which ship/pack should i buy to get an up-to-date, usable, decent heavy escort ship for my nausicaan commande
Go Martha Rapetor or go home. Seriously, the Mat'ha is still best deal for a raptor (which qualifies as a heavy escort). :obviously:

Intelseat, 5/2 config. Dat nosecannon. Okay-ish trait. Vaguely resembles a Vor'cha. You need to go for disruptors if you want to use the nosecannon tho. Which is not a bad thing.
that's what i thought, it looked like a fine ship, but it's not part of a pack or a set or anything, i hoped for something... flashier. some serious, tremendous upgrade over my duvqu heavy destroyer or syfius heavy escort.

I doubt there even is some "serious tremendous upgrade" over the ones you named. They are already T6 boats, so the differences are more.. nuanced. Like the 5/2 setup on the Ma'tha. And the Xyfus comes with 11 console slots, making it the "fleet xyfus" already, requiring you to spend an extra 500 cybershekelz on a new boat to be comparable.

A real different approach would be the real pilot ships, who add the fancy pilot gimmick, like doing the barrel roll rolling around. I find the concept of those tiny ships outclassing cruisers in firepower so silly that I passed on the whole bullshit tho.

Another option, if you want to buy a pack containing a ship for all 3 factions, would be the Qa'Tel Flight Deck Raptor. It's pretty much like the Duvqu without the gimmicks, but one hangar pet instead. The pack has the T6 versions of the Akira and the Arrrrkif, which I considered best deal.

hmm maybe

when i watched some ds9 on tv it did not come so small ... it was decades ago tho so maybe im misremembering that bit
That's the problem when you make a scale replica of the TV set, while the TV crew tried everything to make it look bigger on the show. :hahano:

yeah

thats the falacy of goin for 1to1 set recreation

those sets werent made to be functional and good lookin station as a whole but to fit in the studio they were filmin in and to get as much bang for money spent ...

as is they sure should scale things up - i laughed when i had to talk to all those big wigs and all of them were standing in 2by2 closets baerly fiting anything ... at witch point blind recreation of some arbitrary plans trumps gameplay and broken immersion ? :)

You better not have bought fleet modules from the C-Store. NEVER EVER BUY FLEET MODULES FROM THE C-Store. Plus, I have like, thousands of the things.

So I have had it with Drakron's constant whining and have informed him that he is forbidden to speak until he has made the D'kora Alt I have ordered him to make. If anyone sees Drakron running his mouth again before he has, be sure to pop him one and tell him to shut the fuck up.

Well, at this late date and from what I can gather, his personal economy is an engine that practically runs itself. You just have to go around pressing buttons. Of course, enabling that required a lot of past effort.

Although I don't have the full picture yet, truly, I believe STO has achieved what must be close to the pinnacle of intentionally making a game obscenely top-heavy. Every single leveled-up character, every ship, every grind-able everything just accumulate over the years and are put to work in the ASS system, allowing veterans to make more and yet more of each pertinent currency with each passing month.

I mean, I expected this, but I didn't expect it to quite such an incredible extent. It's so absurd I have to admire it.

Now start to factor in the whole gamut of stuff newer players can't even get (okay, thanks to Phoenix box runs this isn't quite as absolute as before), and you come to the bizarre situation where old players will spend next to nothing or nothing at all, new players are actively kept out, which leaves a mystery WHO exactly is the target market. Is Cryptic aiming solely at fresh whales who are prone to counter-spite spending? Is this a secret niche whale market no one else knows about?

Never buy FSMs from the C-Store. They're so horribly devalued on the Exchange that you can buy basically anything else, sell it, and use the proceeds to get them with money left over. I mostly get mine by stealing them from fleet banks.

the ASS system
That's like saying "The ATM Machine". ASS is already a System: The Admiralty Ship System.

It's not quite as grisly as it sounds, but it REALLY helps if you know exactly how to work the system and prepared to focus exclusively on your economics FIRST. The trap new players fall into is that they want THINGS, and so they blow their capital on consumption and remain poor forever.

It certainly SEEMS that way, since every time I try to tell a player to do something sensible and not do stupid thing X, they tend to just fling obscenities at me. Then they blow their money and are poor. And so the cycle continues of them being unable to afford the things they want.

If not from the C-store, what's the best way to get them? I managed to find a project that would let me stuff my marks into it and now have enough credits for a fleet ship, but presumably it's not going to be so easy to get the modules.

Edit: I guess I could also try and get enough fleet credits to buy one without the module. I think that's a thing.

It's a classic catch-22 inherent to the great majority of F2P MMOs. Warframe was very similar in this regard. Ancient veterans, for the most part, demand an endless supply of stuff to keep them interested, and most of them don't pay a cent, or else buy a few things on sale occasionally; but without them, there's not going to be much of an economy or player base. You can't have a game populated purely by whales, because there aren't enough of them.

The older the game, the worse it gets, and yes, the fact that ancient veterans have gigantic piles of dragon treasure and the monumental effort needed to "catch up" become ever-larger deterrents. Some of that may just be perception, rather than actuality, but the effect is the same.

That isn't the point. The point is that there are a few paths to getting it, and this is the one that costs you the MOST money for the SAME end result.
