Got a run going with a Beast Tamer Bard MC and it's really an interesting archetype:
The good:
(1) Like Inquisitor archetype Monster Tactician you get a ton of free casts of minute-per-level Summons that scale by fast progression instead of your usual hybrid slow. Unlike Monster Tactician you get the implemented Nature's Ally Summons instead of the unimplemented Summon Monster ones. Even the Mite you start with gets DR 2/Cold Iron. Soon you get Leopards, Boars, Manticores, and Smilos. Cam also gets Nature's Ally Summons and wants the Conj Focus for her Stinking Cloud.
(2) Augment Summoning as free Feat at lvl 2 (!). This is pretty big for Bard which really doesn't want the usual Conjuration Focus pre-req. Equivalent of two free feats in any case. On the other hand it's hard to tell if it's even working and I suspect it might not be. Mite is still only getting +1 STR bonus with it. Also takes care of prereq for Superior Summoning.
(3) Inspire Song buffs you, your Pet, and Summons and eventually gives them Magic Claw (later Greater) and the Monk-style damage type progression to bypass DR. This is pretty important since Summons can't wear equipment (Amulet of Mighty Fists) and it's impractical to buff them individually.
Add all that together and it's a potent package. Angel would probably be ideal to buff them further with team Sword and fighting with MC using Angel buffs, but I'm due for Azata and that gives the Summons (and Aivu!) TW Feats (and lets MC cast instead). Once MC can ride Aivu I'll pick up Battle Meditation since I can re-up the Morale bonuses with it after the initial Summons with Good Hope have died, and only need Standard Action.
Downsides:
(1) Inspire Ferocity doesn't buff rest of team (like Inspire Courage). Minor since you still have Inspire Greatness/Heroics if you want it and you've still got Fascinate.
(2) Lose Dirge. Not something I use much now that Songs don't stack. Can just Dazzling and eventually use Frightful Presence.
Off to a good start as first Summon gets in the killing blow. Seven (!) free casts of min/lvl Summon at lvl one is a big help in those early lvls. Turns on Flanking for Seelah and Cam.
I'm playing with default experience sharing and no reloads so Core is fine for Maze. Will probably kick it up to Hard at lvl 7 (when Good Hope shows up) and stay there.
