Actually, the team has an internal line about that. We say, ‘Cover is for Pussies.’
FUCK YEAH. Take that, Nostradumbass :smug:

Wow looks like we can get (1% chance) some normal arcade shooter for once without the "realistic" (as morons put it - especially in games where you can take 100 bullets and still don't die lol) cover system bullshit.

of course, space marines charging into battle is much more realistic :salute:

nevermind the fact that cover just doesn't fit into warhammer. nothing to do with whether it's a good system or not. it's like saying jumping doesn't belong in a realistic fps, and then concluding that jumping is bad in all fps games (like serious sam).

Since we're talking about "realistic" from WH40K viewpoint then yes, it's quite realistic :salute:

Thing is developers wen't bollocks with their cover systems making combat based on it. It would be fine if game was realistic (thus one hit could be fatal) but then again why should you go with 3rd person view. At least make camera move with characters head so covering behind a table wouldn't let you see above it without raising your head.

This game, from all I could see, has the retarded premise of having the main protagonist be near-invincible, running around and whacking thousands of enemies without purpose or thought. It's the epitome of console dumbing down when even in shooters you can just run about and randomly shoot instead of using at least a basic instinct to try and dodge shots and prioritize who you shoot first. Even Serious Sam had this. Even DOOM2 did. This is literally console streamlining incarnated, console kiddies can't shoot fast enough or control their characters properly but they don't want to do a cover system so they make you nigh invincible instead.

Would this game even be noticed by the Codex had they not said that cover systems are for pussies? If it did have cover system it would instantly be called shit and popamole but while it retains the same aspects of consoletard dumbing down but doesn't have a cover system, it could "actually be a good shooter" all of a sudden.

Are you serious? So when a game has no good promise of fun action or complex gameplay, interesting story or at least SOMETHING, it's potentially good as long as the devs say that cover systems are for pussies?
But when a game has all that - the potential for an interesting story and characters, engaging gameplay and decent writing - such as Deus Ex - BUT has a cover system, it's inevitably consoletard shit? With no potential for being good?

Really?

Sounds excellent. Mindless curb-stomping and chainsaw swords can be fun as well. I don't mind a game with a simple premise, so long as it entertains me. And frankly, the novelized space marines are pretty much invincible engines of destruction.

If only it was true. There wasn't a game where you were killing the shit out of big mass of enemies for a loooong time.

I kinda like how SoupNazi bitches about something that arcade shooters so desperately need today - which Relic's shooter most likely won't even have (like masses - due to shitty console hardware)

Art direction looks like a children's game. Nothing like the comics. Where's my GRIMDARK?

So how do we calssify Max Payne? I'm confused :?

Max Payne is unrealistic crap. If you will turn Max Payne to face the wall he will face the wall. This is a big problem.

Games like Gears of War and Mafia 2 are very realistic because when you press the cover button it puts the character on rails behind the invincible table and he regenerates the health. This is very good.

Max Payne is dumbed down. You must run around whacking thousands of enemies and having fun - is bad.

I was so incredibly bad at playing Max Payne 1/2 as a kid, I had to use cheats to get through some of those levels. But those were good games. Not sure how the writing would hold up nowadays, but I'm yet to find a game with a better noir atmosphere.

I played through both a month or two back. The writing is better than most modern shooting games, though that is nothing to write home about.

I went to see the max paine movie in the cinema (i was bored).

It was lulzy seeing all those "serious" nerds being very offended at the excrement going on on screen. I was watching the people more than the movie and man were they pissed.

(i never played the game, and i never will - i can't into shooters except if they are deus ex - i'm trying to purify my karma - porn is a problem though).

I found Max Payne 1 to be more annoying (fucking dream sections! :shake fist:). But then again, I hardly used bullet time outside of diving and my reflexes have always been top notch, so never found either more difficult than the other.

Quote from Giant Bomb preview:
Not surprisingly, Relic is designing Space Marine as a cover-based third-person shooter--but the surprising part is, there's no cover system.

Cover based games are now oficially a new genre! So how do we calssify Max Payne? I'm confused :?
It's okay, it already happened with the Gamespot review for the latest Transformers game.

You're a retard. I can see now why people tried to talk me out of trying to argue with you: you generally don't use logic. Max Payne has challenge and intelligent enemies (for the release date), not being invincible and killing harmless enemies who can't hurt you. The game is good and it's incomparable to this POS dumbed down shooter you're defending.
