So is anus going to return to old-fashioned artillery? And when are we getting us MAJESTIC StuG IIIs?

getting hindered by bad weather and enemy fighters sucks...let's hope the next mission will be better - and soon.

Talking about majestic weaponry I wants me a 88mm PaK 43, those things are absolute monsters. Though I have to admit the StuG III is a pretty nice piece of hardware as well.

Starving for an update, eh? That was the plan actually.
No, seriously, I got bogged down with work. Need to translate 20 pages worth of an automatic shitter technical specs for tomorrow morning. After I get my shit together, an update will come, somewhere in the early afternoon.

So is anus going to return to old-fashioned artillery? And when are we getting us MAJESTIC StuG IIIs?

Yep. Old-fashioned artillery it is, at least for now. In PG3 the only two stats that are crucial for arty is range and number of attacks each round. Anything less than 3 range is actually suboptimal in practice.

StuGs should be around in a mission or two, thouh I'll see about the stats. I've been sticking to the 88, because of it's impressive range.
As you'll see in the coming update (teasing much), kindergarten is officially over and we need to use the best shit if we want to pull major victories.
Which we want, major victories mean moar promotions and additional unit slots, which means more people can join the fun.

K. Got my shit together on time. Update time.

We go for Moscow men, that much is certain. The Red Army has plans to threaten our flank.
It seems prudent foil their plans and move on until winter strikes.
LP001Pre1.jpg

Fuhrer notices our lack of performance lately and is stingy with medals this time.
LP001Pre2.jpg

Ten turns for a major victory. Thankfully, we have a bit more time than the last time.
On the other hand, we have three objectives to capture.
This may necessitate that our forces are split into two Kampfgruppen yet again.

First, we welcome new blood in our ranks,
LP001Pre3.jpg

Mr. Cassidy the Anti-tank guy
:mca: approves of this appointment to the 88.
:salute:

LP001Pre4.jpg

Heinz Katz gets a new toy. I cringe for a bit at the 8 strength, but that's the pain of using prototypes.
Anyways, the Air attack and Air Defense stats are stellar, which is what counts here.

LP001Pre5.jpg

The map for this scenario looks like this.
Difficult terrain ahead. Heavy wooded areas and many meandered river may block our path to the objective.
Thankfully, the objectives are neatly located so that we have a reasonable chance of taking
a few secondaries along the way.

LP001Pre6.jpg

We deploy. AI usually place the arty first, since we always get the first turn.
And what matters is that it ensures our arty can reach enemy lines, should the scouts make contact.

Speaking of which...
Scouting reveals enemy positions just nearby. The wh40K tank, a ZIS AT and a fearsome KV 2B

Bee.jpg

Hwavy armor blocking our advance just up north.

Thankfully, it seems that in PG3 the most "advanced" tanks are often understrengthened, which means they are much easier to kill. You can fuck about for an wntire turn until you kill a strength 15 T26, while a strength 8 KV usually takes but a few airstrikes.
LP001Scout1.jpg

Anus.jpg

Plotting artillery, ready for pre-emptive shelling.
LP001Scout2.jpg

Guderian.jpg

Proceed. Feuer frei!
LP001Scout3.jpg

Due to the river bottleneck, we cannot really get close enogh to use the ATs
LP001Scout4.jpg

With level 6, Katz receives a new veteran order.
Pretty useless, unless we try to shoot us some infantry under AA watch. Which we won't.
For the record, the previous two are:
(o) Cautious attack - ignores reserve fire on enemy aircraft (sometimes results in more kills, sometimes it doesn't)
(o) Scouting run - increases the spotting range. Very useful.

The situation on the front is as follows:
LP001Sitrep1.jpg

Bee flanks the enemy positions and camouflages. It's actually pretty safe, as the T35 is thorughly shelled and will most likely lose the next turn on refit.
Gondolin scouts the road. No enemy detected.
This time, Merkwürdigliebe will secure our starting objective.

Hidden movement...
Bee.jpg

Infantry, enemy ATs moving at your current position
Guderian.jpg

As the proverb goes, if one sows rapeseed...
LP002Surprise1.jpg

HooDoo.jpg

Komm Schweinhund, Ich sehe grosses Schwanzlust in you!
LP002Surprise2.jpg

HooDoo.jpg

Ziel verbrennt.

