Hey I just reinstalled. Which constructed format is actually worth playing?
Did rotation already hit? I uninstalled a week or so ago so can't be bothered to tell. If Bo1 queue it's all about red prowess, humans and red white convoke... means that's pretty much the same degenerate shit as before rotation
- going first wins, especially if its an aggro deck, unless they get fucked by a bad mulligan. The game degenerates into a coinflip.
This advantage of going first only gets exacerbated in timeless formats and all the solitare combos with no interaction that take 10 minutes to come through are still there.
You also need more rares and mythics to compete.
I wouldn't play Alchemy (but that's me, perhaps that's actually your jam) because the format is not paper-compatible and they diddle with card text for "balance",
not that I care about paper MTG, but I especially loathe it when you can no longer rely on how a card functions.
So, in my opinion, while post rotation standard should be a bit healthier, whatever you decide to play, it should be geared towards Bo3. This gives you a slightly better meta, because the decks that just shit out cards
with no interaction and basically win or lose by turn 4 are no longer viable. You will also get better opponent quality and and better game quality overall.
One disadvantage here is it no longer does any land smoothing, so be prepared to mulligan more often as no-land and all-land hands will start to appear.
Games will also take significantly longer, so it's no longer something you can easily play on the shitter.
I would still look into limited, IMO pretty much all the recent sets were really enjoyable to draft and if you're just starting out, this negates your cardpool disadvantage.
