I played this thing recently and it's one of the biggest piles of shit I've ever come across. Figures that the one-trick-pony hacks at Bloober Team only feel the need to update the visuals. The visuals were fine in the first place, it's the actual gameplay that is in serious need of some upgrading. It plays exactly like Layers of Fear (or any of their other games, really): Walk aimlessly along the spooky corridor until weird thing happens and the exit mysteriously appears, all the while adhering to a everything-at-the-kitchen-sink approach to horror, where no jump scare is cheap enough and no horror cliché is trite enough to not get thrown at the player. This game has pigeon-based jumpscares, for crying out loud! Read that again: It has PIGEON - BASED - JUMPSCARES! And if that was't dumb enough, they repeat that exact same jumpscare numerous times throughout the game. Not even Rutger Hauer can save this. In fact, he sounds like he was trying to have a nice nap in the recording booth until some asshole woke him up, handed a sheet of paper to him and asked him to read the words on the paper.

It's mind-numbingly, soul-crushingly, heart-achingly bad. And a new coat of paint won't change that.

I liked the Observer. It was beautiful and disturbing and really psychedelic by times.

Maybe the fact that it was Rutger Hauer's final work also contributed to the impression.

The game already looked amazing. Upgrading the art was the last thing they needed to do. It's still a dull slog. Another layer of makeup and a tighter push-up bra doesn't make someone worth dating.
