I'm for bolder spell FX myself. These look more modern, but they're also more bland.

I think they said as much before.

The only person who's said that is Roguey.

I tried asking Sawyer about it and he didn't reply to me. That usually means they don't know yet/don't want to commit.

For my part, I don't see why they wouldn't release it on Steam Early Access. The game is already available for pre-order. There's nothing "bush league" about that. All the AAAs do it.

So, what, you think that when the beta comes out they should then STOP offering the beta pre-order? Right when the game is at its highest pre-release hype? That makes no sense.

Early Access for this game would either need to be overpriced (so that backers aren't offended) or available to all backers instantly (D:OS style).

I am personally not interested in playing this game before release, so I would prefer the former, or no EA at all, but I wouldn't mind if they went the D:OS route either. Whatever works best.

I've also backpedaled on this, I don't care to look up where I saw it, but I'm pretty sure they more-or-less confirmed they'll go for the Free Money and Publicity approach.

Obsidian will definitely do Steam Early Access

Brian Fargo will have already told them it's EZmoney

The beta will probably be more like a demo.

I like the lore (esp. the chanters) and the spell effects look good, if a little low-key. A good update. I want to play this game, now.

It seems to go against Sawyer's tight ship style, but that's the only thing I can come up with.

In the world of Eora, priests do not gain power directly from their deity, but from their belief in the deity and the tenets of their religion. Paladins share a similar source of power, but differ from priests in the intensity and nuance of their beliefs.
I wonder if that means priests and paladins can become fallen and lose powers like rangers and paladins in IE games.

Kickstarter update said:
For priests and paladins played as the main character, their Holy Radiance and Faith and Conviction power will shift based on their behavior. Reinforcing their deity's or order's preferred behavior will gradually increase their power, while playing against type will cause a small diminishment in their power. These changes are not dramatic, but reflect a measure of dissonance between the character's stated faith and how they choose to conduct themselves.

I think, that's all they will have in store regarding the particulate issue.

Thanks for pointing that out; I didn't read the update yet.

On a related note, has Obisdian announced how alignment will work yet?

There is no alignment, only reputation and disposition: http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Disposition

What is your reasoning for that?

That said it is true that it is not impossible. Steam Early Access may give them enough to have a longer beta, which they may need. The money from that has been pretty vital from getting D:OS and WL2 from "ermmm" to "getting there" status.