Meanshile, serrated nails a LaG33 trying to retaliate.
LP002Surprise3.jpg

We strike back. The T35 is thoroughly shelled. HooDoo gives it some heat...
LP002Surprise4.jpg

And hellraiser mops up with the captured T34.
LP002Surprise5.jpg

We scout the perimeter around the first objective.
LP002Surprise6.jpg

Psychic.jpg

Enemy anti aricraft neutralized. Requesting support.
Guderian.jpg

Authorizing Fallshirmjaeger
LP002Surprise7.jpg

LP002Surprise8.jpg

Azira.jpg

Securing aifield next to objective.

Meanwhile, Heinz Katz kills the offending LaG33.
LP002Surprise9.jpg

Yeah, that's what we get for using the 8 strength aircraft. With air combat results being pretty random,
the Fw is already 25% damaged.

LP002Sitrep2.jpg

Sitrep time.
We're on the first objective as planned. Artillery is in place and we're ready for an assault.
Scouts were sent ahead. Bee finds the KV that ran off on us, and Gondolin secures the road to the city to prevent reinforcements.

So, guys, I'll just leave youe here for the time being, Skyrim gotten downloaded and all...
K?

Ha, you really thought I'd be stopping for the next gen crap when there is still much potato to liberate?
In truth, I'm runningo into Internal Server Errors here.

We will assault soon, but first the enemy takes their turn.
JoKA.jpg

Kommand, we're being bothered by enemy MiG
LP002Assault1.jpg

At the same time, Bee meets face to face with the KV. Ouch.
LP002Assault2.jpg

Bee.jpg

Drat, they got lucky.

Indeed, they KV stopped its movement right next to Bee, revealing their camouflaged positions.
LP002Assault3.jpg

The MiG is quickly removed by combined effort of Serrated and Heinz.
LP002Assault4.jpg

LP002Assault5.jpg

Guderian.jpg

It appears that drunken ruskie sailors are settled in this town. Flush them out men.
LP002Assault6.jpg

Cassidy.jpg

Permission to lead the assault, General!
Guderian.jpg

Granted. Gott mit uns, Kameraten
LP002Assault7.jpg

CAssidy shells the drunken sailors to oblivion
LP002Assault8.jpg

And the town is quickly taken. For decisive action Cassidy receives a commendation.

Gondolin.jpg

No fair.

LP002Assault9.jpg

The T60 nabbed by Gondolin quickly buys the farm, courtesy of Carius

Guderian.jpg

Recon, I want intel on the secondary objective.
Gondolin.jpg

Reporting on enemy positions. The resistance is miniscule.
LP002Assault10.jpg

Guderian.jpg

Gut. It seems feasible to take it.

Guderian.jpg

We are at the crossroads here. We need to split our Kampfgruppe.
LP002Sitrep3.jpg

LP002Road1.jpg

Reinforcements arrive unexpectedly. We'll use tham as city garrison.
Had I known it, Merkwürdigliebe would have advanced with the main group.
Guderian.jpg

Merkwürdigliebe cleared to proceed and randezvous with Kampfgruppe 2.
Merkwurdig.jpg

Blood!
Psychic shells the infantry on our way, and we move forward to take the objective.
LP002Road2.jpg

LP002Road3.jpg

Paratroopers move in to capture the airfield.
LP002Road4.jpg

Heinz Katz mows down a straggling IL
Katz.jpg

Squadron strength at 50%, it is advised that we withdraw and resupply.
LP002Road5.jpg

HooDoo moves north to scout the second main objective.
LP002Road6.jpg

The KV is a tough cookie. JoKa is damages and the bombing runs are not as effective.
LP002Road7.jpg

Meanwhile near the secondary.
Guderian.jpg

Hmm. This proves to be a nuisance. Raze it to the ground, artillery.
Psychic.jpg

Proceeding.
LP003Road1.jpg

LP003Road2.jpg

Heavily dug in, 15 overstrengthed partisans.
Azira.jpg

We'll be here all day.
Carius.jpg

No we won't. Artillery, I want support.
Cassidy.jpg

Firing at target. Damn, they're still there.
LP003Road3.jpg

And finally.
LP003Road4.jpg

Carus takes the town. No treat for him
Cassidy.jpg

Fotze! Don't know when to die
LP003Road5.jpg

LP003Road6.jpg

Guderian.jpg

We cannot allow them to regroup.
Gondolin.jpg

I am on it.

