What is the right you're talking about? As I said, only the most casual people play it. I just checked it and of my Steam friends these people play this game:

- a canadian who usually plays sports games
- a RPGMaker and silly games fan
- a literal american tranny, tf2 fan (and some other mmos as well as apparently paradox)
- CS2/CoD/Paladins fan (the last one is apparently some superhero pvp too)
- past real friend who was always a casual overwatch/tf2 fan
- another overwatch fan
- and last but not least skyway (what the fuck?)

Surprising, it sounds like Paste-Pot Pete, probably better known as Trapster, is getting added to the game. Maybe not totally surprising since he’s been in some Fantastic Four shows, and is a Marvel character with a gun, but he’s also a lesser know Marvel character too. I don’t know, maybe he’ll be in that upcoming Fantastic Four movie for a bit.

That has to be bait to misdirect people or they are just picking literal who villain's becasue every most known unknown capeshit characters always get listed on youtube shorts for all the normies to act like true fans of.

My guess would be that he was picked because it’s a third person shooter and in the comics he’s got a weird glue gun that could offer some interesting gameplay possibilities. He could function has almost an alternative version of Spider-Man, since his glue gun in the comics can do similar things to Spider-Man’s webbing.

But like I said, I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out later that he’s some minor character in that upcoming Fantastic Four movie that comes out this year. He’s one of the original Frightful Four, so it wouldn’t be crazy if he had a minor villain role like Shocker, Crossbones, and Batroc the Leaper have had in the MCU.

But Paste-Pot Pete has a weird novelty gun that he uses to swing around places and glue people into place.

And, again, his upcoming inclusion is probably synergy with the upcoming Fantastic Four movie that comes out this summer. From what I’ve seen of the free-to-play Marvel iOS games, they seem to line up character releases that way to a certain extent and I wouldn’t really expect this F2P game to do things all that differently either. Like I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole Dracula thing they’re doing now is because at one point there was meant to be a Blade movie coming out this year, and back in November of 2023 that Blade movie was meant to be coming out next month before being pushed back to November.

As far as X-Men related characters go, I think Cyclops, Colossus, Phoenix, Emma Frost, Professor X, and Deadpool were all leaked at different points. There’s also a Locus character in the leak that is most likely X-Men related.

If Locus is the ‘90s X-Force villain her comic costume was basically Jean Grey’s ‘90s costume in a different color. If you were to follow that same design philosophy for a video game, you could easily have a Locus model by swapping the head and coloring her differently. That about the only reason I can think that they’d add her at this point... she’d be another character with a teleporting power, and they can alter Jean Grey’s ‘90s costume to make a character model.

It's nice. Admittedly the genre isn't exactly my cup of tea but it is refreshing to see a game put conventionally attractive characters front and centre again. Hopefully it encourages more development teams to step up and stop pushing dysgenic and subversive character designs.

Well assuming those constant updates last 3 years before slowing down, that's only 24 characters. Just off the top of my head, here’s 15 that would not be crazy at all.

1. Human Torch
2. The Thing
3. Blade
4. Dracula (he's in the plot and "vampire" is such an easy power set to make fun)
5. Dr. Doom (he’s going to be playable eventually)
6. Spider-Man (Miguel, since 2099 is a major part of the plot and hes already had multiple games showing he can be mechanically distinct from Peter)
7. Deadpool
8. Daredevil
9. Hawkeye
10. Power Pack
11. Ghost Rider
12. Juggernaut
13. Cable
14. some Spider-man foe (Rhino, Shocker, Electro, etc.)

They still have like 150 or 160 known named characters they can put in. They could release four new characters every month for the first three years and still have known named characters they can add. They’re not in any danger of running out of characters people want.

Marvel Rivals will likely have the opposite problem. At a certain point people are going to be like: It’s been *blank* amount of time already and *such and such* character still isn’t in the game yet. The honeymoon period is still going, so people aren’t going to be pissy about Paste-Pot Pete or some Marvel character with a Hulu show like Hit-Monkey; but at a certain point people will start getting bitchy about some well know X-Men related character, Spider-Man character, or MCU character not being there if someone nobody knowns like Doctor Mindbubble gets in. Like at a certain point, the obscure oddball picks are going to have to be really weird stuff that could also make for interesting gameplay like Ruby Thursday, Madcap, and Slapstick if they’re still pulling those while more well known characters aren’t there.

