Oh yeah that's probably an issue with the internet connection. Then again maybe try later after the server maintenance, it might make a difference.

You could also send an angry e-mail to your service provider and Cryptic, telling them about your problem and how angry you are.

Well, some good has come from my enormous butthurt: Valkar now has the full Mk XI MACO space set, which grants him...

Well ... reason I have not been online is simple ... my power supply died and even after been replaced my computer is still making too much noise for my liking when running a game (I tried it recently when I got it back and it sounded like a 747 lifting off), its time to put it down to pasture.

Unfortunately I cannot do that just yet so I am not playing any games trying for it to last me at least one more month, should be back in STO after July ... sorry about this.

How are Carriers as ships for an engineer captain?

I always used Sci captains on them, but now I wonder. Is the lack of that Holofleet thing and the AoE defense boost that much of a difference? I find ground combat to be much more fun with the engineer (I am a total turtle T_T) and I always go with ultra-defensive support beamboats/turretboats on my carriers (and almost everything else, to be honest), so maybe the tanking's better or some shit.

So, tell me. *puppy eyes*

Well, generally the captain's class doesn't have anywhere near as much importance to how your ship plays compared to equipment and Bridge Officers (especially Bridge Officers), so any captain can run any ship. The captain abilities take a loooooong time to recharge. Still, Engineers get an "oh shit" tanking ability in Miracle Worker (essentially a 100% heal of hull and shields most of the time with a 4 minute cooldown).

Hehe, I do love me some miracle working. I bet Laforge could have used that one in orbit around Veridian III.

Still, engineers don't get the subnucleonic beam which is basically the only way to beat some of those nasty escorts.

That's true, though it's really like that only because every weapon except dual cannon types are so sorely underpowered they just can't deal the damage needed. They really need to add some capital ship weapons for cruisers.

Oh I can just imagine the reaction if they actually made beam weapons useful for something, especially from Klingon players. Like a million hurt butts crying out in unison.

The only real alternative they'd have would be just to give cruisers a whole lot more weapon slots and power supply. I'm pretty sure the guys at Cryptic know the current situation is fucked up (hence PvP overhaul they're planning), but I'm also fairly certain most of the people testing and posting about it are fervently trying to keep this Escorts & BoPs Online.

Yep, the official STO forums are full of people bitching about "OMFG it's so unfair that cruisers have EIGHT weapon slots olololol" but failing to mention that those weapon slots don't give it anywhere near the firepower of a ship a tenth the size with only 7, or that the extra shield strength is completely negated by the escorts having tons of tactical BO slots for tac teams and the like.

And of course the fact the shield strength and addition defensive BO abilities completely fail to overcome the more than three times superiority in firepower said escorts have.

Thank both of you for the answers. Engineer it is, then.

Now to see what happens first: I convince my dad to buy me an Atrox + Point Defense System + Enhanced Plasma Manifold, I use both free character slots to scavenge enough Dil to get at least the Atrox before my suspension from school ends, or he decides to declare MMOs forbiden because I got too bothersome with the buymebuymebuyme.

And since we are at it, is there a way to get plasmonic leech or aceton assimilator on a Fed character? Like, can I get it on my klink and send it to my fed? My dream carrier build back when I was playing the first time required both. :(

Still, engineers don't get the subnucleonic beam which is basically the only way to beat some of those nasty escorts.

Though subnucleonic beam is kind of a pain to use with a carrier's epic turning rate. Chances are that if you can get it to work under those conditions the enemy wasn't good enough for you to need it.

Sci captains who enjoy Sci vessels kind of swear by it, though.

Yep, the official STO forums are full of people bitching

I'm very sorry but I just had to do that.

I love MMOs, and I play a lot of them. Yet on all of my MMOing years I never saw a community so full of bitching aspies as STO's own. @_@

Well, there is a random drop from Ferengi lockboxes that grants enemy faction consoles, which means you get to spend 100 CP for a chance to get a drop which gives you a chance of getting the console you want... So I'll say that in practical terms there isn't a way of getting such.

You can also buy those consoles from exchange for couple million ECs so won't have to waste money on lottery.

By the way, how in the nine hells does everyone have such ridiculous, insane, massive truckloads of EC in this game? There's weapons listed on the exchange for 150 million! The most I ever had was just under 2 million and I've played the damn game for over 200 hours (according to Steam at least). Same with dilithum, I've only managed to get 40k, which I spent on a console eventually. What the dealeo yo?

They've probably accumulated the money on by buying the cardassian- and ferengi lockboxes to get galor and d'kora ships, and then sold them on the exchange. Also some players have played for two over years which makes it easier to accumulate shitloads of EC.

Generally it's by selling those ridiculously expensive items. For example, I have recently made over 40 million just selling Mk XII consoles on the Exchange. And I got 74 million for a Tuffli Freighter unlock pack (used to buy a Ferengi D'Kora Marauder, will be used by a Ferengi character or sold for profit).

With Dilithium, it's pretty easy though: 1 CP = 330 Dil.

Hmmmm, I could use that electric blast console on the Odyssey (death ray addiction). How much are those?

No idea, but can probably be found from exchange by searching with "requisition console"
