It's not that it bothers me, it's just, why? Why switch to another currency again? And will our C-store points be converted?

Well, basically the switch is because of Chinese Overlords wanting more exposure to STO and CO players.

EDIT: Btw BC, you haven't posted your character name and handle so you can be invited to the Codex chat channel and Fleets.

So do we have to pay for a starbase, or is it free to existing fleets?

Mmm.. It seems Escorts are completely different. Fleet escorts are now Blockade Escorts, and Fleet Escorts are improved versions of that, available only to fleets.

Well, don't worry about the starbase. I'm more than ready for getting that ball rolling.

Also, what was your ingame name again Zarni? Weren't you patriarch?

Well then, there's one thing that's been troubling me, helpdesk and others: You never say anything in the chat channel.

Well usually I'm busy grinding for equipment in PvE, or fightan in PvP with my Klingon, which is in another fleet. I try chatting but it's not really possible in the heat of battle. On weeknights I mostly just log in, change duty officer missions and log out. I get up very early in the morning so I don't really play much games anymore. If someone talks to me directly, I do reply.

By the way, who is helpdeskman, because he's always logged in. Always.

Yeah, I'm Helpdeskman.

Edit: and I'm not always logged it, must a be bug. I see Matt125 (or something) as logged in all the time.

Also, the D'Kora is a cruiser, it's ill-suit to being a torpedo boat.

It also bears mention that the Lobi missile launcher is actually weaker than photon torpedos, someone ran the math for it and it kinda sucks compared to regular torps.

I will never understand Cryptic, then. I mean, they go and give a kinetic damage based special ability to the one kind of ship that's never spec-ed for kinetic damage? :?

Anyway, doesn't the Lobi missile launcher have a much wider firing arc?

Though yeah, that's the kind of mindset only a cruiser or carrier would have. Both escorts and sci vessels don't need to care that much about firing arcs.

EDIT: Btw BC, you haven't posted your character name and handle so you can be invited to the Codex chat channel and Fleets.

I'll post my main character here once I stop deleting characters every other day and finally start having one. :P

Actually, Accurate is better than Elusive. Generally traits don't matter that much though, only a handful (Accurate, Peak Health, Lucky, Acute Senses, Soldier; %-based stuff like that) have an effect that can be noticed. And Efficient Captain itself is perhaps the most overrated trait in the entire game, providing just as little benefit as most other purely skill point Traits. At best when combined with multiple other bonuses to your (obviously maxed out) Warp Core Efficiency skill it'll get you +1 to your low power levels, maybe even +2. But that's expensive and not worth the effort. Warp Theorist is maybe slightly better, but because there isn't a trait-retrain yet (Cryptic keeps saying they're planning on one), I can't run tests whether or not it's worth it either (I'd swap it for Nerve Pinch for Valkar and Peak Health for Skar).

Actually the most powerful Traits are either %-based or a bonus to things like Critical Chance, Perception or Expose Length. Some ability Traits like Pounce or Rapture are also very good, Pounce is essentially like having an additional, more powerful Lunge. Obviously stun abilities with massive recharge like Mind Meld are pretty shit though.

And yes, the Missile Launcher has a 180 degree firing arc. However, because Cruisers and Carriers are short on Tactical slots and they do not provide a significant firepower increase, not to mention a ship can only mount on missile system (and cruisers need a rear system as well). So it's better to have something like a Hargh'peng or a Quantum torpedo for a Cruiser, depending how slow it turns (an Odyssey or Bortasqu are obviously better suited for the high reload time and innate AoE + secondary blast of the Hargh'peng). Carriers that aren't escort/cruiser hybrids should skip having projectiles in favor of a beam broadside to support fighters with.

The D'Kora (I have one, but haven't unpacked it yet) is a very solid and highly maneuverable Cruiser. Perhaps the most maneuverable thanks to Battle Mode. Actually it doesn't have a projectile specialization, the only extra element it gains from the enormously expensive Lobi set is the ability to summon a special freighter that gives unique duty officer assignments while in Sector Space, and that set isn't specific to the D'Kora (only the Battle Module 3000 console is, and it isn't part of the Lobi set, it comes with the D'Kora).

PS: You can give any character with your handle, actually. The chat channel will be available to all your characters (both in STO and CO) automatically, it doesn't have selectiviness, and we already have alts everywhere in the two Fleets anyway (encouraged to a degree, actually). Same thing with friend invites (so we all know when anyone is online), it's account-wide.

