The model is not really about why you make games, but why you play. A game designer may target a particular play style, but that doesn't make the game gamist/narrativist/simulationist. Only what the mechanics actually do matters.

Excusez moi, but it is the developer who implements the mechanics as well. So it is HE who makes the game gamist/narrativist/simulationist.

Mechanics don't necessarily do what their creator intended for them to do. The World of Darkness games are a good example, the designers emphasize many times that these games are focused on story, but the mechanics do not actually help creating the story. What they do support is resolving conflicts thought clever play, the same as D&D.

The main benefit of the trifold model is that it helps us understand that just because a system isn't good for me, it could be good for you since it supports your style. It also let's us understand our own preferences and thus look for games that are made for us. Also, some systems are just bad, and don't support any kind of play well.

Assuredly. I am not against the idea that it was developed for that reason. All I am claiming is that such a model is inaccurate.

Quite possibly, but it is accurate enough to be useful in many ways. I haven't really been paying attention to RPG theorists for a while, they might have a better model now.

Well, to be fair to VoTS he has admitted several times that he WILL buy and play the game. It is a matter of principle that restricts him from buying the game off kickstarter. The matter of having an (apparently) bland setting and (apparently) poor mechanics.

In fact he has (and many others have) asked questions pertaining to his distrust several times, but these questions have never been satisfactorily answered. Hoe could you blame him for being honest to his ideals?

I don't mind him having problems but he reached complete on his convictions. It made it seem like he just wants this game to burn and to tell us all Told you so! more than just be a skeptic and then enjoy the game (or not).

I fully expect to play the game and enjoy it well and even pay for it during a GOG/Steam discount at half the price, as I've done so with all Obsidian titles to date.
