I wish someone would scream at Josh something like 'WHY DO YOU HATE MAGE DUELS SAWYER?'. And then threw birdseed at him, yelling 'Lightning Bolt!' - berating the foolish developer for forgetting to cast Globe of Invulnerability. 'WHERE IS YOUR <DIVINE BEING> OF NO HARD COUNTERS NOW?!'.

Fallout 2 wasn't an RPG?

Fallout 2 had the romance to end all romances. Why else do you think it's so high up in the Codex top 70?

I don't know if you're drunk too, bro. Maybe. But it was a joke. Or maybe you were joking too. Hey who knows, I don't.

I don't know... were you joking? You wrote, "No romance no RPG." which is either an ironically funny thing to say or a stupid thing to say.

I find the Romance complaints mostly inconsequential. In all seriousness, I am actually able to watch the whole debate and be amused by both sides - mostly by how much they take this all so seriously.

This, however, causes me to rage:

Don't get me wrong, I know this game will be perfect for some people. New and old. But I have a feeling that most new gamers will not actually like it based on the way games work today. And I also feel that old gamers look back with rose-tinted glasses, drowned by nostalgia, and then they'll realize they don't have the time to play a game as in-depth as this one these days with their busier lives than when they were teenagers for Baldur's Gate.

Again, I know it will be perfect for some, but I feel the majority will be surprised.

The Nostalgia argument has to die.

I would classify it as just ironical. Let me put it this way: I care about romances about as much as Bethesda cares about canon.

I am not complaining about people complaining about the lack of romance. I love it. I mean it - it makes me chuckle. Ho ho ho.
You are best dev.
"while you can see your character standing in place doing nothing, is rather awkward."

No. Wasn't awkward in PST.
That obviously depends on the type of interaction, there's a limit to what conversation windows can convey in a satisfying way. AoD for example would benefit from something similar to what PoE is doing since it puts a lot of focus on this kind of interactivity. By making content in forms of art more text, sounds etc for the text interactions you further emphasize that this is an integral part of the gameplay and not just some gimmicky throwaway shit that will only be used a couple of times. It makes perfect sense to spend effort on it, especially since your players might complain about teleport gameplay or that there isn't enough game. The non-binary consequences is another thing that shows that effort was put into this. So I don't see how this could take you out of the game when this is the game, or at least a part of it. It's a world's difference from Bioware's cinematics in any case where the player is reduced from an active participant to a passive onlooker every now and then when Bioware for example wants to show environmental interactions.

Or how about this mechanic - love is the ultimate weapon - the more people you romance, the more power you have when fighting the final boss.

Sounds like a sword of STD, which incidentally should have been the Codex-designed weapon

OkOkOkOkOk - the more people you romance - the more STDs you acquire, the trick is to stay ALIVE while becoming a walking incubator of sexual plagues.

Then you meet and TRICK the final boss to merge with you, ala DX:HR or ME:3 and then they absorb 1,045 STDs from all these various worlds and then they die!

You would be a hero/heroine AND a pariah - as you both destroyed the universe ending final boss AND became the Typhiod Mary of STDs to the whole universe as well.

That would actually be pretty cool.

Anyway - enough fun.

If you like BG and BG2...
If you like Darklands...
If you like Torment...
If you like IWD and IWD2...

Chance are EXTREMELY good that you will like PoE.

The Sword of Venereal Goodies has a percentage chance to summon a Penisaurus on hit. That chance is modified by the amount and quality of STDs you have.

I believe it's just the MC

It depends on the scripted interaction. I asked Josh on Something Awful about this a while ago. Sometimes it's the PC. Sometime's it's the character that interacts with it (ie. can be anyone) and sometimes it's the whole party. There are apparently degrees of failure as well, such as if you miss a check (by not having a score below a certain threshhold) that character can be injured (status effect, probably -stats), among other things.

Thanks for this positive answer to my interrogations.Seems well designed

No. Dialogue trees are better. Period. I mean, that is basically what this shit is except it gives you a so called 'fancy' and 'hip' and supposedly 'cool' graphic. Big. fukkin. deal.

And what's wrong with a nice picture? Fucking unbelievable that you have to cry about a feature like this. You have your dialogue tree, plus you have a nice transition picture.

Wasteland wasn't an RPG?
Fallout wasn't an RPG?
Fallout 2 wasn't an RPG?
The Ultimas weren't RPGs?
...
Seriously? You think that without the ability to play kissy face with an NPC the game suddenly stops being an RPG?
You could have hetero-male-pandering sex in these games. There were a few gay ( ) options in some of them too.

Sex and romance are too different things
