The Witcher may be a good game or not depending on your tastes/ genre preferences ( i can see people enjoying it for its good atmosphere ) but it already has a very very hard time qualifying as a RPG and claiming its actually a GOOD RPG or has a "focus on RPG mechanics" is fucking retarded beyond even gamespot levels.

whats next ? Codex starts covering God of War 3 as RPG too ? Modern Warfare called best military sim since operation flashpoint ? Battefield Bad Company claimed to be focusing on realistic flight mechanics ? Recommending Rebel Assault to someone looking for a good space-sim ?

there s no need to go into another "what is RPG debate", do yourself a favour and play those games considered RPG classics here like wasteland,fallout,arcanum,realms of arcania, darklands, wizardries etc. etc.. if you seriously cant tell a very very drastic difference between the gameplay of those games and the "gameplay" of something like the witcher ... well there s nothing left to say.

It didn't sell 2 million copies, and 1.5 million over 2+ years lifetime isn't a lot (though it is for a PC-exclusive).

And you yet again glaze over the point: The Witcher was not a hinky-dinky title, it had quite an ad campaign. It did not have the PR support or release hype of an AAA title of the caliber of BioWare's RPGs. Considering that, and considering its shitty localization, and being based on a franchise we're unfamiliar with, it has every right to be proud of its MetaCritic score. That's it, that's the point, so stop adding bullshit to it. Roofles.
