That is the most generic fantasy theme I have heard in quite a while

EDIT:

Didn't we already go this through this with PoE? MUH BALDUR'S GATE EXCITING DRUM MUSIC

This kind of main theme for a fantasy RPG is nothing new:

Sure, of course it's generic. I'm just disputing the characterization that "This isn't what a main theme sounds like".

tbh even the nwn2 soundtrack stands out as inspiring compared to that Kingmaker theme. It's what I'd reference if I ever needed an example of generic fantasy music

I'm used to Infinitron defending complete garbage in unreleased games when I'm arguing with him, but it's strange to see him defend complete garbage in unreleased games while arguing with Grunker.

In fairness, Pathfinder is extremely generic in and of itself, being essentially vanilla modern D&D with a spritz of mint and a slice of lime to fool the youngsters into thinking it isn't just plain old vodka.

You will never experience a theme as cool as the Baldur's Gate II main menu theme again in your life.

You will never experience a soundtrack as unique and unexpected as Fallout's soundtrack (tribal/dark ambient—who the FUCK knew what that was in 1997? high-caliber nerds, that's who) again in your life.

Acceptance leads to serenity. Serenity leads to inanity. Inanity leads to death, which is the only escape from the sad truth that you will never recapture the glory years of computer gaming, not even if your name is Infinitron and you defend certain games very, very hard.

Vodka sells still as good as ever.

It does, but outside of Eastern Europe and Russia, that's only because they added three hundred thousand fruit flavors to disguise the fact that it's vodka and hook women and gays on it.

It's a self-evident truth.

I've never been much of a fan of Baldur's Gate 2's main theme. It does, however, have character, and is consistent with the other music throughout the game. That is probably more important in terms of music design.

That said, I think this game's main theme is barely competent. It's enough to set the mood, but the central melody is forgettable, unlike better pieces like Planescape: Torment and Morrowind. Coming from Inon Zur, it's pretty typical.

Since people brought up Neverwinter Nights 2, they should mention the MoTB title theme, which is among the best in terms of how it develops the original Neverwinter Nights 2 theme:

I wasn't a fan of the original Neverwinter Nights 2 theme, but I loved this piece.