LP003Sitrep4.jpg

Current situation is as follows, we are split into 2 Kampfgruppen, Anus, Garf, Merkwürdigliebe, Bee take the eastern route.

HooDoo secures tha advance to the north, thankfully, no ambushes along the way. The plan is thus, Gondolin stays to fuck with the partisans, Psychic, Cassidy, Hellraiser and Carius move to the objective.
Once our reinforcements randezvous with the main group, they will be assigned as garrison.

HooDoo spots some enemy movement in the north.
LP003Move1.jpg

HooDoo.jpg

The enemy appears to be moving to reinforce the right flank.
Bee scouts the secondary, minimum resistance is seen.
LP003Move2.jpg

LP003Move3.jpg

The KV is finally reduced to scrap by Garf.
LP003Move4.jpg

JoKA.jpg

Moving over to resupply, fighters, please assist.

LP003Move6.jpg

Next turn, Gondolin finally gets rid of the ruskie peasants.
Gondolin.jpg

Took me the entire day chasing them through the fricken potato field.
In the enemy turn, Garf assisted by anus ambushes the incoming T34
LP003Move5.jpg

Merkwürdigliebe and Serrated finish it next turn.
LP003Move7.jpg

LP003Move8.jpg

WE begin siege of the secondary objective.
LP003Siege1.jpg

LP003Siege2.jpg

Bee.jpg

Should be good, I see only limited resistance.

Guderian.jpg

Kampfgruppe 1 begin offensive on the objective!
Katz.jpg

Conducting reconnaissance.
LP003Siege3.jpg

JoKA.jpg

Bombers moving in to disable enemy armor.
LP003Siege4.jpg

Azira.jpg

Dropzone is clear. Fallshirmjaeger deploying
LP003Siege5.jpg

LP003Siege6.jpg

LP003Siege7.jpg

Azira.jpg

Fallshirmjaeger reporting, the airfield is secure.
Guderian.jpg

Textbook aerial assault, men

HooDoo probes enemy defences, revealing the presence of enemy artillery.
LP003Siege8.jpg

HooDoo.jpg

Reporting in, no casualties, sir.
LP003Sitrep5.jpg

The assault goes as planned.

Hidden Movement...

LP003Bother1.jpg

Partisans attack our auxillary tank. Fuckers must have tactician, as they injure it badly.
Guderian.jpg

Negersheisse, where did that komm from?
Guderian.jpg

Enemy attempting flanking maneuver. Where did that infantry come from?
LP003Bother2.jpg

LP003Sitrep6.jpg

Situation after enemy movement - our auxillary Pz IIIG is badly shot up.
We have multiple contacts incoming to meet our advance.

Merkwurdig.jpg

Let them come. We will blast them to meet papa Lenin.

Three turn for a major victory. The final assault is underway. Keep your fingers crossed.

Psychic.jpg

Opening fire at enemy gun emplacement.
Psychic.jpg

Supressing town defenders.
Psychic.jpg

Paratroopers, they're all yours.
LP004Assault1.jpg

LP004Assault2.jpg

Azira.jpg

Minor objective secured. I am honored to serve.
LP004Assault3.jpg

LP004Assault4.jpg

This is our panzer, damaged by the partisans last turn.
LP004Assault5.jpg

Meanwhile the other flank.
Anus gives a good shelling to the enemy units attempting to flank us.
LP004Assault6.jpg

Merkwürdigliebe takes the objective. Higk Kommand recognizes his valor.
LP004Assault7.jpg

The enemy is driven back.
LP004Assault8.jpg

Meanwhile, Carius moves in cautiously to capture the major objective
LP004Death1.jpg

JaKo silences the Artillery and HooDoo assaults the city from the south.
HooDoo.jpg

Little room for maneuver here. It'll be tight.

