Yoko Taro is like a crazy hobo. He creates these insane stories filled with bad gameplay on purpose. Square must love him though if they're giving him and plantinum a chance.

Fuck it, ending e will be a time warp to dod remake 1.3 with Taro raising zero from the dead as a futa rape goddess.

Yoko Taro can do no wrong.

Anyone who can make a brilliant and genuinely moving story that's a sequel to one ending in a game that involves the Japanese Air Force shooting down a dragon is a genius.

He said in an interview that he thought they were insane for giving him the chance of working on NieR 2.

Must...resist...the...hype.

Nah, fuck that. Nier was an amazing game even with all its faults. I welcome the hype with open arms.

It' cause ps4 is a costly machine. Not because I wouldn't want to play the fuck out of it.

Oh yeah, that's true. I don't have a PS4 either.

:negative:
Edit: Fuck it, I'm buying a PS4 and Bloodporn for my birthday in a few months.

And this is why I want to resist the hype. 2 games to play do not justify that price for me now.
Now if only Nier was out..

There's always the FF7 remake to look forward to as well as FF15. Oh, and The Last Guardian. :troll:

Surely you jest.
I don't think FF7 remake will be a remake. More like a re-imagining.
The game is still perfectly playable to everybody if they can go beyond the graphic.
Emulation can also let you speed up the repetitive random encounters.

Persona 5, NieR 2, The Last Guardian, Bloodborne... it's a good time to buy a PS4. I don't have one yet either but I'm gonna get a side job just for this.

I thought the troll emote was a good indication of how I really felt about the things I just wrote.

And I thought that taking it a face value could be amusing.

More from Gematsu (transcript of the already linked SquareEnix presents video):

Taro said:
“This was actually something that Saito-san told me: to make it more open to RPG fans. Because a lot of fans of NieR are RPG fans, and if you have a too action-oriented battle system, it just seems impossible for RPG fans to enjoy. So we’ve been really focusing on making it more open to more RPG-focused gamers out there so that they can also enjoy it. That’s our goal.”

Taro: “In terms of the varied gameplay, we do have plans to include some kind of varied gameplay. But we don’t want to do a carbon copy of the previous game because, for one, I think it gets stale if you just copy what you previously did. We have a couple of ideas. Honestly, we’re still debating on whether to incorporate something along the lines of a text adventure part, because I’ve heard that western gamers don’t like text adventures, so I’m curious if western fans would actually enjoy that.”

Taro: “In terms of that balancing act, NieR wasn’t really balanced, it was very mixed. I think it was fine if you can enjoy it. In terms of the text adventure parts, if we get a lot of feedback, that’s something I would definitely consider putting in based on fan comments.”

I think they’re borderline crazy for giving us the greenlight on this.

He's nuts. Every game has different elements mashed together. Nier was part hack slash/bullet hull/life simulator/errand boy bitch side quests. DOD3 was worse than Nier but did another rythm battle so +1 in my book.

He's right. His games are cult hits with a specific audience in mind. Majority of the characters he creates are horrible people. Caim was a mute psychopath who only cared about "save sister" and "fuck everyone up" along with a pedophile, an immortal shota and a cannibal elf milf. 2 is 2. 3 had five insane and unsavory women with a ton of power versus a sociopathic prostitute who ironically is the only shot at saving the world. Even Nier which had probably the most "heroic" of the series managed to bring about the end of the human race because of "YONAH"

People say Hidetaki Miyazaki does dark and depressing games? Pfft, Miyazaki is Mickey Mouse compared to Taro's worlds/settings.

Nier is the very definition of a tragic hero. He isn't like any of the other protagonists and characters who are horrible people. He really loved his sister/daughter and that was his driving force. He only found out about how much he fucked up the world when it was already too late. It wasn't something he did intentionally. Him also killing spirits of kids is only metaknowledge that we have, he doesn't. As far as he knows he's just killing burtal monsters.

I really like this little tidbit here: Yoko would have pulled the plug on the game if it didn’t work out after six months of preproduction, he said. “That pre-production, those six months, I told Mr. Saito, let’s give it six months and if it doesn’t jell, scrap it,” said Yoko. “But I got along great with the people at Platinum Games, so I decided to take the next step into production.”

He never was one to bullshit during his interviews, at least content wise, so I myself will take that as somewhat of an assurance that everyone knows what they're getting into. Apparently everyone in the team has been a huge Nier fan even before this project came about, so hopefully they won't fuck it up. I probably don't even want to know what a game would look like where he had absolute control anyway, since he himself considered Nier to be a 'normal' game. I'd also say tokyos streets are safer now that he has another project to work on instead of roaming its streets. Probably the main reason why Square gave him this opportunity in the first place.

Now we only have to wait and see how this turns out...

Drakengard was a clunky dynasty warrior style game with five different endings. I loved it despite it's repetitive nature. PSM gave it 7/10 back in 2003,I picked it up at Blockbuster and beat it in a week. Ending C is still my jam. As I got older, it became apparent there was a deliberate purpose to all the elements. The weird music, the slow, lumbering controls and the progressively weird storyline. That's not to say Drakengard didn't have problems, it sure as hell did.

The thing is though, Taro does what he wants the way he wants. Every game has a certain logic to it and tries to fit together. A lot of times the elements clash with each other. Drakengard 3 suffered from this despite explaining the origin of Midgard's setting. Taro is a troll. Ending E is the ultimate fuck you to a player and I raged "This is it? Fuck this game" when I played it. That's part of his charm. His games have a certain sadistic pleasure you have to appreciate.

Nier is still the best of the series in my opinion. DOD3 I liked the story/setting but realized I don't care for Drakengard's combat/play style anymore.

The thing is all of Cavia/Taro's games were made on a shoe string budget. That is part of the problem with the series as a whole. I think with Platinum's backing Taro can create his vision with really good mechanics developed in Platinum's signature style.

this will be the first game in the DoD/Nier series Yoko Taro is able to direct with both a reasonable budget and a competent development team

i'm very excited

Yeah, I remember the ending to the last one.

Saito: “Yeah, he thinks that’s a happy ending, too.”

Taro: “It’s usually a happy ending.”

lol
