Daggerfall's music still seems more diverse and it was midi. Jeremy writes a nice orchestral score, but every one of his songs sound just like another.
I agree completely that Oblivion's main title sounds like a 15 minute remix. I hope they didn't give the guy any money for that effort.

Oblivion needs a good 40-50 tunes so that it doesn't become repetitive to quickly.

Not too good. I think I prefer Morrowind's main theme. This new one is just badly hacked together.

Oh well, I'll probably end up replacing the default audio with Men At Work anyways.

Just noticed, this theme sounds really familiar. I think I've heard it somewhere else before.

Everyone knows Final Fantasy RPGs have teh bestest music. They're made in Japan!!
http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00465/

I like the midis from the Dooms.

I wonder if the next Elder Scrolls is going to have rap. T3h Elda' Scrows: True Crime
To target the retard demographic.

edit:
I forgot how obnoxious the guy who runs this site is.

LOL. Joe Redifer covers almost every aspect of Final Fantasy fandom, including even the (some might say) excessive ReMixing of its music in this hilarious Robovoice ReMix.

LOLZ! TEH FUNNAY

Yeah, Chrono Cross is the only game soundtrack own. I don't know WHY I own it, as I certainly never listen to it, but I think I've still got them.

For midi type music, Doom is my fav, but otherwise...

Some games have great music. Total Annihilation, for instance. Beyond Good & Evil's music was pretty good as well. That's just off the top of my head. And I love the menu music for Dawn of War. Love it so hard I'm writing anal fanfiction about it.

"It has been a thrill to score the music for the next installment in The Elder Scrolls series," said Soule. "The stunning, epic quality of The Elder Scrolls series is particularly compatible with the grand, orchestral style of music I enjoy composing the most. It has been a pleasure to be involved with such a revolutionary series that is poised to redefine the RPG genre once again." !
Doesn't he feel unclean saying that?

Yeah, Soule is not bad, but his stuff is growing more and more tired by every title.

That's one of Soule's works.

While we're talking about good video game music, I need to mention Michael Land. He has, by far, produced my favorite game music.

Monkey Island
Monkey Island 2
Curse of Monkey Island
The Dig
Day of the Tentacle
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

In other words, old LucasArts music. :)

I hate to become a broken record, but I really like the music in space rangers 2 a lot.

In fact, I don't think there is anything I dislike about the game except I wish repairs were a bit cheaper and that some of the translations are pretty bad.

I can't remember the morrowind music standing out too much, but then the music should blend in and not stand out, I suppose.

Does the fat man still do game music? That stellar 7 shizzledee was da bomb! Like 20 years later that song is still stuck in my head.

Oblivion = Over-hyped and overrated game

Jeremy Soule = Over-hyped and overrated composer

A game can't be overrated before it's out, you know?
I like the music, although I would have preferred they would have brought someone new, to try a different style.

Damn, bruce, your really make me wish to reinstall the game to give it a fourth rerun, heh :).
Expecially given it's high replayability, and given that after the first SR I kinda consider it too easy even on expert (all option 200%), and don't have to worry about translation (Envy me! Envy me now!)...
I wonder what I'll have to delete for it, though...

Soule did Total Annihilation? Awesome, I didn't know that.
He did the music for Dawn of War too. And if I am correct he never did anything for the Baldur's Gate series (yeah, Dark Alliance, but I don't count that as a true BG game). The only Infinity engine game he was involved with was Icewind Dale (that Eastdale track alone deserves some kind of reward). And then that great theme for Giants...

A lot of so-so work with NWN, DS and such but those games themselves were tiresome too. He is a celebrity composer, just like Inon Zur is. Not always good, but he definitely made some gamemusic history with a couple of past games, no discussion possible.

That Oblivion theme is pretty weak though idd.

Haha...well if there are more games this good in the works, I may have to learn Russian a bit to get the most out of them.

I have literally been playing the game every waking moment while not at work or otherwise detained. I have not been so engrossed in a game since the original Pirates! which I played on the apple II GS with its lush graphics and sound, which I still feel is the very best version ever made.

the problem with soule is just about every game company with a budget hires him. so he just cranks out oodles and oodles of stuff and apparently doesn't have the time to come up with something as completely awesome as total annihilation's soundtrack again. the guy needs to take a break or he's gonna get oversaturated and no one's going to want his work anymore.

What part of "we already knew who was doing the music" dont you get?

Which part of "They're announcing it in a press release officially on the front page" don't you get?

Jeremy Soule is only popular because he did the music for alot of dumb games with large and dumb fanbases.

That's not true. He gets repetitive and recycles a lot, but he does have talent in composing. Morrowind's score was perfect and fitting, but because BETHESDA decided to just have a 5 song loop throughout your entire play time, Soule's treated like all he did was make some unoriginal crap.

Personally, I thought for the limitations he was given, he did very well. He had to create 5 pieces of music that would fit throughout all the places you could be at any given moment. And I think he did pretty well.

Beth kept saying things like 'we're doing BIG things with the music this time round', only to announce now the same guy doing his same simple, bloated pap for the whole game?

What exactly are you rambling about? They gave him an assignment for 5 explore and 5 battle songs last time around, and he did the best he could under those limitations. Now they're expanding on music, making it more dynamic, and letting Soule actually compose music for specifics, rather than making him make music for the entire world at once.

Btw, if you insist on using capital letters to spell "definitive", you might want to double-check the spelling.

He said bethesda, not definitive...they are only definitive of mediocrity. Til now, as they slide over the edge of ass cliff.

The fact is, even the best soundtrack in the world can't save a shit game. It's like having an ugly, boring girl with a great voice and who dresses really well. Who fucking cares?

Now, I hope against hope oblivion won't suck ass, but to me a game that plays for 20 hours by definition sucks. Some games you are just getting warmed up in that time.

Not to mention that every single thing I hear about the game leads to the impression it will be an arcadish interactive movie. If you like this game, and it is as it seems like it will be then probably rpg games are not something you really have an interest in.

meh

Who fucking cares?

People who actually have some musical intelligence. Soundtracks for games like Lost Eden completely built an atmosphere and part to the story.
