Roguey can feel Sawyer's touch.

I don't. It was all right as a timesink. So far, Icewind Dale is turning out marginally better content-wise. If not for Josh Sawyer's contributions, it could have turned out the same or even worse.

Know what else is an alright timesink? Sniffing glue. And it's probably less harmful to your brain.

Please explain how you know the difference between his contributions and the other designers'?
Easy. Everything she likes is pure Josh. Everything she dislikes is from the other talentless hacks in Black Isle.

In the Matt Chat interview from last year he said his areas were Kresselack's Tomb, Dragon's Eye, and Lower Dorn's Deep plus Burial Isle from the expansion. The tomb was really boring but the other two areas had the most interesting fights (and the most entertaining writing) so far (I've finished all base campaign content up to the point of no return and near the beginning of HoW). Plus in these old designer diaires he talks about all the system-related improvements he made.

He's right to be embarrassed about the subpar quality of his work, but all the same, it's better than everyone else's. So it looks like Josh was Black Isle's best employee in addition to being Obsidian's. :smug:

That image- they don't even look human.

In before someone points out they're a dwarf and an elf.

It's the main character and a transsexual elf.

Don't you agree with me, though? There's something uncanny about their proportions and body structure- like cheap Second Life avatars.

Yes, they look very strange for whatever reason.

I guess they allocated resources away from modeling and animation and into writing a compelling story... er... creating a rich and detailed environm... hmmm... designing cutting-edge challenging gameplay with deep mechanics... ah... the branching dialog system offering true choice and con... sequences....

Yeah, I don't know where that money went. Guess it went to voice acting.

The Severed Hand was also good, otherwise your hero wouldn't have chosen to reuse it in the sequel. Who designed that?

It had some beautiful backgrounds, but the content itself was boring. IWD2 had a ridiculously short schedule at first (eventually turning into just a short one) so reusing maps from its predecessor makes sense.

As for who made it http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/28153-interview-with-damien-puuk-foletto/#entry243263
Reg "The Tornado" Arnedo made SH in IWD1. I think Steve Bokkes and Scott Warner did Upper Dorn's Deep. I did Lower Dorn's Deep.

Why would you say it was more boring than Dragon's Eye?

Dragon's Eye had fun fights. The lower levels of the hand didn't do much more than spawn a bunch of undead on top of you (including some bugged shamans who heal your people instead of their own; the fixpack didn't get all of them) followed by entering rooms full of elves in the higher towers. There was one fight I enjoyed where you had to deal with two shattered souls, a bone skeleton, and a serrated skeleton. Clearing out those elves had novelty the first couple of times before it settles into routine.

You didn't get bored by having to annihilate hordes of lizardmen, hordes of undead and hordes of Yuan-Ti? Oh and that weird filler level with the beetles and clerics of Talona.

The Severed Hand at least had a coherent theme and interesting architecture.

Dragon's Eye is the absolute shittiest, most grindy piece of boring filth in any Infinity Engine game ever.

Both areas are pretty boring frankly, their IWD2 renditions far superior.

Sawyer wants to end that... little does he realize, this sort of "cheating" is one of the most fun things about Baldur's Gate.

Sawyer is a control freak that can't into fun.

What's controlling about it? You can still kill whoever you want, you just won't get experience points. Deal with it.
