What I don't like is that everybody expects that Justin just copies the IE music. Art and music doesn't work this way. He uses IE music as an inspiration, and this piece is similar in style to the IE music. Of course it is not the same, but how would be copying it 1:1 a good idea?

Hell yeah!

@ J_C; We want it to sound like the IE music, because the IE music was really really good.
Unlike what we just heard.

It does sound like the IE music, just longer and more drawn out. If that theme was in the Icewind Dale soundtrack, it probably would have been two minutes shorter, skipping to the parts where the music becomes "warmer" (around 1:30 and 3:00) as quickly as possible.

We aren't complaining that it isn't like the IE music, we are complaining that it isn't as good as the IE music. And it's in fact not good at all. How is that difficult to read correctly?

It is not great, but it is nice, and I would have no problem with listening to it in the game.

The track is only mediocre. Not bad, not great, just good for what it is ™.

Here on the codex that of course means that Justin Bell is a stupid faggot and should burn in hell.

The track from the teaser trailer is like 100000% better and they should have used something like that.

This subdued elevator music version is not much of a showcase if you ask me.

I don't mind the music to be honest. Having just had a listen to some baldur's gate 1 music I can say it seems to be an improvement over that at least.

I find it a shame though that a meth snorting mathemetician-cum-game designer (Tarn Adams of dwarf fortress fame) can produce a more tense and interesting musical piece with one instrument and a limited musical background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6FXeupOp04

Ideally this would be case of 'Show a "decent enough" track during production so the "awesome!" tracks in the game will be a pleasant surprise'.

This is a very ambient sounding track... I wouldn't get too hung up over it. It has a relaxing, almost sad feel too it. I'm sure the more epic tracks will deliver.

We’re planning to use a sliding experience system, so if you have a single character they’ll gain levels more quickly than if they were with an entire party.

felipepepe Well, so much for more original ideas. I hope it's not just getting six times as much experience if you're solo.

MicoSelva - here is a challenge for you. Do let's play of PoE solo on insane. But probably with the XP boost it won't be even hard.

I hope the personality isn't similar to DA2, You get a personality depending on the first choice in DA2 and then if you want to change the personality you need to pick a different personality dialog for 10 times in a row or something to change it.

You will probably be able to pick a starting personality when creating the character in PoE but changing the personality I hope its not like DA2.

Here are some completely made-up convo scenarios (BTW, all of these tags can be disabled as an option and are off by default in Expert):

NPC: "I can't believe she rejected me! My family bloodline will be broken! What am I supposed to do now?"

1. "I will find someone else for you, a more suitable match. I'll spare no expense and scour all the Dyrwood if I have to!" [Benevolent - Average]
2. "You are clearly suited to bigger and better things. The duc is looking for an ambassador to Rauatai. I'm sure you could easily take the position." [Diplomatic - Minor]
3. "Well, you could weep into your beer about it like every other heartbroken would-be lover. If you give up this easily your bloodline deserves to die." [Cruel - Average]
4. [Shrug] [Stoic - Minor]

Maybe the [Minor - Average] is the amount that fills the jar he talked about or something.

If you want to make a muscle wizard, who is mighty and powerful and a stupid idiot, you can do that. Mechanically what happens is that you’ll do a lot of damage, but their durations and areas of effects will be very small. Then in conversation they’re total idiots. [laughs] You can bully people and you can pick them up off the ground and slap them around.
So they aren't going the 'might on a wizard/priest/etc. = mental might' way that some were thinking of. Make a damage wizard and he'll be able to shift that log blocking your path with his bare hands.

This is the stupidiest and childish presentation of magic I ever seen in CRPGs or even fantasy settings.

...although it's very close to how teenagers play their spellcasters and characters they worship in their roleplaying (like characters from Fairy Tail and animes alike).

It's not really any less valid than "my wizard is smart enough to solve differential equations in his head, so his fireballs do lots of damage".

If magic aka SOULU POWER in PE is like power multiplicator which you can run anything through, then yes. Which is also very close to how super powers work in animes, where it's usually based around "willpower". But since "willpower" is not something you can count, give strict definition, tie to setting and it's metaphysical parts or put barriers around, anyone can do anything if plot (or, in PE, game mechanics) needs it.

I guess.

In AD&D, of course, spell damage was rarely affected by your stats at all. It was either constant, or determined by your level. I think that character level is the approximate equivalent of anime "willpower" in western RPGs.

In any case, I don't think your stats will have such a huge effect on the game in PoE because you only set them on chargen - they don't improve on level up. So overall it won't really play that differently.

Getting an extra magic missile because you killed 20 kobolds makes way more sense than this.

In AD&D if you wanted to be particular hero you had to be a particular person--
...uh, can I just say that what PE does is bad cause it's just unelegant?

Cause I don't want to go into another simulation vs gamism since we already had enough of those.
Thanks.

I actually like it, but i can totally see how it would be considered jarring.

Yeah, that's what those are, he explained it in another SA post.

It's also less a personality than a reputation for being of such a personality, so you can have contradiction sometimes.

Level represents the skill level of your character. You have more experience, you have grown and matured as a spell caster, you can incant the spell with more confidence, you have learned how to focus better.

INT is a manifestation of your character's knowledge. More knowledge about magic, the ability to read and understand different tomes or scrolls, these all help in your ability to be a stronger spell caster.

I don't think character level represents willpower at all. There are tangible reasons why it made a difference to the performance of spells in D&D.

Maybe I'm misreading something, but won't a solo character level up faster simply by virtue of the fact that he doesn't have to share experience with other party members? Are the XP rewards constant per party member, regardless of what the party size?