I have signed up for Tribble months ago, I suppose I just have to do it ... just being careful since after my power supply blown up and I dont want to stress my old computer until I can get a new one (its too old to just upgrade).

Honestly I feel bad not being online ...

Alrighty. Then add...

wuxing@thatwhichisnot

She's my klink space demon from the Warp Gigerverse. Once I make my Fed character I'll give you the name (probably Wuming) so you can add her to the Fed fleet.

Edit:

Just keep in mind once my suspension from school ends and I stop being depressed I may not be online as much as I am now, and that most of the time I am online I am actually working out or studying next to the machine so I may need a long time before noticing someone did talk to me, in case fleets have limited places or something.

/edit.

I only ask you guys one thingie: Back when I joined this forum I was young(er) and stupid(er). So, uhm, please don't let it slip in the game where I am from, that I am a girl, or what my real name is (if you know it). I have much more fun playing online games when people see me as a nameless and formless blob of pixels and weird mannerisms, not to mention my dad is kind of paranoid about the internet being full of crazy sociopaths and kind of overprotective so most of the time I am about -this- close to being banned from playing online games altogether.

You are right, I'm sorry. I just can't help but see them all as part of a single "set". I'll fault my collector side.

Anyway, it's the battle module's swarm missile I was talking about when saying the D'Kora seemed to be thought for Kinetic. Though it being a cruiser kind of puts a stop to the idea, yes. :(

Do you know what level is needed to queue that planetary mission?

Also, is Tribble always this awesomely lag-free and fluid or is this the effect of the next patch? (please, be next patch! T_T)

Actually, it's because Cryptic upgraded their servers a few days ago. Anyway, sending you the invite to KDF fleet shortly, and send the chat channel + friend invite. It'll come from a character by the name of Skar, and the fleet name is SabtaHbogh wo' Duy'a (Klingonese for "Harbingers of the decline that continues with no end in sigh").

To accept the chat channel invite, go to Chat Settings.

All this stuff of torpedos and dps and 5000 different abilities and weapons sounds awfully complicated. I'mma have to go study it a bit. Looks like the end-game has a lot of depth, not just certain cookie-cutter builds being viable.

Thanks for the advice, though!

Well it depends what you want to do.. pretty much everything is viable for the story missions and fleet actions/STF's. But if you want to fight anyone in PvP, you better be an escort/Bird of Prey with the right abilities, or be able to stay out of direct fighting, or get used to dying a lot without being able to do any real damage.

Like Vaarna said, I don't think they'll change that anytime soon. Escort players, now accustomed to their near-cheat powers, would rain down a shitstorm the likes of which the world has never seen.

A random question: When you buy uniform sets, Boffs, and doff sets in the C-Store are those added directly to the corresponding menu or do they appear in a box that can be traded?

I was just checking my old characters to canibalize their equipment (to buy contraband, mostly) and noticed I have some pretty big stores of dil in some of them, which is kind of a shame to let go to waste.

As far as I have noticed from people bitching it seems the advanced runabout pets for the Atrox are kind of screwing a bit the status quo with their eight tractor beams II and eight sets of chroniton torpedoes poc-ing per carrier. Now we have to see if Cryptic changes it.

I hope they do not, just to spite the escort jocks. After so long having PvP broken in their favour is about time they get screwed instead.

Hey, it's not just escorts. B'Rel Birds-of-Prey Retrofits are the only cheatships in the game, as they are literally untouchable while able to attack anything at whim as Torpedo boats (with Attack Pattern Beta and Transphasic Torps, they can chew up anything). ONLY a handful of ships and Science captains can detect.

Still, this season is supposed to have a PvP reworking, so maybe they'd even touch up on ship balance. Maybe one day we will see Cruisers as proper capital ships and Escorts/BoPs as the Rogue Squadron. Hell, it's even possible that the change might happen, even the sky-covering mountain of KDF butthurt about EVERYTHING didn't prevent a Federation Carrier.

Btw, I'm going to lol so hard if the eventual Romulan Faction doesn't have Battlecloaks, since Romulans are supposed to be even better at the cloak business than Klingons (after all, Klingons bought the technology from Romulans, and if you ask Romulans they've invented everything first).

That's the beauty in Cryptic MMOs. Even if there are certain builds that are unbeatable in PvP, overall there is an amazing amount of flexibility and variety in builds. I wouldn't have 18 fully leveled Champions Online characters if it really didn't have such variety in playstyle nuances.

