Yeah, Richard Garriott has been taking interviews and appearances anywhere he can get his face lately. It's weird seeing him so much after this long.

It's going to be horrible watching this interview. Take the Father of the Ultima series, then reboot the franchise by smearing social element feces all over it, and see him be all excited about it. D:

Matt is a good interviewer so maybe we can get actually something out of the interview, probably at least part of the interview will be on Origin days.

Then why has there been no Garriott appearance on RPGCodex yet? :troll:

Very good interview, Matt. By far the best I've seen of RG during his recent kickstarter interview craze. You came across like one of the first interviewers to have any real knowledge of Ultima or the way a good one would be.

Nice interview but I'm still not sold on Shroud of the Avatar at all.

Yeah. I watched 20 minutes of it so far. He never actually explains WHY social shit actually makes a BETTER cRPG. It DOES make a better game for his company (micro-transactions) but not why it makes a better cRPG.

I liked his idea for the journal that lists the player's activities in the world. I thought it was a good compromise.

Matt Chat 188: Joel Billings on the Fall of SSI
Published on Mar 31, 2013
In the final part of my interview with SSI president Joel Billings, we chat about how his company collapsed despite the success of Panzer General. Joel recounts the troubles he had with Electronic Arts, and why the decision to sell out to Mindscape ultimately proved his undoing.

As you all know, I'm obviously not Matt Barton, but I'd like to present you his lates book:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/1466567538/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_dp_34oxrb197302T

  1. John Romero
  2. Rebecca Heineman
  3. Tim Cain
  4. Brian Fargo
  5. Chris Avellone
  6. Chris Taylor
  7. Howard Scott Warshaw
  8. Jon Hare
  9. Ralph Baer
  10. David Fox
  11. George "The Fat Man" Sanger
  12. Mark Soderwall
  13. Megan Gaiser & Robert Riedl
  14. Paul Reiche III & Fred Ford
Count me in!

Not really something I'm interested in buying, but I definitely don't begrudge Matt trying to make a couple bucks off it. Just like I'm all for his asking for donations at the end of a show. Matt's interviews are pretty unique and a hell of a lot of fun, and more meaningful and interesting than just let's play videos or something. He sorta reminds me of a videogame version of Stanley Wiater and his "Dark Dreamers" interviews with people involved in horror writing/movies/shows (Which incidentally was a lot of fun to watch. I'd recommend it if you wanna scrounge up a copy).

That said, I'd totally be interested in a full Matt Barton let's play. Not at the expense of any of his other videos of course, but if he ever gets a wild hair up his ass to talk about and record himself playing through one of his favorite games I'd most likely watch all the rat-killing he could throw at me.
