(I'll roll for Borric)
Borric's Idea Roll (70) [1d100] = 31
Borric's Sense Roll (57 + 20= 77) [1d100] = 34
Borric's Luck Roll (70): [1d100] = 93)
Borric's innate Barbarian paranoia kicks in and he interprets Cormac's gesticulations as a warning and immediately feels the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Instinctively he tuns in the saddle to look up just as the gryphon dives right for him and his horse.

Gryphon's diving claw attacks (vs 70) [1d100] = 90, [1d100] = 55, damage [4d6] = 17, [4d6] = 16

One of the gryphon's claws is a success. ERYFKRAD roll to parry (weapon skills are capped at 54% = your ride skill) or you can dodge (-50% because you are in the saddle, which equals 51%) If you fail to parry (54%) or dodge (51%) then you take 16 damage minus 1d8+1 (for your armor) and you need to make a ride skill check to see if you stay in the saddle.

The Gryphon slams into Borric and tumbles him from the saddle (Make a jump roll at -25% because you are in armor. Success means you land on your feet, otherwise you are on your back and take 1d6 points of damage (armor doesn't absorb damage from falls)).

Everyone else may take their actions. FYI the horses are all starting to panic since they are not warhorses. Successful ride checks will be needed to keep them under control if you want to fight from the saddle or keep them from bolting and if they take damage they will require another ride check.

In the meantime here is the general lay of the land: You are at the top of the mountain pass just before it starts its steep descent down to the valley floor about 1,000 feet below you. There isn't a ton of room to maneuver, but it's not so cramped that you can't dodge, jockey for position, flank, etc. (The walk-able surface is roughly fan-shaped. The narrow part from whence you came is about 20 yards behind you and the very steep part of the mountain starts about 50 yards down-slope) Most of the ground is slightly sloped at about 5-10 degrees and the ground is rocky and slightly uneven off of the trail which will make riding your horses over it somewhat treacherous (Horses will need agility rolls to avoid turning a hoof and coming up lame if they are ridden over it).

A zoomed out perspective: (west is downslope, east is upslope, rocks indicate treacherous terrain. Each Hex is 10' (3m) wide (1 hex = 1 MV) Remember you can move up to half your MV in a round and still attack (horses MV 12, humans MV 8).

left to right: Rhenmyr, Marcán, Borric (highlighted), Urash, Mab, Ker (hooded figure). All apologies if you don't approve of your character portrait.

Order of combat is as follows:
Gryphon
Rhenmyr
Borric
Ker
Mab
Cormac (out of action because of distance)
Urash
Marcán

Declare your actions (attacking, casting spells, etc.) and I'll resolve them in the order they go -- just remember that fighting from horseback caps your fighting skills to your riding skill and everyone needs a riding skill just to keep the horses under control.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire
Ride(44): [1d100] = 47
Rhenmyr struggles to control his horse.
He'll try to stay in the saddles unless the horse bolts and run's somewhere stupid. Then's He would try to jump off.

Urash regains his composure and rises to a crouching position, holding his horse's reigns tightly.

Do I need to roll anything to be able to the horse's reigns if he bolts?

Also, with the passage of time, how many Power points have been restored?

Ride (44) vs [1d100] = 8
Marcán calms his horse, and then dismounts. He prepares to attack the beast head-on.

Anyway to tell the horse to flee? Aside from pointing it in the direction of where I want to go, and slapping it on it's hind end.

Ker tries to calm his horse
Ride roll (40) [1d100] = 21
then readies his sling.
Can I shoot and calm the horse in the same turn?
Certainly. If you are dismounted however, you will need to keep the horse held in one hand, which would make loading a sling a "difficult" task (halve your skill)

The ride skill, encompasses controlling and riding your mount under duress. If you succeed then you calm the horse. If you fail your ride check then the horse has to pass a Luck roll, or it tries to bolt. At that point you can try to keep a hold of the reins with an opposed STR vs. STR test.

A successful ride check can mean a lot of different things. In this case if you pass your test then you slap the horse's rear-end and it goes in the general direction you want it to, if you fail it bolts but goes in a random direction.

Okay, last question (sorry), Cormac is at the foot of the hill - so if the horse runs far enough Cormac would see it?

The slope is pretty much barren so Cormac will definitely see anything coming down the hill. The most natural way for any animal to run would be on the trail -- all animals tend to pick the path of least resistance unless cornered of forced to do otherwise
