The expansion is going to take ~6 months to make. Again, according to the maths and the studies, 6 months is too long. So the decision was made to break it in half and get the first half out earlier, followed by the second half.

I'm going to be truly surprised if this makes it out before September.

Story sounds shit. Basically just "here's another quest not really related to anything." I wanted something exploring the fallout concerning the gods post game. Oh well.

Josh gave his reasons for why it's not a post-endgame xpack at SA: only people who finished the game would play it, and that's a small number.

It could have been post-endgame standalone DLC. That way the xpack would be:
  • playable by everyone, including those people who didn't buy/play PoE in the first place (let alone finish it)
  • high-level content by letting the players start from level whatever and spending all available points at the start (similar to BG2)
  • longer in development and released as a whole game at a later date without losing the necessary momentum for sales
Problem solved. Obsidian should hire me.

All things being equal, why ask for "sequel DLC" instead of a full-blown sequel? Seems to me that stuff like ToB or MotB is just a fallback option when you know you're not going to get to make a BG3 or an NWN3.

Haha yeah you're pretty much saying "make a sequel." Which they're already planning to do.

I agree the dividing line between the two is a bit hazy, but I think the differences in a full-blown sequel (increased scope, increased costs, time and execution risk, sometimes changes to systems or even engines) means that it's more likely to get cancelled or provide a different sort of experience. Sometimes you just want the game to continue on its current track without waiting for years or a different designer to get the lead.

I bet at the time nobody dreamed that a BG3 wouldn't be made, but it was quick to churn out TOB using mostly the same assets and systems. Even if BG3 had been made it seems it may have felt quite different and followed a different narrative (for better or worse, who knows). I'm pretty glad we got TOB and MOTB given what happened to the genre afterwards.

If it's gonna be anything like IWD atmosphere wise I'll love to play that. Waiting till both expansions are out though.

Roxor being an edgy retard in a PoE thread again, wow that is something new I have never seen before.

Yeah, nothing new there. I don't why this retard gets so much credit here. I wonder how shitty the stuff in his signature must be.

Wait so MotB was supposed to be a standalone sequel? What?
That experience I had which was a thousand times better than OC was only a fraction of the what it could be?
I don't know what's worse, being oblivious to the potential MotB could have or knowing I'll never see it.

On the other hand, storywise I'm not seeing much options for a PoE 2.
How are they going to top off a baby-eating (fake) goddess controlling the course of history?

Palette swapped monsters and copy-pasted areas, cause I can see the same brush stroke repeated over and over again, nevertheless the quality is low. Furthermore, we always shamed developers for their DAY 1 DLCs policy, yet when Obsidian does the same but 8 months down the line; Failtron is the leader in praising the decline.
Oh oh oh

This is going to be PoE's Dragonfall
This is going to be PoE's MOTB

A cool set up for PoE 2 is to go fight the gods themselves, going to crazy locales all over the setting's world. Only to find out that... (plot twist)

I'd like it like this, the gods coalition disintegrates, and they go on a arms-race sucking the Adra dry of souls for weaponry and threatening the survival of everything, you get to pick sides and or/murder all of them, (in hopefully interesting well designed encounters without engagement) and then
trample the memory of the Enigwithains into the ground and spit on their hubris.

It definitely qualifies as day 1 DLC when it's released 8 months later.

The expansion pack was literally part of the kickstarter. That evil obsidian doing what they promised to do!

Oh God, it's like you're incapable of reading between the lines, not surprisingly since you enjoyed Pillows of Eternity: Kill the xaurip.
Also, shilling bot said that before the 2.0 firmware upgrade.

You love the xaurip, take one home to live with you.

This sounds p. good. Not sure if I had that hate for Engwithains, tho haha Anyway, I'd pay huge $$$ to play factions of gods/countries against each other. And a crazy plot twist in the end! Seems like lot of story replayability could be achieved!

Watching the gameplay footage, it does seem like the encounter design is still shit with trashmobs all over the place and that the maps feel as deserted and lifeless as ever...

Reserving my judgement till the the final release, but, frankly, as someone still hoping that Obsidian is capable of getting its shit together and offer a good tactical gameplay to a supposedly tactical game, it doesn't look that good... We'll see.
