Id just play the game now, in a year id say a majority of the guys praising it will have either forgot about it or demonize it when the devs start to focus more on esports balancing. The youtube game is just circlejerking whatever popular opinion is and since marvel rivals is considered good by the masses thats all you see now.

This kind of game isn't for me, and I disagree with the YouTuber that the designs are lovely. Looks too much like a fucking modern anime, especially the faces.

So much truth.

Is this the new "Palworld will dominate the industry"?

Definitely the new Overwatch. Palworld was a flash in the pan. If Nintendo didn't start all that legal drama it would have mostly been forgotten by now, lol.

I wonder if the playerbase of Rivals will still exist in 6 months. Overwatch is 8 years old and going strong.

Unless they make some unforeseeable change down the road that drives people away it should keep doing well. I’d also expect Marvel Rivals to get character updated far more frequently than Overwatch ever did, which will continuously give the player base new characters to try out and spend money on.

Might be interesting to see what Blizzard does because of Marvel Rivals, seems like pretty soon Rivals will have a larger roster of characters despite Overwatch being an eight year old game.

Chink devs are work horses as apparently we are getting 2 more new heroes and a battlepass in January 2025 and 3 new maps.

Seeing as how also hero development is arguably streamlined with the designs/characters already existing it eliminates a part of dev time

Outside of the MCU costumes, the character designs in Marvel Rivals are about as already existing as the ones in Overwatch.

As an example, here’s Doctor Strange’s God of Magic alt in Marvel Rivals, and here’s the comic costume it says it’s based on:

marvel-rivals-the-comic-book-origins-of-the-games-unlockable_w6fz.jpg

The Marvel Rivals costumes may as well say “based on” when saying the comics they appear in for as little as they have to do with the costume from the actual comics. They’re largely all original costumes.

I doubt it gets balanced for esports. It seems like Asian developers might be over chasing that particular dragon. The money isn’t in the competitive market, so that’s not the market NetEase of all developers is going to go after. If it’s big a competitive scene could grow around it, but catering specifically to the competitive market has always been stupid.

Lol of course he had to bring Palworld into the discussion and how developers X, Y and Z "understand what consumers want".

A Marvel hero shooter made by NetEase is the new counterculture.

Edit: he also compared Rival's artstyle to... the Spiderverse movies. Lol.

esports bubble has burst in the past 2 - 3 years with the scene usually propped by online gambling (not like gacha, literal actual gambling) today

The only esports that is actually legitimate is probably only smaller scene like Fighting Games or League of Legends. But even this LoL has agreed to add betting sponsor starting 2025. The money for esports has drained with most venture failing. FG is still relevant but FG esports is not hundred million dollar industry

No reason to invest in esports scene these days

I could see them being referenced now, and introducing adult version of Franklin Richards and Rachel Summers sometime in the future.

Turns out she's explicitly identified as "Susan Storm" in further preview media, meaning they're not even married. That's strange given how mature Reed looks and how the X-Men use the very modern cancer of Krakoa.

4chan/codex/kiwi farms - Heh super hero shit is dying, the MCU is dying, quippy dialogue is finally being called out, comics will be dead by 2025 as manga overtakes the industry why would this live service slop shooter made by the chinks do anything - :smug:

4chan/codex/kiwi farms when they see Psylockes Ass in a F2P live service matching making only multiplayer shooter made by China/Tencent - :yeah:
something has to fill that Overwatch void I guess...

She’s always referred to as Sue Storm or Susan Storm.

The X-Men don’t use the Krakoa language if that’s what you’re talking about. Only Magneto does, which actually makes sense for him given he’s a super villain racist mutant extremist. The X-Men all have their names written in English and in the case of Magik Russian. Wolverine is also still name Logan in Marvel Rivals, so I guess he’s in his pre Origins place in the game.

I mean their profiles mention the island, which was only a thing in the 80s and only a major plot point in the 2010s. The F4 first appeared in 61, the two were married in 1965 and Franklin was born in 1968.

Yeah, regardless, the Invisible Woman is always called Sue Storm. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone refer to the character as Sue Reed. Her last name being Storm doesn’t mean anything, because she’s still called that post marriage.

I have a vague memory of her being referred to as Susan Storm Richards.

I am not some hardcore FF fanboy but as far as I remember Sue has generally been referred to as Sue Storm even though she had been married and had children. They might have used Strom Richards in a comic or two but that would have been the exception not the rule.

Mary Jane on the other had was generally called Mary Jane Watson Parker before OMD

BTW introducing the FF in a vampire/Dracula themed season is a pretty weird choice

Surprising, it sounds like Paste-Pot Pete, probably better known as Trapster, is getting added to the game. Maybe not totally surprising since he’s been in some Fantastic Four shows, and is a Marvel character with a gun, but he’s also a lesser know Marvel character too. I don’t know, maybe he’ll be in that upcoming Fantastic Four movie for a bit.

I've been binging this for a few days now and been having a lot of fun. Solo queue in an MP game is practically unheard of for me these days. The hero roster is impressive, I haven't played even half of them yet and each one has more depth to it than what I remember of the ones from Overwatch. The combo mechanic adds even more consideration. Luna Snow, Mantis and Venom are the ones I play the most.

Don't read comics, haven't watched any Marvel movies and I knew maybe half of the characters beforehand. Multiverse save the world nonsense exits through the other ear. I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say including attractive female characters immediately improves my opinion of your game and is like a breath of fresh air every time. That applies to nearly every one in this game, it's just Mantis who looks odd (I guess designing good bug girls takes a specific skillset) and Storm would literally be fixed with a different hairstyle. Her store skin makes it even worse somehow.

My only real complaint concerns the performance. It's not the worst UE5 offering in that regard, but that is like rating the consistency of diarrhea. It can get real stuttery at times and then be fine again. I'm not so esports brained as to drag all the sliders to the minimum, upscaling from 1080p is about my limit.

Turning down that resolution metric that goes 0 to 100, straight to 0, immediately fixed most of my framerate issues.
