Here's a big press release from <A href="http://www.bethsoft.com">Bethesda</a> about the music man for <a href="Http://www.elderscrolls.com">Oblivion</a>:

<blockquote><b>The Elder Scrolls® IV: Oblivion™ to Feature Original Soundtrack by Award-Winning Composer Jeremy Soule</b>

<b>"Gaming’s Greatest Musician" to Create Music for Epic RPG
<br>
October 21, 2005 (Rockville, MD) -- Bethesda Game Studios</b> announced today that Jeremy Soule, the award-winning composer who has been called "gaming’s greatest musician," will create the soundtrack for the highly anticipated role-playing game (RPG), The Elder Scrolls® IV: Oblivion™. The score for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind® (2002 Game of the Year, 2002 RPG of the Year), also created by Soule, received numerous accolades from industry professionals including "Game Soundtrack of the Year," "Best Music and Sound Effects," and "Outstanding Achievement in Original Composition." A sample piece of music from Oblivion is available for download at <a href="http://www.elderscrolls.com">www.elderscrolls.com</a>.

<br>
"I’ve been working with Jeremy for a long time," said Todd Howard, executive producer for Oblivion, "and this is by far his best work. The game is an epic-fantasy-drama, and the score adds greatly to its dramatic appeal.. What he has brought to Oblivion is extraordinary. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it."

<br>
Oblivion is an epic, open-ended single-player RPG for the next generation. Providing gamers with the most life-like gaming experience to date, Oblivion promises to be an immersive experience unlike any other. The powerful combination of unprecedented graphics and freeform gameplay allows gamers to unravel the main quest or explore the vast world at their own pace. Oblivion is the fourth chapter in the award-winning Elder Scrolls series that includes Morrowind, Daggerfallâ„¢ (1996 RPG of the year), and Arena (1994 RPG of the year).
<br>

<br>
"It has been a thrill to score the music for the next installment in The Elder Scrolls series," said Soule. "The stunning, epic quality of The Elder Scrolls series is particularly compatible with the grand, orchestral style of music I enjoy composing the most. It has been a pleasure to be involved with such a revolutionary series that is poised to redefine the RPG genre once again."
<br>
<br>
Jeremy Soule has been the recipient of numerous industry awards and professional accolades. Among his credits include Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which earned Soule the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award (BAFTA) for Best Score, Game Music Category. Soule has also been twice nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences for his work with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and also received a BAFTA nomination for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Soule is also involved with Direct Song, a game music expansion service allowing gamers to add more official music to their games.

<br>
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be published by Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games for the PC and the Xbox 360â„¢ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft this holiday season. My vote was for <A href="http://www.twistedsister.com/">Twisted Sister</a> to do the sound track.

I hope they release the soundtrack.

Soule sound library gets repetitive after a while but it's expected. Still a good composer.

They're announcing the music composer......

What is wrong with announcing that they've got a good composer to compose good music for their game?

Yay. That was the big update Pete alluded (or disalluded?) to on the TES forum. Big fucking deal. How how something important about the game? They can shove that news up Pete's ass. (Sorry, a little aggressive today, but that is my reaction to Bethesda's "update"). I think they are too ashamed of the game to actually give us information about it.

I'd vote for Jerry Goldsmith... but he's dead :(.

It's better than the idiots who say "I want John Williams to do it!!!!!!"

Oh, you're right. Music isn't important at all. How foolish.

Not much of news since we already knew who was doing the music for some time.

Tintin, Llama is saying Soule is an overrated composer. Nothing wrong in having that opinion, is there..?

Well, I'd also vote for Basil Poledouris. And he still seems to be alive...
The 'Riders of Taramis' from Conan is a must-have 'battle' soundtrack.
In fact, my 'battle' sound is full of mp3s of Poledouris, Goldsmith, Morgan (PS:T combat music).

Sounds more like he's saying "Oblivion has gotten so much overrated hype in it already, so they're adding more hype to fuel it up".

And that's untrue? Previews do constantly mention celebrities all over again and very little gameplay.

Does anyone know if the voice-acting in Oblivion can be turned to zero or switched off? I would really like to play and enjoy this game despite all the other issues, but the voice acting may kill it for me. That Bard (e3 demo video), on top of the corny dialogue - oh god it's all sooooo bad. And that guy will be voicing everyone of the same race!!

And I don't see how that connects to announcing a music composer. Music can be an essential part of a game, so I don't see why it would be treated as another addition to hype-mania or something. I think it's different from talking about Star Trek actors playing 5 minute roles.

I can't stand Jeremy Soule's music anymore. Not that it is particularly bad, it just sounds all the same in every game. While I was listening to the main title song for oblivion it sounded like the same music from nwn. Diversity Jeremy Soule, diversity. It seems like the one man orchestral nonsense is all he does. How about simpler percussion instruments for an Inn or bar. Or how about horror movie/tense/Xcom UFO music for dark and scary places like cemeteries, graves, and caves. How about really grand full on orchestral for maybe castles, large or important battles like FF8 intro.

Unless there is some diversity, music in oblivion is probably going to drive me insane after the first couple of days playing the game.

It would have been nice to have numerous artists contribute to the music for different parts of the game. After all they should be able to afford it, games make more money then movies don't they?

Oh yeah and the oblivion intro music is just the remix of the morrowind intro music. What happened to starting fresh and new every game?

Completely agree, Vasquez. It sounds like a chintzy re-mix he knocked off in 15 minutes.

Beth kept saying things like 'we're doing BIG things with the music this time round', only to announce now the same guy doing his same simple, bloated pap for the whole game?

Bring back Eric Heberling, Daggerfall's brilliant composer, I say!

Oblivion = Over-hyped and overrated game

Jeremy Soule = Over-hyped and overrated composer

combine them both and you've got a PR report previews will keep masturbating over, in addition to a series of these already. (STAR TREK GUY IS DOING VOICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Just more annoying crap.

PATRICK STEWART AND JEREMY SOULE? ITS LIKE SOMEONE EJACULATED INTO MY EARS!!11111111111

Jeremy Soule is only popular because he did the music for alot of dumb games with large and dumb fanbases. They start listing off what they like about the game, come to music, look up the musician and suddenly BAM Jeremy Soule is the dominate composer evar because he made the Elf Town music for Baldurs Gate 55: The Electric Boogaloo.
