I don't think it's a god awful port, it's just not very well optimized. In terms of options, it's actually pretty comprehensive compared to other Koei Tecmo PC ports. The lack of keyboard/mouse support is a non-issue for me, I play these sorts of games on a pad.

I'm not a fan of the sperg loot, but if you're decent you can safely ignore most of the +.01% stuff and just play the fucking game. It feels great and works independently of the loot layer.

bitch died  fire guardian spirit attacks took half her health and the rest was just low stance odachi quick attacks.
i just noticed there are skill trees and fuckton of different attacks to learn...was looking for shit like that in shrine menu or on the main map view but apparently it was "hidden" in main menu next to items and titles  spent all 40 points and bought some ninjutsu, magic and odachi skills. i can now transition between stances with new attacks. nice this is getting better and better :salute:

I have a RL friend who swears Nioh is identical to Souls. I'm pretty sure he isn't aware of the 'buy skills' menu.

My ninja Geralt after slaying Hinoenma. It was a fairly tough fight, took me a few tries. Paralysis resistance helped a bit, but mostly it's about dodging and getting gud. The caves level was a lot shorter than the first, but it was fun and had some tense moments.

I want to try other weapons but samurai points are not that easy to come by to invest in other trees. Using weapons without putting points into them seems a little ghetto. I wonder if the game would have been better if they just scrapped the skill trees altogether and provided the full moveset for all weapons from the start.

I killed the bitch boss in the 2nd main mission. Retrospectively, a piece of cake. The secret is just to be gud fast and patient.

Do I need to play all the sub missions if I want to unlock further weapon skills? Right now many scrolls are still locked. Or is it just main missions and dojo levels?

You'll have more than enough points over the course of the game to buy skills. Don't forget to use the various hairs - samurai, ninja and mage - because those also give you skill points. And, like I said, respec books are cheap and plentiful. I have around 5 of those books just lying around in my inventory.

edit: I doubt the :obviously: gentlemen of the Codex will have this issue, but I found a lot of people complaining about it on the internetz that I think I should mention it just in case. Don't forget to fucking scroll down in the skills menu because what you see when you first open it is not all there is. :P

edit edit Also, remember that each weapon skill tree has its own passives. In case it doesn't specifically mention that the passive only works with that weapon - like the Tonfa passives - they actually work with whatever weapon you have. For example, the Kusarigama tree has a passive that gives you extra damage for grapple (or final blow, I forget) and it works with everything not just Kus.

It's also easy to miss that you gain free skill points from using weapons. IIRC you gain them until you reach 500k proficiency points. So even if you don't care about axes or spears you should use them a bit so you get those free skill points.

It's worth training through some of the weapons just to get the mystic art from the final dojo mission. The skills are all passives and some - like the axe - apply their bonuses no matter what weapon you're using. The onmyo and ninjutsu insta-cast mystic arts are also must haves once you get to the endgame masochism boss rush levels.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
Game's pretty decent. Refunded and will wait for sale. Too expensive.

It'll be a long old wait. KT are far from generous when it comes to discounts. I've had Toukiden Kiwami 2 on my wishlist since release and I think the lowest it's been is about 10% off, which is still a whopping £44.99.

With one of those VIP vouchers from GMG and the regular 10% off launch, I picked up Nioh for £28 and a few pence. Quite happy with that, just need to finish ELEX first before getting stuck in.

Similar reasoning, my backlog is still pretty sizable, and with the Christmas sale I'm going to be picking more shit up. I can wait for this to drop during another Steam Sale.

Welp, you bastards talked me into it. Got it for $37.99 on GMG with the VIP voucher. Seems like I'll get my money's worth.

After about 6 hours of farming The Grimmest Blades for the Master Swordsman Weapon / Armor set, I finally fucking got it....doing Marobashi.

Jesus fucking Christ. Now onto Return of the Gourd for Tatenashi to really rip my hair out.

Been doing everything on Samurai. Have always been under the impression Difficulty didn't matter. Especially since I can facetank Obsidian Sam / "Demon King" with little trouble at level 170.

Though, I did make the mistake of doing a Level 350 Twilight Mission my first foray back into the game after a 6 month layoff. Got the Unrivaled Warrior Smithing Text by chance, heh.

My God was I wrong about Spears. Things are fucking incredible against Yokai. Enjoying it a lot more than Odachi as my secondary.

Smithing Texts are Purples (Legendary?), not divine, so you can't. :negative:

Luck, [Human] Item Drop Rate, Hunter's Blessing, and Kodama Bowl to modify the former all help with drops, though. I respec'd myself to get the +25 Luck Onmyo passive, and learn Spear skills. I recently found a pair of Tatenashi gloves with some purple mod "Close Combat Attack Increase" on them. Never seen it before, but holy Jesus it's incredible with Dual Swords.