Recently I tried out further optimization on the USS Gombe Stream in my quest to hang out with Escorts as much as possible. Currently I've managed to increase my firepower considerably with return to using Beam: Overload (II to be exact) as a regular attack, Attack Pattern Beta instead of Omega (what the hell am I going to do with tractor beam immunity anyway?) and addition purple Projectile Weapons Officer on active duty for twin chances of 5 second reduction to Hargh'peng Torpedo reload time (Hargh'peng saves me from needing Torpedo abilities, as it has an innate AoE component and secondary blast), and a custom-made power allocation preset for max Auxiliary power for Graviton Beam. Currently I've clocked at 14k damage with Hargh'peng critical, 12k with Overload critical and 8k+ with regular Graviton Beam.

On Ground, I've had much better success. Valkar now has Vulcan Roundhouse Kick Of DOOM! in his arsenal, dealing 214 damage regularly to Borgs on melee criticals (with three purple Security Officers on that, it means base crit chance bonus of 24% and 75% severity bonus, 26% and 95% with a proper weapon like his Jem'Hadar Pistol or Omega Force Antiproton Carbine).

Premium BOffs come in packs you can trade between characters (or sell on the exchange), I don't think the Reinforcement Pack can be traded though. Uniform sets are account-wide and from the moment of purchase available at tailors and character creation menus. Personal recommendation is the Jupiter set, it's got fantastic boots and jackets along with sleek selection of boot-high pants skins; the KDF Academy set is also helpful for many non-Klingon KDF characters to diversify their extremely limited style options. Valkar uses the Jupiter set and Skar has the KDF Academy set on him, for example.

It also bears mention Cryptic Points bought with Dil are not tied to character, just STO.

You can shuffle dilithium between characters. Put it up for sale on the exchange at a high CP price so it doesn't sell, then cancel the offer. That character's dilithium will be put in your general exchange pool and can be withdrawn by any other character on your account.

Easy peasy.

Hell, it's even possible that the change might happen, even the sky-covering mountain of KDF butthurt about EVERYTHING didn't prevent a Federation Carrier.

That's a good way to describe the KDF's general attitude, yes. :P

Though they kind of have a point, I would be pissed too if the KDF still were my main faction.

But I have a mercenary heart and the only reason I was there to begin with where the carriers.

Btw, I'm going to lol so hard if the eventual Romulan Faction doesn't have Battlecloaks, since Romulans are supposed to be even better at the cloak business than Klingons (after all, Klingons bought the technology from Romulans, and if you ask Romulans they've invented everything first).
I'm going to both LOL and Q.Q so hard when the Romulan faction comes out as a mini-faction we have to buy in the C-Store and with only ten levels of actual game content, if what they were saying just before I left is true. The butthurt will be delicious.

My own included.

Thank you very much. I guess I'll get me some keys or some Boffs once I see how much I have on each account and to buy what I can round it up faster.

And you have good taste. The Jupiter uniforms, along the Section 31 ones, are my favorite "serious" uniforms, they look badass in all black with silver or golden markings and badges. And while I guess some may call me a "Societal Stockholm Syndrome sufferer" or something because of it, I really like both the Mirror Universe uniforms too.

It's a shame I can't get the male boffs on my Fed ships shirtless like I can with some of the KDF ones: All the girls in mirror uniform variants and all the guys shirtless, and everyone hot. They would be like a spacefaring idol group, bringing civilization, in the form of fashion and pop music, to all corners of the galaxy.

It also bears mention Cryptic Points bought with Dil are not tied to character, just STO.

I kind of have about a dozen old accounts, and most of them I have yet to manage to enter. I don't even remember which ones had the good stuff.

And the few good stuff I found was mostly bound so meh, had to sell it to buy more contraband instead. :(

At least I can mail me all those doffs and fuse them into better qualities.

Easy peasy.

Thank you very much. That's going to get quite useful once I get my Carrier and need to start buying the advanced pets.

In other news, has someone here managed to use Photonic Fleet to any quantificable result? I was checking one of my old Sci Carriers and I still don't see whether or not it is any good. In normal it does not seem to make difference, but doing the Kahless Expanse daily in Elite I kind of managed to agro three squads at the same time and somehow claw a victory out of it with 4bops + Photonic Fleet + that ship you can call in emergencies + my tanky carrier, and given how ridiculous Elite gets when you are high level now I do not know whether my judgement of it being "cool but useless" was justified or not. @_@

It can be useful if no one shoots seriously at them, as they do provide additional firepower.
