Lately, I’ve been having some thought-provoking discussions on Twitter about internet anonymity, mostly in the context of the infamous RPG Codex.

I was relentlessly bullied all throughout my “formative years” of high school. I’m used to the idea of someone hating and wanting to hurt me for no reason other than to make themselves feel good.

But, anyway, Many of my friends on the RPG Codex come from much different backgrounds than me, especially those from Eastern Europe. They’ve told me that in their countries, just saying some bad things about the government can easily get you killed.
Ok, step right up, who is this poor soul?

What is wrong with you americans? We had some fights as kids in the school , but it seem this level of bullying always happens in the US.

Well I live in the US and honestly I've never been bullied or even seen bullying in my life and I went to 5 schools in my life (not counting college which I'm currently in). I'm not denying it happens but it's not everywhere. It's just that the worst examples always get out.

That would actually be pretty neat. Bethesda may churn out low-brow games that contribute to the decline of computer gaming, but as a person, Todd Howard seems like a really swell guy.

Hate the sin, not the sinner!

"Tell us about your relationship with one Cleveland M. Blakemore." +M

Matt could also ask why nobody has been able to put up a decent Wizardry-esque Kickstarter.

Matt interviewing Brenda Romero...and Garriot, AGAIN: http://mattchat.us/?p=619

Hi, all. I’m interviewing two awesome people tomorrow: Brenda Romero and Richard Garriott. Brenda (formerly Brenda Brathwaite) is probably best known for her work on the Wizardry series, though she’s also done some work on sex in games (yeah, thought that might get your attention). She’s also the wife of the most popular Matt Chat guest of all time, Mr. John Romero.

I interviewed Richard (aka Lord British) for Matt Chat already, but now I’m chatting with him for an upcoming issue of Retro magazine. I don’t want to rehash the same old stories, so let me know what thoughts you have for questions.

The Book is Here: Vintage Game Consoles

book you wrote for the first time. Usually, it’s bittersweet–you always feel that there was more work to do, and plenty of parts you aren’t happy with. You brace yourself for the inevitable scathing reviews, and just hope that those are balanced out by people who appreciate what you tried so hard to accomplish. Above it all, though, is the simple fact that you’re now holding something in your hand that was all just thoughts in your head and bits floating around in cyberspace just a few days before.

I tried to do something with Vintage Game Consoles that I hadn’t done before, at least in terms of game history: really focus on telling good stories. When I researched each of the platforms the book covers, I went far beyond the dry, technical information and facts you’d find on Wikipedia or even other game books. What I wanted to find–and share–were the stories of the people who did brilliant things and how they did them. In some cases these were the big shot owners of companies, but, more often than not, it was folks you’ve likely never heard of, engineers, designers, and even the occasional janitor who made the real difference in the games we play and the machines we play them on.

I really hope you enjoy this book. If you do, please help spread the word. Tell some friends about it, or post a review on Amazon. For, much like so many excellent, but doomed machines we lovingly cover, our own book depends almost entirely on word of mouth advertising from folks exactly like you.

As always, I appreciate your support and raise my drinking horn to you.

Nice 'stache.

Fake edit:

This episode is a review of the new Might & Magic game from Lembic Entertainment.

"Lembic"? I hope he doesn't call them that in the video too.

I guess it's from that donation thingy he ran.

He should open the show with "Presented by Brian Fargo."

Damn, it's like he's trying to solo his own Codex.

World of Warcraft introduced a “monk” class in the last expansion, and initially I was very intrigued since this class in other games is usually known for rejecting material weapons and armor in favor of spiritual ones. It would have been interesting to have a class in WOW who could not wear any items or wield any weapons–that would have, essentially, eliminated the need for money and loot. Assuming they also made this character more powerful than any other class, it really would have sent a powerful message to the player base about materialism.

ITT we learn that Matt has no grip on reality.

So Matt is one of the academic teachers who indoctrinates his students into Marxism even though it has nothing to do with his profession (he's supposed to teach them how to write in English). Not only that, but he also revels in it. What a surprise.

Humanity has risen! Prepare for head explosion: http://mattchat.us/?p=641

Matt Barton said:
The reality is, the vast majority of games are for white heterosexual men, by white heterosexual men. The few exceptions to this principle are touted so loudly precisely because they provide a convenient excuse for remaining complacent. It’s the same argument you hear in general about how Obama’s election “proves” there’s no racism in the U.S. Why do we need an anti-racist movement–the President is black! Slash and cut those diversity programs…It’s not a pretty picture. Sure, there are some prominent female and LGBT game developers out there, and you can also find some games that buck the trend. But to argue that there’s no problem is not only incorrect, but unethical.

Well, we already knew he was a depraved feminist faggit-lover. Just look at how he empowered the delusions of that deranged freak William Heineman by referring to him as a female. Typical brainwashed librul to boot.

Still a good show though, and Matt seems like a nice enough (if deluded) chap, at least when he doesn't invite repulsive trans-mutants and keeps his leftist drone ideology to himself, which, to his credit, he manages surprisingly often.
