Where the hell came this information that Paradox get 50%? They were handling what? Distribution? Does distribution costs half the project now?

I suspect Steam sales will climb to half a million before it experiences a price drop, then will climb to some middling figure between a million, and then over a million after the price drops to $20, if not before.
A low budget game that sells one million copies is extremely rare. D:OS was in the top 10 on Steam for months, I even saw it on sale once too, yet it still hasn't surpassed 1 million sold copies (and if it did then not by very much).

I mean, PoE could eventually sell one million copies, but it would take quite a long time seeing that it dropped like a rock in the charts.

Divinity stayed at the top as long as it did during that time period for all the usually listed reasons. No competition, WoW graphics, lol-worthy physics, co-op, mega effective marketing with good guy Sven and friends featuring prominently.

Pillars of Eternity can match all of that by being RtWP.

Not to mention all in all Pillars and Divinity are pretty comparable in sales, so far. Divinity took several months before they announced they had hit 500,000 sales.

Where the hell came this information that Paradox get 50%? They were handling what? Distribution? Does distribution costs half the project now?

It's a rhetorical point.

If you want to know the actual rate, you can start by comparing March 31st sales of Cities: Skylines (820,000) and Pillars (230,000, adjusting for backers, which I think were something like 20% at that time) then reckon that both games together made 18.5 million dollars for Paradox. The Paradox CEO noted that they made substantially more from Cities than Pillars of Eternity (having financed its development themselves) ... if we knew their publisher cut from Cities, then we would know how much Pillars money they get.

It will reach 500-600k max by the end of the year, if there's a decent sale in the meantime.

Not necessarily. Its been selling over 3,000-5,000 copies a day for the last 30 days. Keep that up for 45 more days.

It will have two expansions (or rather, one expansion split into two) that should galvanize sales, both of the expansion and the base game.

I just checked Ebay, key resellers are already selling global retail steamkeys for 18 Euros and Russian retail steamkeys (Russian VPN required to activate the game) for 15 Euros. That also might explain why the game dropped like a rock on the Steam charts.

EDIT: But then again, you can also get really cheap Cities: Sylines keys on Ebay too and that game is still in the top 10 on Steam. Hmm, whatever.

No shit. Except for some indie titles.

It is pretty rare for a 42 Euro game to be sold in key shops or on Ebay for only 15 Euros so shortly after release.

Backers could buy PoE keys for cheap, so I bet a lot of keysellers stocked up. They are probably cutting the price now to liquidate their inventory before the Steam summer sale.

You can buy keys from the backer website for $20 usd (in bulk), so if you're selling for above that, then prophet!

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
It's probably at around 400k on all platforms combined.

I think it can reach decent numbers by the end of the year. (It'll probably go on sale at least once, probably during Steam winter sale.)

I'm telling you that its going to be over a million in 1-2 years.

More interesting question is whether 20% of owners will ever beat it. I'd like to think that they can get Deus Ex: Human Revolution numbers.

My completely half-assed unable to backup guess is that as games are out beyond a year or so the completion percentage will actually drop. Idea being that as the game gets cheaper those who buy it on a discount are less invested and might dabble but actually play less than your average first release player.

Considering how shitty the campaign becomes after act 1, lack of completion might be a good thing for the game's reputation.

Yeah, that always happens.

Also a completion rate comparison between DX:HR and Pillars...... Isn't really a comparison at all.
