If you guys find someone streaming it, let us know. We like to watch.

:whatho:

In all seriousness, this isn't for ratting out purposes, it actually is interesting and helpful to us.

Also, as press starts to come out, please let me know so that I can pass it on to the team.

After seeing those awesome monks and pistol-wielding rogues... did anyone build an overpowered chanter yet? Still don't have a clue what their optimal roles/attributes should be.

So did the Codex get an advance copy for review purposes? Seems only fair to let Sensuki and Roguey do a joint review.

:troll:
I don't think so. maybe. if we did, I haven't heard about it, and I'm not sure if anyone would want to play it before the day0 patch hits.
and we're all backers so we'll be getting codes anyway.

we generally don't get codes from mid/big-sized devs/publishers. we don't contribute to meta critic scores, we don't censor users and we've got more press ethics than self-proclaimed blogosphere journalists. so needless to say, big publishers have very little interest in us.
however, lately, we've been getting a lot of codes from small devs and PR houses.

Fucking Australian internet :negative:

Is the game hard enough for you to be able to create un-viable builds or is it all just about making you party kick ass in a different way ?

You can certainly make things more difficult for yourself - I recommend spreading your attributes around and making an unfocused build, then it will be more difficult for ya

I'm not entirely sure I approve of the streaming embargo ending on monday. Even if it's just the first act, I'd like to be in the dark as much as possible. But... the hype...

We are 7 days away from release. :bounce: Can you imagine this guys? One week.

I thought I can wait a few weeks until the first patches fix the most important problems, but I won't be able to keep myself away from the game.

I almost never watch streams anyway, so it won't be hard to not watch streams.

I'm probably not going to watch much of it. I would like to see Anthony play for a bit, I've never heard his voice before etc - but I'm not gonna watch what I haven't seen yet.

I can hardly bear the wait. Actually feels worse than the wait for New Vegas - I actually forgot about it a few days before release, so when the CE came I was a bit surprised. I hope it'll be the same for PoE so I won't be thinking about it constantly for the next week.

I wonder how many easter eggs and obscure references they've thrown in. Already come across this one leaked from an early prototype build:

Pillars of Eternity: And Now For Something Completely Different

We have something of a sense of humor and there are more than a few people here who love the old game NBA Jam. So as a hilarious homage to that game here is BIG HEAD mode for fun. Additionally, in the spirit of showing a little levity we had the team answer some of the more...interesting questions the community has asked of us recently.

Question: Are there otters in the game?

Brandon: No, but we are thinking about adding wereotters as a druid form in the expansion.

What is Tim Cain's best recipe?

Tim: I'm going to go with the Darkest Rauatai Cookies. Those puppies are so dark and so rich. I defy you to eat more than three at one sitting. And if you sing the song "The Final Countdown" while replacing the lyrics with "The Darkest Cookie", it might be the best culinary experience that you ever have.

Question: How long exactly is a dragon's flight from Lac Dinneshere?

Eric: Way longer than it should be since they eliminated all the direct flights to cut costs and now you have to do a 5-hour layover in Cormyr.

Question: How many pennies has Adam Brennecke surrendered to Josh Sawyer over the course of the project?

Adam: I have not surrendered a single penny of broken promises from my pocket to Josh over the course of this project. Over the years working with Josh, I've learned my lesson the hard way not to guarantee anything when it comes to discussing things with him. He will make me pay for it, one penny at a time.

Question: How many active cats are in the game?

Josh: If you don't include stelgaer and druids in spiritshift form, there are four pet cats you can get. However, for me there is only one choice: The Cutest Cat. (see attached image for answer)

No I just tested it with a Level 4 Adventurer on a Level 1 Adventurer. Was doing like 2 damage on grazes because slash is shit vs armor, but the x2.5 crit damage is lafs, and that's with 10 Might ... Hearth Orlan Rogue build incoming.

There's a fair bit of choice here actually

18 Might, 18 Dex, 12 Int - could probably dump some other stats but whatevs.

Blinding Strike, Reckless Assault, Dirty Fighting ... etc

Talents

Bloody Slaughter .... then take your pick I guess - Two Weapon Fighting, Vulnerable Attack, Weapon Focus Knight, Vicious Assault ...

And proceed to mace the shit out of people. Nice.

I must look closer at incorporating Bloody slaughter in my dual wield build. Especially if I already load the weapons with accuracy enchancements it synergizes nicely.

So at lvl 4- two weapon wileding (for the incredible +20% speed), bloody slaughter. With maces/sabres Vulnerable attack might even be left for lvl 6 - the extra Penetration/+3 damage sabres have carries it on.

Considering this is further dmg stacking - maybe even sabres will be better at it.

So, reviews for this game are going to begin showing up three days before its release.

That's three days for shitty game journos to bash it for being "another Bugsidian disaster" for minor issues and destroy its launch. This game's opening better be tight tight tight.

Bloody Slaughter would be pretty nasty on Druids - cast a debuff AoE and then stack an AoE that targets the same defense on top of it - with those OP damage ranges that's some lmaos to be had right there.

edit: yep

It is more important the game is not disappointing to people who are waiting for it eagerly - this way Obsidian can always go to KS to fund the sequel. I also believe a favorable review by Angry Joe has more impact on sales these days than mainstream gaming press coverage (and he seems pretty excited). But again - this will only work, if he does end up disappointed (I have no idea in his RPG tastes, apart from 'top 10 reasons why fallout 3 kicks ass' meme).

That's true only up to a point. If a whole bunch of mainstream sites trash the game, that WILL hurt it.
