40-ish isn't really a high turn rate. 40ish is a lame turn rate on an Escort. My cruiser turns 40-50ish. :P

Saw a funny thing on reddit:

Apparently Cryptic is sending out swag bags (t-shirt and stuff) including a golden D'kora to those superwhales, mocking thanking them for spending an ungodly amount of Dorrars on their game.

Why is that lulzy? People are posting they spent "about 5000$" playing on Steam and not receiving anything yet. I know from Neverwinter that Cryptic has no idea how much Zen you bought if you do that via Steam, since Steam only sends them a daily/weekly/monthly report how much Zen in total they sold, along with their cut.
There was already a lot of butthurt when people didn't get their rewards for spending some low amount of 10$, now imagine how that will be if 5k$ whales are left unrewarded...
Gonna make me some popcorn in preparation. The butthurt will be epic if that is still valid. +M

How the hell does someone spend 5000 dorraa on STO? I mean, I've spent a good bit of money over the years on STO, but I can't figure out *how* you'd find a way to stuff in five flipping thousands into the game unless you're just flushing cash down the drain.

Shopaholic, buying everything off the z-store probably. Or just... gambling addicts. Box #496 must contain the ship I want, amirite? Gonna be king of the universe for few days when I circle my Vengeance around ESD for hours. Everybody will be so jelly.

No kidding, I have seen a guy do that while leveling my AoY. Everytime I came back to ESD he was still flying it around the spawn point.

I don't either. I mean, that's more than the entire C-Store is worth. And yet somehow these people are still spacepoor...

How do you think most people get their fancy space shit? There are very few madmen like Norfleet that grind 24/7. Most pay2win. Or pay2shiny.

Millennials think game stuff is as good as real stuff and make you a better person. At least STO actually exists, how many thousands did idiots spend on Star Citizen that isn't even out yet?

Well kinda, I mean there will be whales but thats not healthy to depend solely on them, when you have about say about 500 people that contribute for say 70% of the revenue and 10 way ... thats going to have a impact.

I suspect what keeps afloat is actually the thousand that drop say about $1000 per year, I mean thats about lower that a sub and that does pile up, the whale hunting became a issue because it just leads to reassessment and bad blood, in the end, and this is what marketing doesnt seem to understand, goodwill is what makes people sustain a game ... look at Scam Citizen, the ONLY thing it can depend is on people giving them money, sadly they go after the "big spenders" that for each one they try to retain chances are they will drive away 100 of the smaller guys and lose money even assuming the whale stays.

You know, when you realize that the costs of keeping this game afloat (salaries, servers etc) are paid by only a handful of people, it really makes your head explode.
And making catfood turn-ins a 20h task, the constant "buy LTS now!" and sending out those goldplated Ferengitubs to make jelly others spend more, points towards those whales not buying as much as they should anymore...

I fear the Xbawx release is not just a move to "make more money", but "get back to making enough money". We'll see what happens when that version is... not as well received as they hope. Neverwinter's graphics were at least decent enough, but STO really shows it's age...

There's one factual mistake in this post tho:

Scam Citizen has no game to sustain.

Well the point is people are willing to spend money as in goodwill, when developers treat players just as walking wallets them they are unlikely to spend money and became more and more trapped into the Whaling circle were there is no escape.

A reminder, anyone playing or wanting to play ... create a TOS character NOW before the event is over otherwise you are effectively locked from endgame as you cannot upgrade your Rep Projects to Mk XIII UR for free.

:dead:

EDIT: The murderer was just the fact that I started to get this nagging feeling that "I've done this already too" all over the place while playing. So I'm on indefinate break for now, until I no longer feel like I've already gone past the final frontier.

Well you dont have to do it at once, I mean as long it exists you can do at any point, you just have to get then out of the TOS missions that at least are new and shinny and you only need one of them, unlike DR that needed 3 of them (then again, DR ended with the Breen and needed less unlock grind).

Sure its bad doing the Klingon War again, I mean Jesus ... even the Delta Quadrant starts to look appealing that doing that Arc again, they should had cut it for TOS and just had a abridged version with B'Vat Time Travel Shenanigans so its "are we done yet?", after that it goes smoother, hell you might end even maybe almost enjoying the DQ patrols.

I didn't mean it was just with the TOS character. I mean it felt like that all the time, an endless sense of having been there and done that already which just made everything dull and boring.

Stop talking crazy man!

But... since I skipped them on all but one char back when DR came out, they were ironically the "least overdone" missions on the road. And flying through a skybox made out of pink "texture missing" placeholders during the subspace corridor shit made them even memorable. :hahano:

I get it, its the same design ... sure might have different faces but its the exact same shit.

Cryptic isnt exactly inventive and pretty much follows the exact same mold, when they try to deviate they end up fucking up even harder because they assume we have means to deal with their crap and we arent all Wallet Warriors, this is why people hate dealing with the Vaadwaur because a lot of their BS cannot be dealt with and some cannot be dealt with period.

I would get the badge, THEN take your indefinite break. Otherwise, your indefinite break is a permanent one as you're locked out of the endgame forever, because EXCLUSIVITY(tm). You can afford to put in your half-assed hour or so of work.

Otherwise, I'll start the process of burying your corpse, as your indefinite vacation will become permanent and there will be no way you'll ever get back in the game.

Assuming you mean creating the TOS character and getting that thingamajig with the missions and collectibles checklist, yea I've done that.
