Hey, it's not just escorts. B'Rel Birds-of-Prey Retrofits are the only cheatships in the game, as they are literally untouchable while able to attack anything at whim as Torpedo boats (with Attack Pattern Beta and Transphasic Torps, they can chew up anything). ONLY a handful of ships and Science captains can detect.
Still, this season is supposed to have a PvP reworking, so maybe they'd even touch up on ship balance. Maybe one day we will see Cruisers as proper capital ships and Escorts/BoPs as the Rogue Squadron. Hell, it's even possible that the change might happen, even the sky-covering mountain of KDF butthurt about EVERYTHING didn't prevent a Federation Carrier.
Btw, I'm going to lol so hard if the eventual Romulan Faction doesn't have Battlecloaks, since Romulans are supposed to be even better at the cloak business than Klingons (after all, Klingons bought the technology from Romulans, and if you ask Romulans they've invented everything first).
All this stuff of torpedos and dps and 5000 different abilities and weapons sounds awfully complicated. I'mma have to go study it a bit. Looks like the end-game has a lot of depth, not just certain cookie-cutter builds being viable.
Thanks for the advice, though!
That's the beauty in Cryptic MMOs. Even if there are certain builds that are unbeatable in PvP, overall there is an amazing amount of flexibility and variety in builds. I wouldn't have 18 fully leveled Champions Online characters if it really didn't have such variety in playstyle nuances.
Recently I tried out further optimization on the USS Gombe Stream in my quest to hang out with Escorts as much as possible. Currently I've managed to increase my firepower considerably with return to using Beam: Overload (II to be exact) as a regular attack, Attack Pattern Beta instead of Omega (what the hell am I going to do with tractor beam immunity anyway?) and addition purple Projectile Weapons Officer on active duty for twin chances of 5 second reduction to Hargh'peng Torpedo reload time (Hargh'peng saves me from needing Torpedo abilities, as it has an innate AoE component and secondary blast), and a custom-made power allocation preset for max Auxiliary power for Graviton Beam. Currently I've clocked at 14k damage with Hargh'peng critical, 12k with Overload critical and 8k+ with regular Graviton Beam.
On Ground, I've had much better success. Valkar now has Vulcan Roundhouse Kick Of DOOM! in his arsenal, dealing 214 damage regularly to Borgs on melee criticals (with three purple Security Officers on that, it means base crit chance bonus of 24% and 75% severity bonus, 26% and 95% with a proper weapon like his Jem'Hadar Pistol or Omega Force Antiproton Carbine).
A random question: When you buy uniform sets, Boffs, and doff sets in the C-Store are those added directly to the corresponding menu or do they appear in a box that can be traded?
I was just checking my old characters to canibalize their equipment (to buy contraband, mostly) and noticed I have some pretty big stores of dil in some of them, which is kind of a shame to let go to waste.
Premium BOffs come in packs you can trade between characters (or sell on the exchange), I don't think the Reinforcement Pack can be traded though. Uniform sets are account-wide and from the moment of purchase available at tailors and character creation menus. Personal recommendation is the Jupiter set, it's got fantastic boots and jackets along with sleek selection of boot-high pants skins; the KDF Academy set is also helpful for many non-Klingon KDF characters to diversify their extremely limited style options. Valkar uses the Jupiter set and Skar has the KDF Academy set on him, for example.
It also bears mention Cryptic Points bought with Dil are not tied to character, just STO.
