As mentioned earlier in this thread, Bloodlines is a great game, which didn't award exp for just killing. Although sometimes killing stuff gave more exp than the diplomatic option. An example of that would be that stone golem you have to deal with, IIRC. What I am more concerned about is that Josh Sawyer, in his fanatic zeal for balance, churn out something similar to 4E. Now that would be a sure way of ending fun for me.

There is no long range teleportation... with the exception of magic inventory sacks, which teleport stuff directly to the nearest city :P

You're a 360 degree-fag as well Alex? o_O

My, the two of us disagree on a lot, but I didn't think you agree with DraQ :(

I don't think anybody noticed, but... the change of the topic name makes it look like Anthony Davis made this thread with that topic name. Now we can quote him:

I am liking short-range teleportation, and i think people will be happy with the Paladin being less of a AoE guy. I wonder what he is about now though....

Well, I am a bit rotund, if that is what you meant.

My, the two of us disagree on a lot, but I didn't think you agree with DraQ :(

I can deal with games that have arbitrary restrictions on what you can do, but that doesn't mean I can't have a little fun at their expense. I am not saying the game should simulate everything, or that it shouldn't try to put in restrictions that make gameplay interesting. But it should be careful with how they do it, to keep the illusion of the game world logic. The idea you can't take back something you just threw into the general pile of the inventory, or that you can't stop for a few minutes to get it, sounds silly. You should then try to make sure the player has an idea of why an action that might seem obvious in a context can't be done, though I can't think of how you would do that with the inventory issue of this game.

Like I said earlier, if you're going to enjoy classes in this you need to adjust what you think the names mean. Rogue does not mean thief with a bit of fighting skill. It means fighter who specializes in striking vital points on a target.

Edit: for Blaine

I'm just being a twat at this point.

I'd say auras and such but with monks being masochists and barbarians being pest control, who knows.

I prefer coherence between my fluff and roleplaying system too. Although if Sawyer's genius is that great as Roguey imagine it, some abstract parts can be forgiven. I don't like things which work away from the main system. If there is a secret stash and you can place things in it, it would be better they throw at least some animation tricks in it, like a donkey from Dungeon Siege, or pets in Torchlight.

Forgive me for not being a staunch PE pre-development scholar, but can you cross-class in in PE?
No but from what has been said, character development is p. open. You can be a rogue specialized in two-handed swords or a paladin who shoops things with crossbows or a mage in plate mail.

I think Sawyer said he was taking inspiration from 4E commanders, which means manipulating enemy positioning. This could mean things like abilities like turn undead, maybe issuing challenges, maybe abilities like a shockwave they can send out that knocks all near by enemies away. Just speculating, and of course they have gone away from that initial inspiration.

Of course I'm lulzing. The joke's more on Bethesda for their ridiculous marketing tropes, but admittedly I'm kinda inclined towards a more d20 cross-class system. But let's be open-minded!

But it's nothing like TES. You won't be learning abilities from other classes but you can develop your character in some directions that are p. different from the regular archetype.
