God that BG narrator was fucking annoying. They could at least sync the text scroll speed with the narration.
What was annoying about it?
The lack of synch, I say it right there.
Oh OK, I thought there was something else. It is such a small thing to get annoyed by. :)

Yeah, it is a minor thing, that should have been easy to fix but wasn't and that type of stuff annoys me a great deal.

My solution is to look away from the screen and just listen

Didn't these dreams also came randomly after you rest somewhere? Atleast that's how I remember it in BG2. Especially with those retarded "gameplay" sections in the dream
The dreams occurred the first time you rested after completing a chapter.

You could get either of two special abilities, depending on whether your reputation was above or below 10 at the moment you rested.

I always thought that was annoying myself, but the voice acting of the narrator (and the game of course) was so good that I never gave a shit.

Yeah, I liked his voice. I think he was the best narrator IE games had, because the guy who worked on BG2 was fucking annoying and IWD/IWD2 narrators weren't very good either though they were better than BG2' one.

IWD was pretty good but IWD2 has the shittiest narrator ever. "ONCLE USWALD SAYS ADVENTURER HRAURHURHU" "ONCLE HEUHE HAARP HOOOOOOO"

That polish BG narrator should drink a glass of water, holy shit. "Sploshy splosh *glik*ispolshy, stolshy*glik* dolshy." Nothing worse than a dry clicking voice.

The few cartoon characters I recognize from that picture were all pretty shitty/annoying and Aerie has the worst V/A in BG2. Only Imoen was more irritating.

Wasn't Bubbles voiced by Tara Strong?

She's had several voice actors: http://powerpuff.wikia.com/wiki/Bubbles

Anyway, Zed's distaste for everything IWD2 is pretty amusing. I hope this game doesn't end up being a huge disappointment for him because I'm sure there will be similarities.

There are many similarities between BG2 and IWD2, and I think BG2 is amazing.
There are even more similarities between IWD and IWD2, and I think IWD is Good For What It Is.

I don't understand how they could take a tried-and-loved formula and fuck it up so bad as to make a boring game. That's why I dislike IWD2. Mass-trash encounters, fleeting story, dull characters and long fucking dungeons without variation.

Kath Soucie's best roles were in Gargoyles and the Spectacular Spider-Man, truly the greatest cartoons of all time. I remember her being all right in Earthworm Jim too, though that series became disappointing in the second season when TenNapel started pushing his Christian conservative agenda.

To denigrate an accomplished va is so bizarre. :?

Mass-trash encounters, fleeting story, dull characters and long fucking dungeons without variation.
That's a description of Icewind Dale all right.

When's the last time you played IWD1? I'm pretty sure it's worse in most of those aspects.

In any case, this game and IWD2 have the same lead designer so that's hardly a good sign from your POV

I played through IWD last year. It's not worse.

I think Sawyer is very well aware of IWD2's shortcomings, and I believe he knows people are looking for something more BG-esque. Worry for me, if you must, but I am not worried at all.

She's annoying and shrill. Fits cartoons, not so much narration.
She's a voice actor, she has more than one voice.
I was going to see if she had any voices that would fit a long monologue or narrative reading, but all Kath Soucie videos on youtube are music videos. Heh.

OK, let's go over these one by one. Roguey, feel free to join in.

fleeting story

"Two demons somehow raise a bunch of disparate monster armies and duke it out and also here's a magical artifact from one of RA Salvatore's stories" is more interesting than the Ten Towns' battle against the Legion of the Chimera, whose backstory is much more fleshed out and detailed?

dull characters

How were they any duller than in IWD1? The villains were certainly more interesting.

long fucking dungeons without variation.

But this is the biggest howler. IWD1's greatest flaw is that it was much more monotonous and poorly paced. Go to dungeon, get to bottom of dungeon, defeat boss, climb back out, return to Kuldahar. Go to dungeon, get to bottom of dungeon, defeat boss, climb back out, return to Kuldahar. Go to dungeon, get to bottom of dungeon, defeat boss, climb back out, return to Kuldahar.

IWD2 kept you moving through the world and through various towns and town-like places instead of sending you back to the same town all the time. Because it didn't rely on one single town for its non-combat "down time", it could afford a variety of interesting non-combat areas like the Black Raven monastery, the time loop puzzle in Dragon's Eye and the ground level of the Severed Hand instead. Some of these weren't always implemented as well as they could have been (personally I think the complaints have been exaggerated) but they broke up the game's combat slog routine and that was so important.

Polish narration is much better:

My ears... I heard this claim before but I think you have to be Polish to agree, something amazing must happen when you understand what is spoken. I opened a video with the polish version of the game, and between hearing the character voice and the polish kobolds I had to shut it down.

I personally found the narrator for the werewolf island part of the (English) game to be something.