On the other flank, we setup our positions for an attack. Merkwürdigliebe deploys and is screened by camouflaged bee.
They shouldn't see us coming.
LP004Death2.jpg

Guderian.jpg

What the... how did they?
Bee.jpg

We're being overrun.
Guderian.jpg

Hold fast, support is on the way.
Guderian.jpg

For fucks sake, where did all that come from?
Bee.jpg

We will hold!
LP004Death3.jpg

Bee.jpg

Gott in himmel!
LP004Death4.jpg

Guderian.jpg

NOOOOO!

RIP Bee. First casualty of the war.
LP004Sitrep7.jpg

Merkwürdigliebe managed to secure a foothold on the other side of the river. The terrain is difficult, slowing our advance.

Unaware of the tragic situation on the other flank, Carius proceeds with the assault.
LP004End1.jpg

Azira takes the objective.
LP004End2.jpg

Err, danke shoen herr Fuhrer. We SURELY need yet another 88.

Back to the other side...
Anus.jpg

I will pound your sorry anuses to fokking oblivion!
Merkwurdig.jpg

We're dug in and deployed. They won't get past us.
Guderian.jpg

Don't let bee go unavenged men. Press on!
LP004End3.jpg

Anus.jpg

Fuck, we're being flanked
LP004End4.jpg

Anus.jpg

God damit, I am spent!
Merkwurdig.jpg

Mutter Fickern, bring it!
LP004End5.jpg

Merkwurdig.jpg

Bring it! I fucking dare you! I'm taking you all with me
LP004End6.jpg

RIP Merkwürdigliebe. You will be missed and your valor will not be forgotten.

Garf.jpg

I'll rip these fucking comies a new one
LP004End7.jpg

Garf.jpg

Die, die, die!
Garf.jpg

Ha look at them run.
Guderian.jpg

Disengage for fucks sake, do onot overextend.
Anus.jpg

Fool, you're outside mi firing range. Go back!
LP004End8.jpg

Katz.jpg

Luftwaffe proud to assist.
LP004End9.jpg

Bomber is down. Should be a bit safer here.

No it's not.
LP004Fin1.jpg

Garf.jpg

Shit. Shit. Shit.

Guderian.jpg

Lost contact with our panzer division. Wheareabouts of offizer Garf unknown.
Guderian.jpg

Our offensive is crippled here. Waiting for assistance from the other Kampfgruppe.
LP004Sitrep9.jpg

Major victory is forfeit. We still have a few turns for regular victory though.
It will be tight, still.
LP004Fin2.jpg

LP004Fin3.jpg

We got flanked by filthy peasants again. They came out seemingly out of nowhere.
Our artillery is out of action for this turn.
LP004Fin4.jpg

We quickly mop up the advance to the objective.
LP004Fin5.jpg

LP004Fin6.jpg

The road is clear for Carius and Hellraiser. We have full artillery support. Nothing should go wrong this time.
And it better won't cause it's the last fricken turn.

:salute: What about a cast line-up every few updates to show how the prestigious army officers are doing ?
Yeah, I was planning to do so at the end of this update. Almost done quickly shopping together a scoreboard with all the kills listed at the end of the scenario. Will be doing that once every few updates.

An important question:

Surely this game doesn't try to make T-35 into anything else except an utter piece of shit?
I used one at the very beginning of the Konev campaign. Quickly ditched it. The mobility is atrocious, making it useless in combat. Although, other stats looked semi-decent.

An challenger appears. The lone KV desperately attempts to halt our advance.
LP005done1.jpg

Guderian.jpg

Press on! We need that city. We need the potato.
An artillery barrage by anus and psychic commences.
LP005done2.jpg

The defenders cower.
Guderian.jpg

Pioniere, flush the maggots out!
HooDoo.jpg

Will do, Kommand.
LP005done3.jpg

LP005done4.jpg

Hellraiser.jpg

Mopping up, securing the objective.
LP005done5.jpg

And lookie yonder. Our very own pet KV.
Guderian.jpg

Er.
Guderian.jpg

Anybody wants it?
Guderian.jpg

We're running short on Panzer, just sayin'.

LP005done6.jpg

We liberated 1850 potato. Could have been worse. At least kills went up this time, but Isense the Fuhrer
will not be pleased.

