PoE1 had lore out the wazoo if you were paying attention. It wasn't the most amazing lore ever but it was somewhat logical and interconnected.
And the really good voice acting made you care about it. Dialla and Grigor in particular stood out for me, I felt sad for them and wanted to understand their story.
If I wanted to take an actual stab at PoE1 again, what's the best way to do it? Standard league to go through the base or whatever season is going on and then... through the campaign or directly into the seasonal thing?
Playing the current season will be the same as the campaign in standard, except that you will have on top the current season mechanics. Once the season ends your character is transferred to standard. The seasons mechanics that were popular are ported to standard, so if you play in standard you will interact with the content of past seasons, but you encounter them less than when they were the current season, otherwise the game would become bloated (e.g. during a season you will interact with its content every 5 min, but once it is ported to standard you only encounter it once every 30 min). You will also have the content of past seasons while playing the current one.

I don't really see a reason to not create your character in season mode, if you find the current season stuff annoying you can ignore it and you would experience the same content as in standard.

If you play in standard you will not have the current season to distract you as a second story not connected to the main one, so maybe it would feel more natural. But you cannot transfer your character from standard to season.

Nothing will ever hit the feels like old POE act 1-3, I guess.
True, PoE1's narrative was great with Dominus as a villain, and Piety as a thorn in your side. It felt more horrific, had more weight.

PoE2 feels more staged, despite appropriate grimdarkness, it feels a bit like you're going through the motions. Like they're stalling a bit, like every boss is just a means to an end rather than a true villain. PoE1's acts 6-10 were a bit like that too, but they had all that iconography of Innocence and Sin that was more interesting than what happens in PoE2.

Basically the issue is that the PoE2 villains have made no personal connection to you. Dominus exiled you. Piety fucks with your plans. But PoE2's Oriana is just there, we know nothing of her, there's no link to you. Just a cuntish noble. The player has no emotional engagement.
Pretty much this. POE had a number of characters with very personal stories made memorable by their voice acting and soundtrack associated with them. Nessa in Lions Watch, Piety in Lunaris, Dialla in Solaris, Dominus in the tower of God... The grand scheme of things didn't matter that much, it was only the backdrop to a very personal jourmey.

Even still, the Beast was much more intriguing when it was only vaguely hinted at than when you ultimately encounter it. And now they are carting it around the place in a cage like a circus attraction? I expect it will be the final boss of the game when act 6 releases. It would be right in line with their trend of going, remember that ancient character we told you about in lore? Yeah, now fight him!

Being in the middle of a map fighting while some jerk wanting to buy shit from you sending you a popup to join party could get one killed.
Wish I'd thought of that years ago. Whole lot of assholes with shit listed for sale they never respond to that deserved a few dozen random popups as a reward.

You can only do that once. They click ignore and no more popups forever.

Spot on, that shit started with Voll, who like Dominus was presented to the player from the first act as a major figure in the world and you fallow his story thru the acts until... you kill him in the first area in act 4 as a slightly tougher rare for the PoE's flavor of woke the Maraketh

T15 minion stream is basically unwatchable. Not that 1 was not turd. Basically I'd let go any dev that opts for runtime shader stuff fwiw. If stuff like this gets delivered it doesn't matter anyway.

This style of game is dead. Much like an immune system to a virus, the human brain built up a tolerance to loot hoarder games. I don't believe it's a simple matter of POE>>>>>>Diablo or vice versa. I believe all of these games have become useless, as every fading dopamine hit in any addiction. They both suck. It's time to return to the simple days of Diablo 1.

I don't know if this was obvious for everybody else, but you can direct the second slam from Rolling Slam by clicking again in the direction you wanna go.

Yeah or SC:BW for more involved minion gameplay. There isn't even equivalent of luring enemy into lurkers etc.

Even Fallout3 used to have equivalent of that with landmines.

Todd could own this whole AAA fiasco with a Fallout3 remaster now, ridiculously.

The problem is that the loot has become the point of these games and everything revolves around it. The devs can't find a justification for getting loot, so it's all for its own sake, which makes it boring and pointless. These games need challenge content that can only be done with good builds and good gear, like Grim Dawn has.

I can't believe that I am saying this, but man do I miss Labs. Whoever came up with the Honorary system, and the fact, that the later Ascension trials are Ultimatum based can go to hell. This shit is so fucking unfun, it's not even funny anymore.

Anyone else having constant lag 'stuttering' the last few days? I can see the ping in the menu spiking every couple seconds. Making the game unenjoyable to say the least.
