, there's nothing of that. Wrinkly right now doesn't have the faintest of motivation. On the contrary, every time when strange powers sought to intimidate or disorient him, he kept a cool head and refused to be suckered in. He focused on protecting himself and Sophie against John Bull, and he plucked Rain out of danger.

I'm totally fine to play an evil, depraved, sociopathic, or whatever character, or to make wicked deals and play out the consequences. But the choice right now offered is so out of the blue with no good reason to take it.

Exactly, and if we were playing that kind of character we should have let our master sell Rain in the first place. That was a defining personality decision for our character.

I don't agree with this interpretation, but I do agree with the sentiment. I think the question Wrinkly would ask himself is this: 'do I trust Uridimmu's word?' And I think that we should, given the background information we collected outside of the game.

But if we don't accept the nice puppy's offer here and now, then no biggie, we might get a second chance later, when things are desperate and the anti-fun brigade has no choice. I'll get my puppy in the end.

Arguments, arguments.

I go with my instincts, guys, and my instincts say that the doggy can be trusted.

Dude, fuck this demon. What would our elf baby think? We gotta, like, settle an example.

BC.
While I care about Rain, a woman just needs to accept that there's a special bond between a man and his dog. :shittydog:

I said the same shit about John Bull and y'all were ready to crucify me. I ended up being right in the end, so maybe y'all should go with my instincts instead?

No, no, no. Clearly, my instincts that are the most correct of all, everyone should listen to me instead.

You're talking about surface level narrative motivations like you'd see in an anime or TV show.

This is slightly deeper. This is about a kid who has had to fight tooth and nail against impossible odds fro day one finally getting an offer at REAL POWER.

The power to fight creatures that had previously outclassed him and WIN. The power to protect the ones he cares about or to save whomever needs saving.

If you're looking for a narrative motive, that's it.

However, I don't say that we should pick it for that reason.

I say we should pick it because I like the doggy. :shittydog:

Uh, John Bull wanted to murder us and eat our brains with a side of fava beans...

Doggy is just lonely and wants us to bring him some snacks. :shittydog:
