I don't play ultimatum, but I pity players who rope out of spite. Their lives must be so uneventful that they're ok in wasting time for something so petty.

burned through cash on quickdrafts and opened all my packs. 30+ packs gave me very little mystical archive stuff when compared to drafts. Got 3x tendrils of agony... kind of leading me where to go from here

I did play (and lose) against a Mind's Desire deck, and the deck was good, but it was primarily an Emergent Ultimatum deck that uses Mind's Desire as one of the Ultimatum targets. Still it does seem that Ultimatum/ Mind's Desire/ Tendrils/ Mizzix's Mastery/ Faithless Looting forms a solid core for a synergistic deck that wins by resolving any single one of the big spells.

Damn, just damn. Tiamat is going to be all over Brawl, like you cast Tiamat, you fucking win the game, you play Tiamat you play 5 other dragons.

All the AFR cards seem awesome.

4 AFR Commander Decks at Strixhaven Commander 2021 levels.

20 AFR basic lands with flavour text.

Halflings are new MtG creature type. Halfling Citizen should kill the rumour the party mechanic is returning.

I was right about Dragon Tribal.

Another historic anthology on the 27th, too. Seems a little fast but eh. Unfortunately I haven't been getting many gems in draft this time since I've only finished 2 whole drafts since Strix launched. Been busy as absolute shit and leaning on other games and just barely keeping ahead of dailies on MTGA. Strix limited seems pretty good but with everything going on I just haven't been in the mood to play much limited lately. Suppose people will be happy about fetches being in Modern Horizons 2, too. Fortunately not really a concern of mine since I'm an Arena baby and fuck physical card prices, but that's nice for physical players.

modern horizons wont be released on arena right?

Another historic anthology on the 27th, too.
and jumpstart june 4th. They are picking up the pace, looks like it will dwarf last summer. No info about how will jumpstart look like though, if its exactly the same it might not be worth it for me.
Will probably have to do unthinkable and spend gems on anthology for the first time. Looks like it will be already better than 4th one with cool mythic slot.

cant say that you earn many gems in drafts this time around. Waaaaay to many juicy rares

interesting that this article doesnt say anything about incoming historic brawl. I must say I did lose a bit of joy with this format, waiting for 100 cards one that they hinted some time ago

Modern Horizons probably won't be on Arena since they originally said the goal was to work toward making historic into pioneer. They've added some non-pioneer stuff to it though so lord knows if they go crazy and add MH2 anyway. I'd assume Jumpstart's just a repeat of the first set since I haven't heard anything about a new pile of Jumpstart cards. They apparently completely fucked paper players and didn't print near enough to satisfy demand so they're just having it playable in Arena again so people can enjoy it, I guess. It does seem like it's a bit harder to get a playable deck in Strix when you're raredrafting, cobbled together some shit and scrape together a few wins but have yet to have one feel like a functional deck. That's why I always like phantom drafting more when it comes to actually playing limited but it always feels like they overcharge for it given the rewards. It'd be nice if they had phantom drafts like the leagues or whatever, 500 gold and 3 uncommon ICRs as the prize and say 250 gold if you make it half way. Don't care about going infinite in phantom drafting, just wish it was dirt cheap and something you play for fun.

Squeezed a 7-2 run out of a simic draft splashing red for that izzet command. Didn't expect it to work but as it turns out ramping is pretty decent with 3 bombs (One of those 3/1 fliers with ward and 2 of the vortex-whatevers that are 3/3 unblockables with 8+ land). And on top of all that Zimone was an absolute fucking beast. Drew so goddamn many cards off her it was nuts, and I had that creature-doubling instant in simic so I could either duplicate one of my bombs or Zimone so I had a decent stack of targets beyond just doubling a frog or whatever.

Drafted up a golgari deck now which I don't have terribly high hopes for but the cards look fun so it should be a hoot. Actually got the pest-buffing mythic late in the draft but unfortunately I didn't get loaded with pest cards so he won't be THAT good, but eh.

what r u guys doing for historic brawl?
nothing, for first time actually.
It cost a bit too much, id rather spend money on quick draft.

jumpstart was best card making thing with at least 1 rare per 500g spent(provided you are not near completion).
current begdraft gets close to that

Honestly I'm saving up for as much AFR quick draft as possible, I even saving Strixhaven mastery Premier Draft token for AFR.

I like the weird looting art. It'd bug me if that art was commonplace but it's nice to have some weird shit in MTG art again.

Managed to squeeze in some drafts over the weekend (Still not as much as I'd like) and I officially decree Strix to be okay. Kaldheim really pushed my buttons in limited but Strix is solid. Might be better if I wasn't tainted by the desire to raredraft but even with the taint it's enjoyable, and I usually creep near 10 rares/mythics per draft. To be fair I haven't cracked any regular Strix packs yet so I'm not sure the rare score for that since you can get extra rares in the archive slot and (Apparently) you can end up with extra rares in the lesson slot since rare/mythic lessons don't count toward the regular pack's rare. Not sure how that works for MTGA's smaller pack sizes though. Picked up 2 inquisitions, 1 brainstorm, and 0 looting so far.

Code experimentaloverload for 2000 XP because MTGA was running like shit.

didnt think of it much but its growing on me
Seems kinda cool. Cheap casting cost, cheap equip cost, and then if you have fucktons of mana you can force unfavorable blocks or lose the game. Still probably not good enough for constructed since it'd be too slow but it's neat.

black devotion decks with nyx lotus could reach that easilly while driving value.

True I 'spose, but if you're going for black devotion I'd think you'd be arguably better off going for underworld dreams and whatever-the-abyss. Vorpal sword getting cockblocked by artifact removal and (Most easily) creature removal, while the other combo only gets cockblocked by enchantment removal and counterspells. Though it's possible you could be running both together instead of dipping in to shit like gray merchant. A more proactive black devotion deck with both the combo and vorpal sword as multiple finishers.

Finally got a spicy meatball of a deck AND was a dirty raredrafter. Currently 4-0 with it which is highly unsurprising, 6 evasive finishers in the vortex runners and waterfall aerialists (People must be grossly undervaluing vortex runner since it gets passed by the bots constantly) and then occasionally wins with some fat regular beatsticks from leyline invocation and/or pledgemage, and then a few cards to help ramp up into the expensive shit. The weak point is obviously removal but you end up being the aggressor a lot and/or stonewalling and letting the evasive shit close it out. Only drawback is it isn't as fun to play as janky golgari stuff.
:bounce:

Edit: Though looking at it there I probably should replace charge through with solve the equation or something. Charge through's alright just to cantrip and thin the deck and work as a trigger for the pledgemages, but solve the equation would probably be a flat out better option for vaguely similar use.
