Re: Tim Cain, don't forget this interview: http://www.rpgcodex.net/article.php?id=10151

Feargus Urquhart: Not to tease, but we will have news in the next two or three months. We absolutely are looking at crowdfunding one of our next titles as well, so we’ll have news on that soon. I can say it’s been fun to sit around and talk with Tim Cain, Game Director of the original Fallout, about ideas for our next thing. I wish I could talk about it more.

Hey TimCain, was he talking about Tyranny?

no.

Weird. Would Obsidian really announce two new RPGs within a few months of each other? Because if Feargus wasn't talking about Tyranny, he must have been talking about another Kickstarter.

Tim Cain spreading his influence far and wide I see.

And Feargus still running his mouth. :P

I mean just look at the quote. Feargus is referring to crowdfunding. Tyranny was funded by Paradox.

Also, because I know what Feargus is talking about.

Anthony Davis OK, since you're here and answering questions - is the game Obsidian is planning to crowdfund the same one that you were thinking of doing back in 2014 but ended up backing away from?

I know. Obviously you guys have always got multiple projects on the go. But announcing two games within a short period of time... it is without precedent for any developer except for the supermassive ones like Ubisoft, surely?

Obsidian must be the busiest it has ever been. Two MMOs, some weird card game stuff, Pillars 2, this, a new Kickstarter...

Really want to know who's on the team for this. Surely that isn't embargoed?

Come onnn, who's project director and who's creative director (main writer)? Spill the beans Anthony Davis

A few of the programmers rotated off of PoE on to this. Tim Cain, as was already pointed out. Dan Spitzley too.

Brian Heins is the Project Director.
Matt Singh is the Lead Producer.

Matt MacLean is on it - I believe as a senior writer (maybe the lead? not sure).

Constant Gaw is on the team - senior or lead level designer maybe? Not sure.

Brian Menze is the Lead Artist.
Anthony Davis are you in on this one?

No, I'm on AW for the foreseeable future.

Though I have played it.
So you quit selling bagels to go back to CRPG development, just to get stuck on tank mmo while various CRPG projects pass by?

Donuts man. Donuts.

Also, I like tanks. I drove them for the United States Army.

I actually like my position - I can work on a really fun tank game, AND continue to give my feedback and ideas to the teams making RPGs.

Here is something that a lot of people outside of the industry don't know - it's really hard to play and enjoy a story based game you worked on. Usually because of the course of development you have played the same set of areas a million billion times or because you already know the whole story - or for any other reason.

The games I have worked on and played, for real, is quite small:
Alpha Protocol
Dungeon Siege 3

That's it. I have then played and beaten:
Fallout: New Vegas
Pillars of Eternity

I am hoping I will eventually forget enough to sit down and play KOTOR2 or NWN2+Expansions, I really do.

I like that first screenshot, and the camera angle.

14540.jpg

Looking at all screenshots, it looks as though they might have gotten the 3D iso camera right for once. Now as long as the camera angle is fixed and the 3D game world is designed to utilize fixed angle ie. no nonsense like obstruction of items and characters.

Unless this will be TB with a good, in-depth character system, the game will flop. Plenty of RT iso action games already and the screenshot with action does look like a RT combat moment.

Sigh.

Anthony Davis, can you tell us anything on the camera angles and rotation? Shouldn't be a big deal of info to share, unlike game systems, length etc. The screenshots look like the game might actually use parallel projection or a perspective at a very refined low field of vision.

I actually have no clue. I would need some more info before I could figure that out - and even then I might not be able to speak about it.

Thanks man. Hope you don't get in trouble for revealing that. I recognise Tim, Dan, Matt and Brian. Dan is a vet of NV if I recall correctly.

Does the Oshcuro guy still work at Obsidian?

Heh, well, Brother None knows what that game was going to be, but he won't tell me any details. But he is willing to tell me what games are or aren't it, so I know it wasn't Tyranny.

I have no idea who that is.

I think you are thinking of Dan Rubalcaba, though Spitzley might have as well.

Dan Spitzley was the lead programmer on Planescape: Torment and he was a Black Isle Vet. He honestly is probably one of the most talented people I have ever met - and he's a nice guy too.

Makes sense, that does sound like a better position to be in.
