Oddly thin on details, the website they link in the upper right is dead. Can't even find much PR stuff about the announcement elsewhere.

Apparently there's a PC Gamer article that wasn't supposed to come out yet they're taking down everywhere, here's a scan I can find:

Handmade missions in MW5 were at times borderline decent. I still think there was a "real" MW game under the hood somewhere during development - the small mini-campaigns of linked missions have some kind of plot and sound like what a Merc should do.

MW5 was without doubt a bad game, but an enjoyable bad game with some mods (and the DLCs had quite some evolution in handmade missions, despite being hilariously overpriced).

Also I'm quite curious about the pick of Clan War Crimes as a protagonist faction. Well, considering the amount of civvies you casually murder in MW5 each mission, maybe it's on point to Jag Harder.

Clan War Crimes as a protagonist faction.
They're the best choice. Jade Falcon are diet Smoke Jaguar, so why not go for the real thing? Wolf's defining trait is not acting like a Clan, and there's no point to that if there aren't other playable Clans to compare them to. Ghost Bear's things are hard to write in a video game without being either unnoticeable or too over the top.
Smoke Jaguar are easy to understand, easy to write, easy to enjoy. They're just here to fight things with their giant robot. The people playing the game are also just here to fight things with their giant robot. Everything works out.
Also, you get to fight the Draconis Combine this way. I doubt there are many people who'd prefer to be fighting the Free Rasalhague Republic instead.

You'll presumably be getting a lot of access to omnimechs so it should be a lot less restrictive this time. Probably. Not sure how exactly it'll work.
I just want to mount six PPC and twenty double heatsinks on a DaishiDire Wolf. Is that to much to ask ?

Edit : also, interesting choice of clan. Leaves the door open to an extension where you'll fight the IS counterattack, playing the MW3 story line from the other side.

Rereading the gray death legion trilogy on kindle, would love to see a narrative driven MechWarrior game, like those old mech commander games. With FMV's, real actors, drama and heroic last stands.

I mean, the gameplay hasn’t evolved since MW2 like at all. It’s surprising somebody is interested, given Piranha is still alive and keep spewing them Mech Warrior games.

What is the best game in this series? Mechwarrior 2?
Mechwarriors 2, 3 and 4 are all solid. 2nd has good rap if you can stomach the graphisms. The 3rd is the best if you want to go crazy with customization and it still had a MP community a few years ago. I have very good memory of it and it is a good entry point into the franchise. Haven't played the 4th and at release time it had unfavorable reviews compared to the 3rd, but since then I've heard it was a good game still.

Having replayed 4 recently it's a good "arcade" game, Vengeance completely avoids simulationism (all your damage is restored every mission, you're essentially showered in clantech and equipment) and slowly through Black Knight and Mercenaries the complexity rises, still inferior to 3 tho. The graphics still hold up and the handmade campaign is light years above whatever 5th had in store.

5th had decent gunplay. Melee is fun. Builds were adequate. They simply forgot to build a game around it: Clans if it has a good handmade campaign leveraging both the weirdness of the Clans (and particularly of Clan Smokey Pitbull) and their tech I can see something good out of it. Canonically you're an elite warrior kultur supposed to be fighting always in numerical inferiority, with difficult logistics and against a foe that is completely technologically inferior to you but has almost endless numbers (with rising tech levels from pirates, periphery, mercs, Great Houses, Comstar). If they're competent I can see a final product greatly superior to whatever 5 was. If.

I'd be fine with procedural generation if it wasn't just the laziest procgen possible.
Random terrain with no thought + random buildings with no thought + random enemy locations, shake it, done. Doesn't matter how many mods you add to that game, the missions never become in any way interesting. And the "mech build porn" + pew pew on its own with no connective tissue just isn't enough.

Best of course would be some procedural + handmade combo. Handmade only would most likely be "play it once, done" and that would be a bit of a shame, given that there just aren't any good recent mech piloting games around.
