Another thing that is bad design and I see them change it is the one type of support per character. That shit is so bad with limiting build variety and puts GGG in a position where if they don't change it there will be need for way, way more supports to be created. Why can't I put a 200% Stun threshold support (Unstoppable) in more than one skill? The tradeoff is already baked in the socket limit and using one of the five for some utility is a good choice to have. I understand that you can have the problem of +Damage on all skills, but that is not really true for PoE2. There are clearly skills that are pure utility and set ups so you naturally don't want to put damage supports anyway on top of the fact that they removed 90% of them. The other problem is that there is no useful supports for any of the skills that are not designed for direct damage, you end up not putting more than 2 supports even if you want as there are skills that don't even have 5 usable supports, like the Invoker Avatar has max 4 supports.
The solution as I see it is to pick the ones that they think are problematic to be spammed and put them in the already created 3 tiers of gems. So the first tier can be used freely, the second tier only 2 per character and the 3th tier one use only. It becomes kind of convoluted maybe (not that it's not already) so they should just remove the restriction and see what people abuse and act according to that.
Yeah, they need to do something about this. It really railroads you into certain choices. But I suspect they plan to fix this by adding more skill gems rather than more systematic fixes.
They really have to work on the skill game interfaces btw., especially when they inevitably add more.
For instance, the window that opens when you click an uncut support gem lacks a list of skills that are supported by each.
For support gems that are already "cut", there's an mouse-over list of supported skill gems, but it does not contain skills granted by items or other gems.
