area looting should be in the backer beta update btw ~* #pillarsofeternity
Look at the bright side - most of the BB community will be able to try it out and vocally denounce it as a shit mechanic. I hope we convince them to cut it out from the final game.

So, any guesses on what's the next step? I'm thinking about auto pickpocket radius. I mean why not, saves you the trouble of walking up to NPCs, right.

I have few "grognardy" requests, and an individual looting system would be one of them, but area looting isn't, in any way, shape, or form, something bad.

Seriously, what's the issue? I'm going to be a little annoyed if they remove completely the individual looting system and don't let it stay as an option, but area loot the only thing it does is making looting quicker by not making you go from corpse to corpse.

Personally, I get a feeling of reward when looting freshly killed corpses. And they are taking that away now.

The majority will prefer area looting. We may be able to mod it out, as we keep all of the code from previous versions. Bester has the right to be the most angry though as he is the guy that will have to change it back.

BTW Area loot did not make it into the BB

Adam Brennecke said:
I don't think the area loot got into the Backer Beta build on time. But it will make it for release. The new BB is a few days old at this point (and not today's build), thus the confusion.

Hm. Thanks for info. I guess, as a new feature, it will be full of bugs. So we can still try to propose possible changes even after release...

For me it's basically just an ease of life feature that does no harm whatsoever. I have no real attachment to the feeling of looting each body individually.

If you open basicly the whole map's loot containers, than it is shit.

This was one of the greatest features of Jagged Alliance 2.

Number of people/containers I individually looted in JA2: Fucking zero (though you do have to open the containers first).

Well it was a useful option but I rarely used it. For me it was like: I killed a group, I looted them. Then I killed another group, I looted them. I haven't waited with the looting until I killed everybody on the map and looting everything at the same time.

I like area/AoE loot.

With area loot, they could make the loot glows a little more discreet too.

No, just look at this thread, most people love this modern crap.

So, any guesses on what's the next step? I'm thinking about auto pickpocket radius. I mean why not, saves you the trouble of walking up to NPCs, right.
Heh, I guess they didn't tell you... poe has no pickpocketing lol, cause it goes against Sawyer's definition of fun.

By the way, I was looking at some related mechanics - such as methods called when you steal from somebody's chest, and it'd be possible to mod pickpocketing in based on those mechanics.

You can mod in additional skills (pickpocketting, etc)? Or would it use existing skills for the check?