My current build focused on SOTC is great, but I've been using Windstorm a lot lately.
SOTC is so goddamned OP it's ridiculous. Gotta love summoning Revenants, and busting them with it before they can even move. :D I was a huge fan of Windstorm before the nerf, but with the new Mortal Flow ability that destroys horns almost guaranteed, it seems like it's clearly inferior to Water Sword for Yokai. Still a great Ki Buster for humans, but I like Moonshadow, and Cherry Blossom (holy shit did they strengthen this ability) for that.

Use Lightning to Slow, and Water Sword is excellent at applying effects. Usually just dodge behind something and start wailing. It's mostly potent as a boss killer, particularly when combined with Sloth for even slower enemies. It suffers a bit against Tengus, and the Ninja Oni, though. Also, I have Weaken Melee Weapons on my 2kat. Combined with the Mystic Art, Ice Bitch hit me for 14 on WotSt. :)

That glove effect seems to be the same mod as the One Eyed Dragon set, and from what I've noticed of basic combos, it's quite nice.

Game is awesome. It scratches that same Souls itch in me, but its combat and mechanics are different enough from Souls that it is its own thing. I've played enough now that I'm thinking of restarting, so I can focus more on a Dual Swords + Kusarigama + Ninjitsu build. I'm currently a Dual Swords + Spear build, so I'm debating if it's worth it. I've read you can respec, so maybe I won't bother, but I'm also not that far in the game. What I've played of Spears, I don't really like them so far.

Anyone know if you can turn up the AA with NVidia control panel?

From what I can tell, I can turn AA up to 8x with the control panel, but I don't know if it's working as the game seems to look the same. Turning AF on crashes the game on start-up, though. Supposedly SweetFX works, but I don't have time to fuck with that. Anyone else have any luck?

Down-Scaling works too, but I've never done that before, so don't really know how.

you can buy a respec item for 30k gold from the store. another one can be completed in a side quest in the third region.

Spears are boring at first but all the ki depletion skills are what make them ridiculously good at killing humanoids.

What's your opinion on Armor of the Exceptional? I see that the 6-piece bonus is +skill damage and it also has increased attack and defense for Kara-Jishi. And a spear as weapon. :)

Weaken Melee Weapons is worth it's weight in gold. I just can't get it to roll on my divine items. Did you get it a a drop, a reforge or a forge? Also, if you're playing on the PS4, would you mind committing suicide somewhere so I can farm your grave? :D
I reforged it onto both my 2kat and Spear. Might put a different weaken on my spear so I can try to stack them with one another. Getting Fabled Umbracite and Tempering weapons is a pretty good way of getting it as well.

Thing is, all of my gear is Level 150 +5-8 at this point. I don't know if you can leave it behind if it's enhanced, or it just drops to Level 150. I won't be playing for another few hours, but I'll fall off a cliff in Death to Bandits. As for Armor of the Exceptional, it's really just outclassed by Tatenashi. You need 6 pieces for 17% skill damage, while a 3 piece of Tatenashi at 30.1 lbs of equip weight is a flat 15% increased attack, which affects everything. And, from what I'm reading the 33% soft cap of CCD is off, and it's actually like 45%, which, from what I'm seeing, is much harder to hit. Even looking at all the DLC sets, it doesn't look like there's much to top Tatenashi + Master Swordsman, while going with Todo Clan for Change Life to Stamina.

Played a bit more over the weekend, beat the first main mission and the side-mission in the same area.

The game actually gets a lot (a LOT) easier once you level up a bit and unlock more skills. I still die occasionally, but not every 5 minutes. Upgrading your weapons and figuring out how the stats work helps a lot, too. It's really a "wiki everything!" kind of game.

Switched from sword to dual swords - they rock, really liking the riposte move that doesn't require hair-splitting timing. Going for skill / dex buold for now.

It drops just that it loses the + upgrades.

Ok, you sold me on the Tatenashi. I actually tried it again a bit last night, just in combination with Kingo's and the damage output was amazing. I have a suspicion the first time I tried it something didn't work right and I wasn't seeing any damage increase. Bug? Hidden mechanic? Fuck knows. Guess I'll give up and use Master Sword and Tatenashi in the end and switch from Honda to Todo because farming the Armor of the Exceptional is a bitch.

Just left 4 fresh corpses along the coast from outside the cave to near the boat in WotSt Death to Bandits. Hope you can farm my Revenant.