Debrief time
First thing first. We shall forever hemeber our fallen brothers. Their gene seed will be preserved to breed
the next generation of fine Aryan warriors.
Viking-Funeral-4d024c5075f3b.jpg

K. It's cool to drool over the scoreboard now.
Scoreboard.jpg

This was a tough one. I admit, I got cocky after quickly rolling over the bottom half of the map.
Unfortunately, I forgot that the AI has a habit of pulling stuff out of its ass near the map edge,
where its deployment zone is.
But, that's not an excuse. I'll have to conclude that the AI isn't that bad as I thought first, it is capable of flanking and lining up its assault in an intelligent sequence. the problem is, it seldom has the resources to do so. With the upped difficulty, it has an expandedl leader pool to rely on near the map edge, but that'd be the only place where it can really shine.

There were also difficulties in advancing due to difficult terrain, which slowed our attack near the end. With hidsight, I could have split our forces differently, perhaps splitting the luftwaffe more evenly. Unfortunatelt, I assumed the central objective will be more heavily defended.

Ok then. So, Anybody calling dibs on the KV? We're short on good armor, so it'll be a waste not to use it. Garf lost his ride, but is MIA, so we'll see him again in the next scenario.

Speaking of which, a sneak peek.

Winter's Wrath
LP005done7.jpg

We move on to Leningrad. The winter's here, so it'll be a tough ride.
LP005done8.jpg

We're grinding to a halt. The Fuhrer is not pleased. We desperately need a success.
LP005done9.jpg

We also got a new toy from the Fuhrer. Hopefully it'll appease the AT fans. although, tbh, the 88 still has better combat stats.

LP005done10.jpg

This is our next objective. I predict heavy resistance at Smolensk, so no dicking about. Primary objectives come first,
we'll take the others if an opportunity presents itself. Especially, the objectives near the SW and NE map corners will have to wait.

We got some reinforcements for this scenario, including the 18cm.
LP005done11.jpg

LP005done12.jpg

LP005done13.jpg

Ok, so this is it for the time being.

Patrol
Cost: 1 action. Duration: immediate. Moderate increase in sighting range. Cannot be
taken back and the effects are seen immediately.

Hull Down
Cost: 1 action. Duration: lasts until you move. If you move before combat and after
issuing this order, it is rescinded automatically. This order provides a moderate
increase in the defenses of your unit. It cannot be rescinded if the unit has been
involved in combat. Best used prior to attacking the enemy and can be used in conjunction
with entrenchment, but watch out; if the enemy has the high ground it becomes ineffective.

Aimed Fire
Cost: 1 action. Duration: effects are immediate. Normally the effectiveness of shots
taken by a unit diminishes with each successive shot. Activating aimed fire resets the
effectiveness of the shots to 100%. Best used after multiple shots to finish off an
enemy. This order cannot be taken back.

Wedge Attack
Cost: 1 action. Duration: through your next attack. The wedge attack gives a large
bonus to the unit’s attack. The order cannot be taken back after combat. This can be
very effective if used in conjunction with aimed fire.

Blitz Attack
Cost: 1 action. Duration: through your next attack. This is basically a wedge attack
(large bonus to the unit’s attack) with the added benefit that the unit can ignore the
presence of the enemy for post-combat movement. It cannot be taken back after a
move or combat.

I would ask for the tank, but I'm guessing you're playing with restrictions that allow only the most basic actions when commanding out-of-specialization.

We'll see about the reincarnation. Right now, I've got enough spare officers to burn through, but there's no telling if the casualty rate is maintained (not really in our interest, so I'll do my best).

@ Johnny the Mule
Yeah, you get Aimed Fire, it's pretty much what it says in the manual. Ultimately, I'll try to go to wedge attack for at least some of our tnak crew, but right now the promotions are scarce.

I would ask for the tank, but I'm guessing you're playing with restrictions that allow only the most basic actions when commanding out-of-specialization.
Unfortunately yes. With hindsight, it might have been better to turn that on for the sake of the LP.

On the other hand, I would have to spend an extra time explaining who is who. This could work with 3D Assault, where the task force is a lot smaller than in SE.

I'll post the update soon-ish, I'm sorting the screenshots as we speak, then I'll play the second mission to give me some material for a larger update.
