Since 3rd edition uses the same clunky alignment system, you could port Planescape to 3rd edition with minor changes. 4th edition, IIRC, changes the alignment system. Which changes could, for all I know, improve the basic gameplay and whatnot, but it also makes a Planescape port harder and possibly pointless. I mean, what to do with the planes and factions that parody or idolize Lawful Evilness in a system that doesn't even have Lawful Evil as a concept? Not much point to it, is there now?

Characters with "lawful evil" ideas still exist, the mechanics are just not relevant to gameplay anymore.

So you could still have factions representing "Lawful Evilness" and "Chaotic Evilness", and they would still be recognizable as representations of different forms of evil; you just wouldn't have the "Ha ha, I geddit - these guys are the personification of the Lawful Evil alignment. Oh D&D, you so silly" moments.

What we found is that all those beings actually did something else. A fan may say 'You removed my sixteen Outer Planes!', and my answer is, which ones do you want? They're all a trickle down to something else. Now when you want to fight demons you go to the demon astral domain.

 :salute:

Yes, sure, such factions could still exist, they just wouldn't represent defining aspects of a clockwork universe. But meta-commentary layers (which are a huge part of Planescape) tend to lose meaning once you remove that which they are built on. Fuck that.

One big attraction of Planescape was that it brought to life the Clockwork Universe idea that D&D had toyed with previously, in a pretty awesome way. Just like Spelljammer was uniquely awesome in it's own, "Hey what if this Ether idea and other wacky 17th&18th century "scientific" ideas were actually real?"

And you could bridge them all together - other settings being the planets and you could se SJ to travel between them if you wanted to stick to Prime Material Plane or if you went plane-walking then you got Planescape. I had GM nightmares/wetdreams back then... never did it though, too bad :/

Don't you guys know that the Blood War has ended ? Asmodeus ate the soul of a lesser god of magic and it gave him the power to teleport the Abyss so far away that the Tanar'ri couldn't find their way back.
No, the war goes strong and Azuth is still alive, serving Mystra. There has been no Spellplague and orcs have not created a kingdom up north, neither has there been a giant earthquake to open a humongous rift into into Underdark. Anauroch is still desert, elves are elves and dragonborn are merely faithful followers of Bahamut. Warforged do not exist, as constructs are called golems and they are not self-aware.

What about the Drow, have half of them joined the Seldarine? :smug:

And the excuse "at least we got rid of some Mary Sues who've been running around the Realms far too long" doesn't work since BOTH Drizzt and Elminster live! 4TH ED IS USELESS! :x :x :x
