I strongly suspect that everything you know about Shadowrun came from wiki...

Your assumptions about my P&P experience is becoming real boring, real fast.

Ok, I stop assuming right know. Explain the reasons behind a statement that, in the eye of a long time SR player, looks like a gynormous bullshit. I'm all ears...

In the games I've played, roughly all characters fall within the adept/magic-user/tech-savvy/gun-specialist roles, because these are explicitly supported by the system. Rather than complete open-ness, you get variations over these themes, or, at the most, hybrids.

Well, in the games I (and I suspect everyone else in the world) have played, to cover more than a base with your character is the smarter thing to do. Aside from that, there isn't a single rule in Shadowrun/Arcanum that encourage specialization, except, of course, for the magic/tech stuff.

Anyway, that's my last comment on the system-debate since:

Sorry bro, but this discussion just isn't interesting to me. I think it's completely meaningless to call these systems similar in the same way that calling a flat-screen and CRT monitor similar is missing the point. We can go back to debating the flaws of Arcanum or PS:T, but discussing whether Shadowrun and GURPS are similar isn't particularly enticing to me.
Yeah, probably is the best thing to do...

This is like that thing I was talking about with the Europeans and their cargo cult understanding of role playing games.

Don't mean to be rough, Rogey, but having a different understanding of role-playing games than you, here, is condidered a badge of honor from Americans and Europeans alike :asd:...

Well, I admit that if the popular opinion in the 'dex were the kind of delusions I've heard about Shadowrun, I'd be glad to stay in the minority group... Still a long run to Rogey, though :asd:...
