Ok, so the young drake fight in the ruins. Is it just me or is it overtuned on PotD? I only have Eder and Xoti with me and, while it's not *impossible* in general, it's impossible if RNG isn't on your side and you don't abuse chokepoints. That's with using all kinds of consumables. I'm tempted to go back in town and hire 2 other mercenaries just for this fight.
I recommend the merc.

It is the most difficult fight in the game by far since you practically have no resources/spells available. Only fight i needed to replay more than once and use consumables.

Also if you didn't see it: there are a couple of explosive barrels, use them.

That's why it's called PotD. It took me two attempts to beat this encounter with my fully custom party. I use the more narrow ramp as a choke point and try to additionally block it with summons from a chanter (skeletons, at that level).

Casuals can still sneak around the whole encounter. When you progress the main quest from inside the dungeon, the area above will be cleared when you are back outside.

Two years from now Grunker will write a retrospective calling Deadfire + Forgotten Sanctum one of the greatest RTwP RPGs and everybody will get mad at him again

That's how codex operates. It is just how like geniuses gain recognition in the real world, only when they are dead. Codexers refuse to accept a masterpiece has been released, until a few years have passed and sales have been so low that we never got a sequel or similar game... Happens every time.

Remember, Baldur's Gate was once considered decline...

Forgotten Sanctum is incredibly good, can't even compare to previous DLCs.

This whole dungeon is very well designed. I think I barely scratched it and it already has great encounters and REALLY fun boss fights. Don't remember the last time I had this much fun in a videogame.

is being the best of the worst actually an accomplishment?

I did it after a very successful bout of RNG, my two scrolls of Fan of Flames managed to affect all the panthers for full damage. Then I killed the drake using the sabre modal of all things, probably the only place I'll ever use it, lol. But yeah, pretty ridiculous fight if you are only with Eder and Xoti.

Yeah, I figured as much, I was actually thinking about hiring a Druid/Wizard mercenary and steamrolling the encounter, but I was determined to beat it "legitimately".

It's more like the Codex is full of nolstalgia fags.

Older games are idealized, and newer games are scrutinized under a microscope unless they're underdogs.

Originally, the fight was filled with just four panthers, but now they added the drake and boar too. Anyway, the companions' stats are bad, thus making the companions shit; better hire custom mercs if you play PotD.

Welp, the game is bugged up the butt again. When I go back to Vilario's rest to talk to the governor's people about getting my boat up to snuff, Eder's intro dialogue triggers and I can even choose what class I want him to be again. And it just loops like that.

I have started a PotD playthrough with Galawain challenge.... Man, even with custom characters this was hell of a fight. All the panthers got the Volatile effect which meant that whenever one died a fireball went off. One such explosion could OHKO anyone on that low level. You can't outrun them to try kiting. I had to pull as few of them at once as I could and use only my tank in melee range at a cjoke point, everyone else was using ranged attacks. Once most of them were down I had to pull the boars and bats(?), boars had the exalted effect meaning they had a permanent Tier 3 inspiration while the bats had the Vengeful, so as I killled the 2 last exploding panthers they got stronger while the boars were basically killing machines. And when I thought I might actually win after lots of retries my whole absolutely battered party was oneshotted by the drake, which had the Prowling effect which means it was invisible until it attacked my whole team with a breath weapon. So I had to use a full party of optimized characters with every possible consumables and cheesy tactics before I could move forward. :D Was good fun, had to try ~15 times, haven't seen anything this challenging in RPGs so far

the drake + panthers fight in the Eng ruins is probably the single hardest encounter in the entirety of PoE 2.

Enjoy it, cos after everything is cake.

The Drake fight isn't even the hardest on Maje Island. That would be Gorreci Street.

The hardest fights in the game are in SSS and the megabosses. Those are challenging even with a full level 20 custom party and legendary equipment.

I just skipped the looters even with Aloth and went straight for the quest NPC. The ranged enemies do too much damage and the wizard spams some kinds of Minoletta's, obliterating anyone they target. I'm fairly certain you need a min-maxed custom party for it.

SSS is not difficult, I made it through without reloading once, using story companions, not using consumables, food or summons. Some of the Mega bosses are difficult though and I shouldn't have said that the drake fight is the most difficult in the game, it is easily the most difficult fight of the main path though and probably outside of the megabosses if you only use story companions (the street fight is a contender) and don't intentionally seek out very overleveled content.