The Big Hero 6 characters seem to be in a weird situation where I’m not sure they’ve shown up in anything Marvel related since the Disney branded Big Hero 6 movie. That said, they’ve got more than enough characters that people would know from movies, cartoons, other video games, and when people actually read Marvel comics.

Marvel Rivals also isn’t just picking characters people know though. Jeff the Land Shark is from a comic nobody read, and the comic was so dumb the people that did read it didn’t come away as fans of the character. Squirrel Girl was like a meme in the late 2000s and very early 2010s, but her comic sold for fucking shit by the time it came out. Luna Snow is a character created by Netmarble for their Marvel: Future Fight game so there would be a South Korean character for their South Korean audience; and I’m not sure most Marvel fans (movie or comics) outside of South Korea knew who she was until now. Cloak and Dagger is one of those Marvel characters most comic fans probably know of, but has never taken off in the 42 years they’ve been around; there was a Freeform (the form Family Channel that at different times had ABC and FOX before the name) show but nobody watched it really.

Nothing in the leaks really stands out as odd beside maybe Locus. Jia Jing is probably there because she’s a Chinese Marvel character and NetEase is a Chinese studio and the want a Chinese character in the game. I’m guessing “girl with bug wings” is an aesthetic someone at NetEase likes, because they added Pixie to their Marvel Super Wars game and they hadn’t exactly exhausted the most well known X-Men in that game from the looks of it. Paste-Pot Pete is probably there because of the Fantastic Four movie. Hit-Monkey, who had a Hulu show, is a monkey hitman. The Hood is going to be part of that upcoming Ironheart Disney+ show that comes out this year. Marvel Comics may not have any idea what to do with Angela, but she was a Spawn character, meaning she was one of the biggest comic book characters in one of the biggest comics when comics were there biggest.

Looking at Marvel Super Wars I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hulkbuster shows up as its own character. Looking at the characters NetEase put in their Super Wars game, and the costumes they picked for them, might be a good indication of future Rivals stuff.

If you don’t think two of the main characters from the hit Spider-Verse movies are popular, you’re a fucking moron. Millions of people have seen those movies, they’re hugely popular, the comics side of things as far as those characters are concerned doesn’t never kind of matter at all.

If a Marvel character has been in a hit movie, in a popular show, in some beloved video game, or was a hit comic books in the ‘90s they’re a popular character and people will want to see them in the game.

Used to like overwatch back in the day so against my better judgement gave this FOTM stuff a try even though Marvel gives me the 'ick.

And yeah, it's like when overwatch was fun, so having a good time even if there is no direct mercy analogue, healers are both stronger then what i'm used to yet require more work because of it (maybe jeff is the exception? no ressource management or aim required to heal with him but the tradeoff is he is not as efficient at healing people fast when needed).

Currently locked down Invisible Girl as my main and comfort pick (i guess i have a thing for hot blonde healer women with an escape tool or ability to elude people trying to enrich them?), she can heal decently and has some nice utility and cc.
Sadly with the grindy way you earn currency, not likely to get the gooner skin, or any other skin, anytime soon.

In non support roles still testing around but find captain america really fun to use.

You’re fucking retarded if you think all those people in love with Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse don’t like Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey. Because of those movies, at the moment Miles Morales is probably one of the more popular Marvel characters. The comics don’t matter, they’re big because of the movies.

Julia Carpenter was huge in the ‘90s. I’m also not sure why you’re talking about story, we’re talking about characters being put into the third person shooter action video game Marvel Rivals, not them trying to tell some story with her. She’s a Secret Wars character that was popular throughout the ‘90s, if you read comics in the ‘80s and ‘90s you likely know who she is and might be a fan. She was also a character (because of Force Works) in the ‘90s Iron Man cartoon.

The reason Jessica Drew was an Avenger during the New Avengers run is because their was nostalgia for Jessica Drew, and seems to be a character Brian Michael Bendis likes. I doubt she gets added anytime soon, but she is a known quantity more than most Marvel characters; she has fans, her classic design is cool, and she’s been a playable character in other video games like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

Or I saw that people went crazy for the glorified cameo of a character who was in a one-shot+a few cameos in a terrible event while completely ignoring the lead character (there's a reason she's already in this game). Nobody gives a shit about Miles outside of woketards, even after Disney has spent billions trying to get people to care.
